Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Hi Team!

I never seem to have time for more than a drive-by greeting and basic info.

Since I am fresh of last week's 5K, I'll let y'all know that I've got a half in 8 days [Seabrook (TX) Half Marathon] and a 25K trail run planned for early April. This way I can make up some of the low miles I supply because of my swimming 3 days a week.

I'll have to remember to zip over to the other thread later to post my times/distances.

Everyone have a good weekend!

Out of control! <- that is the best way to describe this week so far. It's been nuts. Plus I've been viciously fighting off some sickness the past few days (I hope it is not the toxic flu!). I go on vacation in two weeks so it really better not hit me just before I am off!

Jim Oooh, booksfree looks very interesting. I pretty much get all my books from the library, but I do have a friend whose birthday is coming up who loves books so I'll definitely have to look into seeing about a gift subscription or something like that for her.

Maria I've read some (all?) of the Shopoholic series. That's a good one for sure!

Debra That's cool that DOOD made ressies at Ohana for you. It seems like it is shaping up to be a good trip! (Of course, when is a Disney trip not a good trip though? OK, don't answer it I'm sure there are people out there who haven't had good trips. Eeek!)

Nancy Very cool in having your son be your personal trainer! Best thing is that he's free! Well, I'm sure you paid a lot in raising him and stuff, but that's just that much less you'd need to pay a trainer!

For me, my knee is much improving. My friends and I are going out tonight and for the longest time I could not wear any type of shoe with a heel, but I put on a pair of shoes this morning and no knee pain. I think I am tempting fate with a short walk on the treadmill post-work and pre-going out at a 0% incline and maybe around 3.5-4mph just to test it out. If not today, then definitely Sunday as that marks the end of my 6 week hiatus. Oooooh I hope it'll be ok. You know how "they" always say that workouts help people feel better and less depressed and all that - well I think it is definitely true for me. Despite being somewhat active, it is nowhere near the level it was before I got hurt and just lately I've just felt bummed for no real apparent reason sometime and at other times I'm bummed because I just want to get out there already. So I raise a glass and toast everyone a good weekend!

Total drive-by tonight, will catch up tomorrow. I just wanted to let you know that I updated the schedule of our charity events to reflect Nancy's decision to run Race for the Cure in Philly!

Have great times tonight & good days tomorrow, whether the weekend involves LRs, races, rest & recovery, or relaxation with friends & family! :flower3:

DS and I ran the Gates River 15K this morning. It turned out to be a lesson in why you leave early for a race or any event.

For the first time in 20+ years I had a tire blow out. We got the experience of changing the tire on I-95 at 6:00 am since AAA was going to be at least 90 minutes.

The best part of the day was beating DS by 4 minutes. He was talking a little trash on the course so it felt pretty good to take him down.

Jim isn't that the second time you have been him in races this year. Glad you could fix the tire and make it to the race. I would have been sitting there waiting for AAA.

It was just posted the hotel information for the Race for the Cure today and when I called this afternoon, I got the last room at the discount rate. Usually I don't get that lucky.

Did my 6 miles today. It was warm but very rainy so had to do it inside on the TM. I started a Dean Koontz book Funhouse that is very strange. I also bought at Sam's today Judy Picoult new book "Change of Heart". So have some TM reading material.

Hope everyone with injuries and sick start to feel better soon.

Nancy

OK I just posted a huge reply that included everyone on our team and it got sucked into cyberspace.....
Now I dont have time to do it again so just know I have responded to everyone and love you all!:goodvibes

Good evening, Family! I apologize for being missing lately....life has gotten in the way. Nothing bad, I've just been very busy. Unfortunately, my training has also suffered, but what can you do. We were suposed to do a 10-mile walk on Saturday, but the weather was funky and we decided to hold off until Sunday. Well Saturday night we got home late and then we lost the hour.....suffice it to say, our walk didn't happen. Mea culpa......what's done is done - I now have to resolve to get back on schedule. I have a half-marathon is less than 4 weeks, so I need to get cracking.

Hope all is well with everyone......I haven't read all the posts yet, but will try to catch up soon.

Going over to the other post to tally up the miles/minutes......

Hey cousins... I am in total agreement with Life Taking Over. It's been a tough couple of weeks. I am starting to get back on track with training though, just need to stay that way.

So yesterday I was a teacher helper at a knitting class that was all day. Then when I got home I cooked up some dinner and then decided to go to the gym for my run (keep in mind I was exhausted). I hit the TM for 55 minutes (the gym was closing so I did what I could.) I am glad I did it tho because today was a total meltdown at home and there is no way I would have made it.

Nancy: I think it's great that your DS has the knowledge to help you with a personalized weight-training program. Thanks for the kind words about the charity events, too; I was looking for my own push. I'm so glad you got a discounted hotel room, a good sign for the event perhaps? Well, the hotel room & the good workouts are both good signs when taken together.

Finally, I know just what you mean about books--I'm currently on a Scottish noir kick (Ian Rankin's Rebus series is my fave), but they tend to blur together. Still, I love my genre fiction. :thumbsup2 I'm reading Ender's Game next, which I ended up buying, but I've been toying with the idea of reading the Twilight books, too. I think there's a thread on them on the DIS CB. So many new book/book series to try, so impatient waiting for Interlibrary Loan. Jim's suggestion for booksfree is looking tastier & tastier.

Jen: Oh, I'm definitely not coordinated enough to do the body tuck; I recently what looked to be a very fit woman in my gym who fell trying to do a version of this, so I didn't seriously consider giving it a try. I give you credit for attempting it. :thumbsup2 Good job squeezing in some TM time and making sure you got some much-needed YOU time on a busy, exhausting day. I hope this means your knee isn't too achy?

Richard: I enjoy reading about your many events! Good luck with the upcoming 1/2 and the trail run. DOOD wants to try trail run events, so we're hoping to begin some trail running in Frick Park when the weather & trails permit.

Shell: I so hope your weekend, both social times with friends and a little test drive of the knee on the TM, went well. I get anxious and yes, I'd even say depressed, if I don't work out. It really keeps me at the little level of sanity that I've managed to achieve. I can't imagine what 6 weeks must be like for you.

Jim: Too bad about the tire, but :woohoo: for another reality check for the trash-talking DS. (Said with amusement, of course!)

Christa: Don't you just hate it when the Internet vaporizes your post. Oh, right back at you with the love & good vibes! :goodvibes

Jeanne: That's right, keep looking & moving forward! I'm just relieved that it was life's little challenges that interfered and nothing horrible. I always find the time change throws my whole day off, don't you?

Jeanne--about Corrina. She's working on the Godspell show right now, so she might not have a chance to post? :confused3 I don't know about Vanessa, though.

Mel: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. It sounded like a rough weekend.

Robert/Linda: How are the new digs?

LittleMissMickey/Ashley: :welcome: :stitch: Welcome to Ohana! We can be a chatty group, so be sure to tell us all about yourself. Including some nice, dark secrets. :lmao:

Losties: Ben, Ben, Ben. I agree with Nancy--can he get any creepier? It's the dark version of the Bugs Bunny Abominable Snowman: "I'll love her and hug her and call her mine." I'm enjoying it, but I do feel Lost is answering questions I don't really have--more character back stories than Island info or large-group dynamics (although there is some of the latter). Very few of the love stories/love triangles work for me--especially with Jack. All too soap-opera-ish for my taste Desmond/Penny are an exception, though, because I think they've been given a larger context & something at stake.

As for me: We entertained friend from grad school over the weekend--it was great to see him, hang out, and eat some Thai food (a mutual obsession). It looks like he's coming back to Pittsburgh in a couple of weeks, but it might be the weekend we're in WDW. And even though I like him, I don't like him enough to cancel my big b-day trip! He was kind enough to say that he couldn't believe I was turning 40. (Liar. Except for the maturity level, I'm so 40yo. Of course, maybe that's what he meant.)

And good news for my training & the team: His visit didn't interrupt my training, for the most part. I had a couple of shortened sessions & I needed to skip yoga class (the time change more than his visit), but I'm still able to add minutes & miles from this weekend. :upsidedow

On a more serious note. A moment of silence, please. Last night was...the last episode of The Wire, one of the best television crime series ever!

I managed to get in a walk tonight. Running makes me cough  but the walk was good. Hopefully, back at it on Wed.

Welcome back Ashley! Haven't seen you around in awhile! Did you graduate?

Debra...LOVE Thai food!!! Red Curry Beef medium spicy...though we make a pretty nifty chicken version with coconut rice at home. You're welcome to some queso also...homemade...well as homemade as one can be with a giant block of Velveeta ;)

Jen...55 min on the TM after all that? You are HARDCORE! Hope things are settling down for you. Did I miss how quilting weekend went?

Jeanne...you still have time for that 10 miler if you're 4 weeks out. DId I see you mooning the panda somewhere?

Christa...it's the thought that counts :grouphug:

Jim...how was the Gate Run? DOOM is from Jax...he's driven over those bridges several times. Was Hal Higdon there?

Shell...:wizard: to keep you well. I haven't been this sick in a long time. Hope you cruise through without catching anything.

Richard...thanks for the booksfree tip! I think the Easter Bunny is putting that in someone's basket :rolleyes1

Kelley...how's your husband?

Maria...what ya been up to?

Better weeks for all of us!

Passing through....

Just got back from weekend in new condo. Weather was great 71 & 74 each day so able to get out and walk each day. 6.5 & 7.75 miles. Getting the last paperwork done for my surgery. They start growing my new cartilage on Thurs. Only 2 more weekends walking:(

I just hope things go well so recovery can start the long and winding road.

Mel: Glad you are better!

Hope everyone has a great week :thumbsup2

Jim...how was the Gate Run? DOOM is from Jax...he's driven over those bridges several times. Was Hal Higdon there?

This was my first time running The Gate River Run. It is a big event, 15,000 people for a 15K. For $5 extra they do allow race day packet pickup for out of towners which I think is a great idea.

They start and finish right at the Jax Jaguar's Stadium. Unfortnately they did not have enough potties at the start line so the lines where long. We ended up using the bathrooms in the stadium at the last minute. They finished the race inside the stadium which was shown on the jumbotron. They had the second level open so family could watch. DS and I run up to the second level and I found a family bathroom open. I run in and am standing there doing my duty when the door flies open and there stand a female runner looking a little shocked. :scared1: I was in a hurry and did not bother to lock the door because DS was standing outside waiting his turn.

DS had not good answer on why he allowed her to walk in. At least she got a good story to tell her family.

We did the extra paper work and submitted race times so we were seeded in the front of the pack. I think that was a good idea because the course was tight. The course is pretty crowded the whole way. There are lots of corners so you have to pay attention.

The crowd support was great in the neighborhoods.

Saturday was very windy, 25-40 MPH, which affected everyone. Tents at the expo and post race party blew over. I saw a tree branch fall off into the crowd and almost hit some people. The intercoastal waves were splashing across the course so most runners got a little wet. When going over the Green bridge you had to be careful because the wind would knock your feet together and almost trip. Coming down the bridge was to be the easy part of the course, but it was still work fighting the wind.

The post race had beer so I will do this again. The expo was open after the race which was neat. Everyone gets a finishers medal, but the top 10% get a hat. I saw the hats, but did not get one. I would like to do it next year and try for a hat.

Hi Everybody!

I am so far behind, I can't begin to catch up, so I'll just do a little update on me and jump in from here.

I scaled my mileage back on Saturday because we had a birthday party for ds, and my time was limited. Yesterday I did 4.2 miles, so that was good. Today I'll be on the bike for crosstraining. I am so ready for Spring! We have sunshine, but I'd really like a 60 degree day. I guess it will come eventually!

For those that don't know me well -- I am a grants professional with about 15 years of experience. I am a member of the American Association of Grantwriting Professionals. This organization has been working for the last five years or so to create a professional credential specifically for grant professionals, as one did not exist. A professional credential means that in order to earn the credential you must first be qualifed to take a test, then take a psychometric test, which has been created through a rigorous process. The qualification process usually involves submitting an application/resume with your accomplishments and experience as well as references. The certification process was finally ready to go last Fall. I submitted my application in September, and was invited to take the test in November. The test consisted of 4 hours to complete multiple choice questions, and 90 minutes to prepare a written section. It took me about 3 1/4 hours, to do the multiple choice, and 75 minutes for the written part. I was very nervous after I finished, because the test is truly for generalists, and although I have worked in both the private and government arenas, I've been doing strictly government work for the past 7 years. There were many questions where I really was guessing. Anyway, I finally got my results last week, and I passed! Right now, there are 170 credentialed grants professionals nationwide, and I am one of four in New England. So, anyone who sees my designation (potential employer) should feel confident that I can do anything grants-related with excellence.

This was the hardest test I've taken since I defended my thesis to get my Masters, so I am pleased as punch. I don't often have exciting life news to share, so I wanted to let my DIS family know!

It sounds like this was a rough week for most everybody. :grouphug:

Maria :cloud9:

HI Cousins... Last night I took the girls to a Literacy event that we were invited to. Then I got home, rushed to get homework done and kids to bed. Then I sat down exhausted (from the above cross training)... and decided to do some ball work. I did 15 minutes. I worked on my tucks (which I only fell off of once) and some planks on the ball. Yowzers, those are hard too!!! Oh and some crunches.

Maria - That is awesome on your new credentials! WAY TO GO!!!

Jim - Yowzers on the bathroom experience. Kids, eh!!! I bet that lady ran fast so she didn't have to see you during the race!!

Mel - Glad you are feeling better. It took me over a week to get past the croupy coughs. I hate this time of the year!!

Debra - Naw, my knee is taking it well. I fell right on the cap and just bruised it. It hurt but didn't ache, so I knew it would be OK.

Hello everyone and WELCOME, ASHLEY! :welcome:

I've been reading....just don't have time to comment on everything...so sorry :sad1:

A big congrats to Maria on her amazing accomplishment, and to Jim on the great race (don't you love when they serve beer at the end......City of Oaks did that!). I'm glad that Mel is feeling better and Linda and Robert are loving their new digs. I just sent a pm to Vanessa and I called her "Val"....no wonder we haven't heard from her! It's OK, I"m over 50.....it's Altzimers kicking in. A big :thumbsup2 to everyone else......I'm trying to get it together, really I am!

Hi Everyone!

Ok, I'm going to try to catch up as much as I can...Thanks to everyone for all the good wishes. It is a happy time! :yay:

Jeanne -- I understand what you mean! It is hard to keep up, we are an active thread! What a great Team! :lovestruc

Jen -- I'm so proud of you for coming home after your event, putting the kids to bed, and then working out. I know how tempting it is to just go to bed with the Oreos (not that it would ever happen to me  )

Jim -- That was quite the race! Ok, I would be so mentally freaked after the bathroom. You are made of stern stuff! pirate:

Robert -- What wonderful temps and walks! I'm envious! :cool1:

Mel -- I hope you feel like running again. Just please be gentle with yourself!

Debra & Losties -- I almost said Other Losties, but I think that would have been too confusing :confused3 This week is episode 7, and at the end we will know who the Oceanic 6 are (no, I don't know yet). It's a Jin/Sun-centric episode, so that might be a bit telling.... I also read there's a funeral in the episode, but don't know if it's in island time or a flashforward.

Christa -- I feel your love everytime I see your 70+ miles per week!

Nancy -- I'm so excited! I just got an e-mail from the library that the new Anne Rice book is here. I was first on the list, so I'll be reading Christ: the Road to Cana the minute I finish Carrot Cake Murder. I wonder if it's a bad sign that I like murder mysteries that include recipes? :rotfl2:

Shell -- I hope you are feeling better! I finished the Shopoholics, and my next series is by Lori Handeland and involves werewolves. I have about 5 of them waiting until I finish my books I won't be able to renew at the library.

Richard-- Do not apologize for swimming! What fantastic cardio, and much easier on your joints. It's all good! :)

Ashley -- Adding my welcome! Are you a sci fi fan? Are you a reader? Doesn't matter, we're all just a happy bunch!

Corinna and Vanessa -- :wave2: Hope you're hangin' in there!

Ok Team, just a few days until the Ides of March, when our PTA planned a ziti supper. Are we asking for peril among the pasta?!:rolleyes1 This will be followed by Palm Sunday breakfast, which for our church means all the pancakes you can stuff down. I may have to come up with an alternative to carb city weekend! ::yes::

Everybody have a Happy Tuesday!
Maria :cloud9:

Hi All,

I can't believe how fast these threads grow! I'm still trying to figure out who everyone is and every time I log onto the DIS, there are tons of new posts to read!

Ashley - Welcome!

Maria - Congrats on your achievement!

Jim - That's quite a bathroom story. I bet you'll never forget that race!

Mel - Glad to hear you're on the mend.

Jen - I'm so impressed that you have the motivation to work out after having such a busy day. I'm toast once my kids are in bed.

Debra - It sounds like you had a fun weekend!

I hope everyone has a great week. I'm going to try to find the time to read and post more so I can get to know you all a bit better.

Hey buddies!
Just got home... and looking over the posts.

WTG Maria. I am so impressed! :teacher:

Jim - WTG on the race and :rotfl: about the bathroom story!

Welcome Ashley!

Debra - I run to eat...Im not kidd'n

Mel - Glad you are feeling better!

Jen - WTG on getting that WO in!

I did a show today! Had to set the stage, do the show, help take down. If you have ever mover trucks...not real trucks..but they are about as heavy...you will understand why I am counting my stage handness as Xtraining.
Then Fitness camp! OUCH!
Then ran 3 miles with 8.07 MPM!:woohoo: DD7 was on the TM b/side me walking and DD10 was on the eliptical on the other side of me.
Then rehearsal for my show on Sunday...
I am so tired...so going to bed...tomorrow I work at my "real job" from 0930 to 1930ish....I am tired just thinking about it...I will tri to get a WO in on my lunch break.

Christa--- I'm tired from just reading your post.

WELCOME ASHLEY:welcome:

Mel-- You must be feeling better since you are posting again.

Jim-- Enjoyed your Gates River Race Report and was laughing at the BR incident. Since I'm a nurse that wouldn't have bothered me at all.

Maria---A big congratulations to you on passing your certification.   I don't think I have read any of Anne Rice's books but if they are murder mystery I will have to check them out. My gym has a book exchange so have been reading alot of those books lately which has a wide variety of authors so will see if any of her books are there. The book exchanged started out small we are now up to 2 large bookcases. Enjoy reading.

Julie--- I am with you some days this thread moves really fast and I only have time to read but not time to post.

Debra--- Glad you had a fun weekend. I didn't realize you would be going to WDW soon. I'm anxious for Minnie weekend to get here so I can have my Disney fix and meet all my WISH family. Plus the highlight of the weekend will be the dinner at V&A with Jeanne and John to celebrate our anniversaries.

Robert--- The weather is much better at your new Condo than where you were before at least at this time of year. Hope everything goes as planned for your surgery.

So this week is LOST episode 7, I believe they made 8 episodes before the strike. Does anyone know if there will be a pause between episode 8 and when they show the remaining episodes they were doing post strike. I guess Aaron is considered one of the Oceania 6 as we know Kate, Jack, Sayid, Hurley, and Aaron have been shown or did I miss something. I have to read LOST threads some days to pick up some of the things that I miss. I love this show but it does have so many twists and turns that I sometimes get LOST.

So far this week I have been doing well with training, eating is an entirely different story. I'm like Christa I work out to eat, but all that I ate yesterday would take 48 hrs of continous exercise to burn all those calories.

I know that I missed replying to some other posts, sorry about that. However, I hope all those with injuries and illness are doing better.

Nancy

Hey Team - I did it again. Last night I had full intentions of working out while the kids were in swim class. But DD had a little meltdown which made us late, so my workout didn't happen. SOOOOO, when I got home I did a 20 minute video, 22 minutes on TM and then 8 minutes of stretching (really needed that). The video was before DD bedtime, the rest was after t put her to bed. WOWOWOWOW, so proud of myself! DD4 went with dad to a play, so they got home late. That is why my workout at home was easy!

Christa - Your energy and ability to get so much done just amazes me!!!! I struggle with finding enough time!

Maria - Your ziti reference cracked me up!! Why? Well because on Monday I took the girls to that literacy thing at the library, well they served dinner (fazoli's) and DD4 turned the corner and her ziti flew off the plate. The ziti was so greasy and the plate was slick, it just flew off. Poor kid, she thought she would get into so much trouble, but thankfully one of the volunteers saw it happen and cleaned it right up (on carpeting!)
