Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Wow, Family.....as of this very moment we're in the lead!

Great job, everyone! I just discovered that if you look on the bottom of the spreadsheet where all the teams are listed and if you go past Team #8 you can see a summary of all the teams under 2008 Totals. Of course I didn't check to see if all the other teams had posted, but right now we are kicking major butt and I like it!

Onward to a new week!

Just the inspiration I need to do something, anything tomorrow! :woohoo:

I missed my long walk yesterday, so I'm going to do it tomorrow, no matter how long it takes. Heaven knows there's nothing to watch on tv!:happytv:

Sunday I proved to DS that training beats youth!!:rotfl2:

He planned on just hanging with me and then making a sprint at the end to beat me. He has done that in the past so I know to not let the race turn into a sprint for the finish line.

He started out with me and we ran the first 7 miles together at a slower pace then I planned on because of the heat, hills, and beach. At mile 7 it was time to run. He kept up for the first 1/2 mile and then I never saw him.

I wanted to come in under 2:00, but ended up with a 2:12. He finsihed 2:27.

That was not the course for a PR, by Florida standards, but still a nice race. Now have to get ready for 2 races on Saturday. Just a 5K and 10K. Not real thrilled about that, but my folks will be in town and they plan on going to see the race.

WTG, Jim! Let's chalk one up for the old folks! And don't forget....competition miles are doubled for the challenge!

I *tried* to go for a walk yesterday. A very very very much slower walk. I did strap on my knee brace, but it was definitely too soon for going out there and hitting the pavement. It wasn't terrible towards the end, but I was starting to feel the twinge in my knee. I was just soooooo tired of being inside that I had to try. So I got 2 miles for this upcoming week, but that's probably the last of my walking/running miles for the week. Argh. I just need to be better already! Guess I really have to be patient still....... Meanwhile it is almost 60 degrees here today (although overcast) and I would love to be out there, alas I am stuck inside. I think after Days of Our Lives gets over (I like how I can watch it only on days I have off from work and still know exactly what is going on) I will do a DVD. I may not be able to get in miles, but I can get in hours!!!

Three cheers for Presidents' Day => it gets me a day off!

Hi everyone... Wanted to pop in and say HEY! Saturday morning I got up and hit the TM for 50 minutes before we headed to Green Bay. We parked at Lambeau Field (GO PACKERS) and walked in. As we were walking, it happened to be over the Finish Line of my PR 1/2 marathon last year. DH had to point that out. Then DD7 and I did the Rocky run up the stairs. The kids had a blast at the Family event. We then hiked it over to the ice arena for some Disney on Ice. Didn't tell the girls about it so they freaked out when we walked in.

HS Musical on Ice was fun. The narrator had a really annoying voice tho. OH and talk about a rip off, the souveniers were outrageously priced. $35 for a child sized t-shirt. So we got popcorn and 2 drinks... $30. WHAT. I was outraged. I am sending a complaint their way since they had little customer feedback cards laying all over!!! Since they asked, I will tell. I couldn't believe the highway robbery, my ticket was only $22!!

DD7 was in heaven and loved the whole thing, so did DD4. I still don't care for HSM2 much, then song and plot just don't get me.

Soooo, Sunday I didn't do anything but clean. We were hit with another major snowstorm. We are hitting records with the snowfall this year. It is crazy. And under the snow this time was ice, so it was treacherous. My parents got 12+ inches, we got 8-ish. I seriously don't know when I will be able to run outside again. There is so much snow and ice, it's just plain dangerous. And I am getting cabin fever!!!

Jim - Way to beat the kid!!!!

Debra - Love the DH name... mine is a DOOP! I guess that is better than a poop!!!

OK, gotta get back to work. It's still snowing outside in case you were wondering!

Shell: take it easy with the knee....don't rush things or you will end up worse than before. Don't worry about the team mileage....we got you covered! Everyone else is assigned to do a little bit more this week to pick up the slack. (sorry, only kidding!) Just take care of yourself and get better.

Jen: what a nice surprise for your kids! I hate it when places jack up the prices like that....it's so unfair to parents because there will always be some folks who buy their kids everything and everyone else ends up looking like a smuck. Grrrrr....... Gotta admit, I don't know much about HSM....my kids are much older than that.

Hey guys! I am so proud of us. We are doing so great on the miles and minutes.

Shell - I also agree that you need to be careful. Dont worry about the miles. You will be out there again in no time. I do understan your frustration though.

Jen - So great that you took your children to HSM. It is so frustrating how expensive everything is....:headache: WTG on getting those WOs in even with the snow.

Jim - :rotfl: WTG on the win....I love it when that happens...

I have a funny story too...
Sat, I was running on my trails (like I own them  ) and was near the end of my run (I did around 13 something in all that day). I heard someone coming up behind me. Then I was passed by this collage age looking boy. He passed then ran right in front of me for about another 1/2 mile. He then stopped and acted like he was stretching. He looked like he was going to pass out...you know the breathing hard, sweating, pale look. I just passed on by, smiled and waved. I think what happened was he passed me then did not want me to pass him back (b/c I am a girl and much older). So he was sprinting while I was running at my happy pace....then he stopped and acted like he was finished (in the middle of nowhere on the trail) to save face.:rotfl: But I could have read it wrong...:confused3

As for me....DDs are out today and DH took a 1/2 day. So I was going to get in a few miles when DD10 asks if she can go run with me. So b/c I am a great mom...I think, "if I take her, My WO will be short and slower than I want....but on the other side, she is asking and she could one day be a running partner"...So I take her. We had lots of fun. She did 3.2 in 40 min. We both had a great time and got to have some mommy/DD10 time. So it was the best WO EVER! And she is so proud that she did a "5k"...I know a 5k is 3.11 and she ran 3.2..so she went over the 5k. But she cannot understand it waas longer.....

Sorry so long......

Richard: Yea! Another mention, and I assume vote, for me reading the Ender series! We're glad to see you here and doubly glad you're keeping up with your workouts. Of course they're more important!

Definitely a vote for reading the series!!

Way to go everyone in keeping up with the workouts!!!

I have a funny story too...

Since I am older, rounder and slower than most others out there I have no problems getting passed by anybody (for the most part anyway). I do however, enjoy the reactions I can get when I pass someone younger and skinnier!

Hey Hey to the greatest team ever!!! So proud of myself tonight. DH went to spinning class, so I went out and shoveled for 40 minutes (we have a snowblower, but I did it the manual way!). Then after I put the girls to bed I did another 20 minutes of Walk Fit DVD and 10 minutes of ball work. ROCK ON!!! So very proud of myself. So I didn't get in a run but I did a lot of good XTing!!

Christa - Way to run with DD. I am planning on doing more r/w's with my DD7 this summer. After all this snow melts. We did some 1 miles ones last year, but she really wants to run a 5K. Problem is that she has no clue how long a 5K is!

Shell - Baby that knee and you will come back much stronger (and quicker!).

So, we have a DOOD, a DOOC (Duke?), a DOOM1 and DOOM2, and a DOOP. DOOD will feel so relieved to know he didn't get the shortest end of the stick on this one! :lmao:

Mel: DOOD and I will be doing the Disney marathon in 2009. And we also committed to the Cleveland races in May (1/2 for me, full for him). I'm still trying to talk him into a fall Disney race. Yeah, I freelance but it's mostly academic work. That's my background, wordy academese; research and minimal writing and editing at this point. I'm trying to break the ivory-tower habit, or at least to expand my interests, so thanks for the heads-up on HerSports.

Maria: I hope you and your household are feeling better. That's it--no more illnesses for anyone! :wizard: Good luck with your busy season & deadlines. Everything was due yesterday, right?

Jim: You rock with the races. And there's nothing like being able to win a little family-friend competition, in racing conditions, to make DS appreciate the wisdom that comes with age, huh?

Shell: Ouch! You take it easy on that knee, and give it time to heal. (Yeah, yeah, I know, do as I say not as I do...:rolleyes1) But we don't want you to be sidelined for a long time, so watch Days of Our Lives & tell us all about it!

Jen: HSM on Ice sounds like fun, if potentially painful to the pocketbook. I love your description on the Rocky Run, but am hoping your weather clears up soon so that you can get outside for a substantial amount of time. It sounds as if you need the mood elevation that only a week of sunny, relatively warm days can bring. You've certainly had enough of the other in WI. I have to give you kudos for choosing to shovel snow, though; that's dedication to the team!

Christa: Ooooh, Christa, your story. Age & beauty before college-aged bravado. You score DOUBLE! And you just tell your DD that she runs a 5K faster than I do. I should be embarrassed about that, but I'm just happy for her!

Richard: As the team's tortoise, I'm fairly sure you would/will pass me on the course. Oh, and have you noticed that there are those times when you don't mind being passed by others, at least for the "scenery"? Hey, that's how I keep myself amused! ;) Ender series it is!

As for me: Sunday's yoga class went well, and we'll be going back. It left DOOD and I a bit sore, which we take as a good sign. My knee is better, nothing like Shell's situation, and I'll adjust my training schedule to incorporate the yoga and dump the stuff that (I think) is aggravating my knee.

Today, I ran the next part of my C25K program, and attached a short 3/2 R/W on it to finish out my training program for Cleveland. It was slow and easy, but then again so am I. (Go ahead, say something, I dare you!) I'm donating those miles and minutes to Lily, and will post that info on the Running for Lily thread as soon as I finish here. You'll be glad to hear I also did XT for us (well, for me, but it goes to our team). :goodvibes

Oh Yah Debra... I am so dedicated now. If it weren't for this challenge, I would be sitting on the couch crying because of all the snow and cold. We are below zero AGAIN today!!

So here is how the snow shoveling went last night. DH decided to go to Spin Class, so I say "I'm going to shovel snow"... DOOP says "No, I can snow blow when I get home"... I say, "no I can shovel. It's OK"... DOOP says "No really, just wait until I get home"... I SCREAM "NO I WANT TO SHOVEL". End of story. I shoveled while the girls watched Disney Channel!

So I got in 70 minutes last night and dern proud! Tonight is a no go. I have a meeting at 5:00, then rush to another meeting at 6:30. Then rush home to get the kids to bed (I will meet up with them at the 6:30 meeting). Hmmmm, that all sounds like XTing to me!

I know I should be resting but I HATE being stuck inside. boo hoo hoo. I just wanted to try, although I realize now that it was probably too soon. Woe is me. The DVD business didn't work out so well yesterday either. I was doing my stability ball DVD and I did modified stuff when it came to lunges and all that but eventually it got to be too much (while I was doing the ab part of it, go figure) and so it was a 30min. outing for that. Where's my magic wand to declare me healed??? :wizard:

Jen: That's really funny about arguing over the snow shoveling! Who would really think of anyone willingly volunteering?! :)

Christa: He was totally faking. haha! Good job on showing him who's boss! heh.

Sorry team that I have just not had time to post for several days. I do try to read the thread every day, but posting is a different story. I have been doing my training. After Pilates yesterday my right hip flexor felt so good. It has been tight for weeks and even with stretching I could not get it loosened, but something at Pilates last night really helped it. Now will see how it is after pump class tonight.

Pixie dust to those of you with injuries. Take care of yourselves. The challenge is for months so don't try to get in workouts when you should be resting.

Good job to everyone on their training. Jim congratulations on your half marathon.

Time to get into my workout clothes and head to the gym.

Nancy

Ooops, guys, sometimes having 2 threads can be confusing. I responded to something Debra wrote this morning and thought it was strange that no one commented. Then I checked and realized it was on the "miles/hours" thread and most only go there once a week. So I copied the link:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23295234&postcount=59

Let me know what you think!

Man, my head is spinning! We were traveling over the weekend, so crazy times keeping up. I got my 6 mile run in Florida, though which was a nice change from Icy Freezing Cold. :goodvibes I had been looking forward to that run for months, I tell you. I did miss my shortie 2 mile yesterday due to ugh -travel home. I got up that morning and just really wanted to throw on my gear and do that two miles running to the beach and back. But packing up to go prevailed, unfortunately.

I guess I have a DOOC as well, but I think I'd rather call him my CASH (Corinna's Amazingly Supportive Husband)

Jen - I have been seeing and hearing commercials for that 3-day for weeks now. I'm not sure I'm up for it this year, but WOW, wouldn't the double miles for that ROCK this challenge, if you and I both did that 3 day! Are you thinking of doing it?

Christa: Of COURSE you own those trails!

I've got a meeting tonight, so I'd better wrap this up. Go Ohana!

Hello...Helllllloooooo! Anyone here? Where is everyone? Noone has posted today so what is going on?

jeanneg - I will give miles to Lily....But I feel like I need to give the hardest thing I do to her...I am sorry, but that is not running or biking. It is SWIMMING! I can give the Monday miles to her, but, to me, that would not mean as much. What she is going through is hard. For me, running (even hi miles) is not that hard most of the time....the problem is that swimming will only give yards. But with all that said, I am a team player and I am willing to give whatever the team wants to do. So if all agree on monday...I will do that....I could even swim on Monday.

Shell - I totalllllly HATE resting too. I always want to get out there and move...I am like my dog (she is a JRT) and if she does not run, she starts going crazy.:lmao:

Question....Does anyone have any of the "Skirt Sports" Skirts? I have and LOVE the marathon girl. In fact I ran my last marathon in it and it was WONDERFUL. Now to the question....I am getting ready to buy a bike skirt from "Skirt Sports". My sister has the relaxed fit bike skirt and loves it. But the compression bike skirt is cheaper. Does anyone have that kind? and do you like it? Hate it...know nothing about it? What about the Jersey?

So here is how the snow shoveling went last night. DH decided to go to Spin Class, so I say "I'm going to shovel snow"... DOOP says "No, I can snow blow when I get home"... I say, "no I can shovel. It's OK"... DOOP says "No really, just wait until I get home"... I SCREAM "NO I WANT TO SHOVEL". End of story. I shoveled while the girls watched Disney Channel!
Jen -   Too funny!

Also - Anyone here done a 50k? Just think of the miles we could rack up on that....Does a Century ride count double? It is a supported event....that will be 200 points ......I am doing the MS ride again in September I think.

Gotta go....Will have to catch up more later tonight when I get home.

Christa - I am still on the hook about a skirt, really want one but afraid the under shorts won't stay in place. As for the miles, I think it is great that you give the hardest miles. If that makes you feel the best, then by all means do it.

Speaking of giving miles... I haven't had time to check all threads, but do we still track them for ourselves and Lily, or just Lily??

So the snow stopped but now we have bitter cold again. It is going to drop to -17 tonight (that is WITHOUT the windchill). My girls gave me heck this morning when I made them wear tights with their skirts and then pants over top. I told then the pants were just for getting to school, they could take them off when they got their. This is some of the worst cold and snow weather we have had in a long time. My motivation is in the toilet lately because of it!!!

OHHHH... but we were able to apply an AP rate to our Minnie reservation. Didn't save too much but any little counts!!!

Good Evening!

I knew I missed one of my threads earlier today -- mea culpa. :guilty:

Ok, just off the stationary bike -- I did 10 miles in 37 minutes, which probably sounds like a casual stroll along the boardwalk to Christa, but was haulin' for me:rotfl:

I did 4.5 miles on the TM yesterday, which was also movin'. I'm hoping to end up with more miles than my first week, after another TM and bike workout.

Jen -- You must be like a popsicle! :cold: Good job making those little ones stay warm. DS would go out in a t-shirt year-round if I let him :confused3

Christa -- I love it when you post, you are keeping us humble. What a great inspiration you are -- I wanna be like Christa!:yay:

Corinna -- It sounds like you had a great trip. So glad you got a little sunshine! :beach:

Jeanne -- I didn't have any miles Monday, can I give Lily a different day, or is it symbolic that it was Monday? :upsidedow

Nancy -- Now you've outed my dirty little secret -- I too read most days, but only post when I have time. It's ok, I think they'll let us stay in the club...:flower3:

Shell -- Your spirit is willing, and the body will follow. Be patient, grasshopper...:snail:

Debra -- Actually, my deadlines have yet to come. Some have not even been announced yet. Such is the joy of dealing with government beaurocracy. No one wants to make any decisions at the federal level because of the new administration, so I anticipate alot of wait then hurry up. Still, I'd rather do my job than work in the private sector of development. I'm much better following directions and writing virtual tomes than glad handing...:sad2:

Tiberius -- YOu are doing us all proud!:thumbsup2

Go Team Ohana!
Maria:cool1:

Jen: 70 minutes of shoveling! Yowza! What must DOOP think of you and this challenge? Maybe he'll be thinking of other household chores that could count for XT? That's what I would do, anyway, in his position. He actually sounds much nicer than I am. :lmao: Congrats on the AP discount, too! Hopefully knowing you have this trip coming up will help get you through what sounds to be a miserable WI winter.

I also don't know quite how the donation of miles to Lily works; I just assumed I'd take them off my total for the week.

Shell: How frustrating for you! The same thing happens to me, btw--my knee acts up more during core work than at any other time. Stay strong in your determination to rest, recover, and heal!

Nancy: I'm so glad that Pilates seems to be helping your hip tightness. I hope that you're over the worst of it.

Corrina: Mmm, running in the warm Florida sun sounds soooo good. :goodvibes Does CASH run with you?

Christa: I so think you should donate the swimming miles to Lily, for the reasons you list here. That's the kind of thoughtfulness that I would appreciate and, although I don't know her as well as many of you, think Lily would too. DOOD wants to do a 50K eventually; it's finding the time for training that's slowing him down. And wow, a Century ride? I'd think it would count--I'm sure the Panda will drop in here soon & give us a ruling to go with his razzing! :rolleyes1

Maria: Ooops. Sorry about the confusion--I was joking about the "due yesterday" deadline, thinking I was being clever. (Note to self: always use smilies when talking to folks who have REAL deadlines approaching! ;) ) Anyway, your pacing/deadlines sounds a lot like what my brother describes; he works for the Census Bureau, which is somewhat immune from administrative turnover, but deadlines/decisions still drive him crazy. And yea! You're putting in some solid miles this week--and feeling good about the WOs, I'm sure. :cool1:

As for me: Another C25K + R/W and XT today. The knee is much better than a week ago, but still a bit of a bother. I'm trying to get my SparkPeople Pittsburgh Team to get interested in some local events, but they're not very active over there. It'd just be nice to have a local cohort for short races, you know?

The BIG news, though, is that DOOD is taking me on a not-so-surprise surprise trip to WDW to celebrate my 40th b-day! He decided to tell me so that I didn't make plans for that weekend. We're doing a short 4-day trip, but it means the world to me. He's making all the ressies, asking me if there's anything special I want to do, and just being an all-around great guy. He knew I was a little let-down after the marathon trip. (Not because it wasn't a fabulous time in many ways, as it was. But we took his parents along and they'd not really done Disney, so our trip because a kind of "highlights" tour and focused on what they could handle.) So this is his gift to me. I'm very lucky he's a part of my life.

Also - Anyone here done a 50k? Just think of the miles we could rack up on that....Does a Century ride count double? It is a supported event....that will be 200 points ......I am doing the MS ride again in September I think.

Gotta go....Will have to catch up more later tonight when I get home.

I have not done a 50K yet, but I'm considering a 50K trail run in March.

My only concern is distance training. Since I did not run the full Breast Cancer marathon last week, my last long run was the Goofy.

Any thoughts if that is enough or if I should get a good long run in before the 50K?
