I'm hoping there are some DISers who teach in Wisconsin that can help me out. I have taught in Illinois for most of the past 24 years. I have an LBSII (Special Education) Master's Degree from the U of I and live in central Illinois. In the next few years I am considering moving back "home" to northern Illinois or Wisconsin. I was curious what the Teachers Retirement System was like in Wisconsin; the one in Illinois is always "iffy" at best. Also, do you have any idea how difficult the process would be to become licensed in WI after coming from IL?

I'm licensed in Wisconsin and Michigan. If I were you I would call the teacher licensing directly because their website is tricky and there are a lot of rules. I was stupid and let my WI license lapse when I moved to MI and to get it reinstated would require a lot of hoop jumping.

The retirement system is still pretty decent (at least for the moment) but it does go by a complicated formula unlike MI where basically you are vested after ten years. I am working a job that pays into it now and I hope and pray it will be there for me when I'm ready to retire.

I can't post links from my fire but if you Google teacher certification Wisconsin and wrs you should find what you need.

Good luck!

Terri
