i had taken a Disney themed class at a local scrapbook store and was sorely disappointed in the content-- basically--the instructor passed around her not all that exciting album she had done MANY years ago, and just described products available etc. We did ONE basic Pooh paper piecing and that was it. I was glad I didn't paid the $12 for the class (had a free coupon). ANYWAY, I am very good friends with the owner of a competitor store and she has talked me into doing a Disney themed class at her store. After my previous experience i know what NOT to do, but now I am looking for what you might expect from a class on Disney scrapbooking. I was considering the following :1) how to use what you already own in your collection to create Disney themed pages (without buying Disney specific products) -- e.g. basic circle punches, eyelets etc. 2) a BRIEF overview of Disney themed products available 3) SEVERAL mini projects (not completeing one page or a two page spread, but completeing several embellishments that you can take with you to use on your pages) what I had in mind: a TAG (or set of tags) of some sort, a BORDER, and a PHOTO MAT or Journaling Block using fibers, eyelets or nailheads etc. What do you think---is it something you might attend?????

Renee,
I think that sounds great. I am still trying to organize all of my Disney stuff to get a scrapbook together. ONE DAY!!
I like the idea of smaller items to use in a larger presentation.
Best of luck!

I think that sounds great! By doing several small things, the attendees could complete different pages by adding their own touches instead of one complete page that may not be their own style. I think people are interested in finding out how to apply the hot new trends (eyelets, tags, fibers, wire, etc.) to their Disney scrapbooks (I would go, for sure!).

How about a page I did.....

Using your circle cutter you cut a 4 inch circle in the bottom corner of one page, then add two smaller circles for Mickeys ears. When the page is flopped back and forth it reveals the pics from the page before and the page after. You have to make certain to line up journaling or pictures with your cut. So do the cut out first!

Also I have seen this done,

Using a strait edge cutter a banner at the top of the page. On the page on the left," When you wish " then flip your cut out page, on on the page on the right put "Upon a Star". Does this make sense, the page with the cut out is in the middle of the two pages with words. You need to line up the words inside your cut out.

no matter which way you are looking at the two sets of pages you will see the entire message, When you wish upon a star.....its awesome!!! Add tink and a castle Voila!!! too cool!

have fun and good luck!!

I have been teaching a Disney class at my LSS for quite some time now. I have had only great feedback. The class makes 8 different page elements such as borders, toppers, journaling boxes. Each could be used for a number of different rides or areas of the parks. Prior to the class, I do a little pretend shopping trip and gather up non Disney items from the store that could be used in a Disney album. I give them ideas of what they could use them for.
I try to use a variety of papers and simple techniques. This is the first album for many of the people in my classes. They have not even experienced many of the basic techniques. We work with mulberry paper, paper tearing and a bit of chalking. I also teach them little scrapping tricks like how to use fonts in their albums.

I have been asked by many of my students to have a Disney II class and do less elements but more complicated elements. I really enjoy teaching my scrapping classes. The prep work is very time consuming and eats into my own personal scrapping but it is so worth it to be able to pass it on to others.

I have the Memories of the Mouse Embellishemnt Kit (www.cropalong.com) and would LOVE to go to a class to find out what to do with all of it! LOL!!
One idea I've thought of is to take a lafger size eyelet and 2 smaller ones to make a Mickey head instead of just one eyelet at the top of a journaling square. Does that make sense?

thanks--these are some great ideas! I had thought about the one large/2 small eyelets (or even mini brads with a regular sized one) to make mickeys on either journaling blocks/photo mats etc. I think one thing I was planning re: the tag idea was to use some assorted buttons and jute to make mickey and minnie . I also love the "window" type page ideas with the titles or mickey heads. I have never done a window page, but a good friend of mine did in her Husbands 40th birthday album. it came out really cute! I will let you know what I come up with. the class is in April, but I will be hitting my LSS this weekend to pick out papers etc. for the projects (and also to pick up my Disney scrapbook swaps!!--the store did a Disney themed swap this month and rather than the normal swap of assigning different types of embesslishments such as tags, borders, photomats etc., they assigned disney characters and you could create anything that corresponded with the character--I had cinderella, and did a set of 3 tags --a crown, a slipper and one that said "A dream is a wish your heart makes"--they came out REALLY cute! I cant wait to see what other things people made!!)

I'm working on a Disney album right now. I have done some in the past and stayed with the whole Disney theme, colors, stickers, embellishments, etc. This time however I wanted the album to have more of an adult only feel since it was of my trip with my Husband for our anniversary.

It's sometimes difficult finding ideas for Disney albums that don't want to follow the typical Disney theme. Perhaps you could include a little something in your class that touches on that.

The solution I came up with for my album, was to scrap in my usual style...but add "Hidden Mickeys" on every layout. Either with eyelets, drawing Mickey ears hidden in the title, border, arranging photos to shape Mickey ears, or any other way I find to add the Disney touch without overpowering my pages with the typical Disney theme.

:D

And all the ones that everyone else has been to.

I wonder if CKU will do a Disney class?

With all the trips we make to Disney it is hard to keep our albums from becomming stale...O.K...my albums!

You all have wonderful ideas!!!!! Thanks for sharing your pages and inspiring the rest of us.

Don't forget about a few pocket pages for all those park phamphlets.

Another possible inclusion would be to talk about how to pick up on the elements that aren't traditionally Disney - meaning the castle and characters. For instance, when I did a layout on Typhoon Lagoon I used a water theme; wavy edge of a CM ruler/template which I then ran the letters along and used some really big splash and water drop stickers. Then just did a really narrow mat behind the photos to enhance the colors.

It was one of those pages that just sort of grew out of itself but really sparked, in me at least, the idea that you can do Disney in different ways.

Another one that stood out was from our last cruise - we had dinner at Lumiere's on Valentine's Day so instead of the typical Beauty and the Beast theme that might have been used I followed a Valentine's theme. Hearts as partial matting to photos and on one 5x7 family photo at dinner I took a heart & scroll punch - one of the longer border types - and actually punched out the edge of the photo. Yes, I am one of those folks who will actually punch borders and corners on photos. I figure I have the negatives and if I really don't like the results I can reprint. ;)

Have fun with the class!

Renee,

Hi there!

I just took a Disney SB class this past weekend. We did several projects. One of them was two tags with smaller paper squares on them that had mickeys made out eyelets. Not sure what sizes we used. I can check the instructions sheets we got.

We did some nice things I will try to get some online to show them.

Chessie,
Where about are you in Maryland? I am from Maryland as well. I have several friends who are into Disney Scrapbooking and if you are not too far away I am sure we would love to come to one of your classes. I am always looking for new ideas.

I just went to my first disney sb class last night and we completed 4 pages. It was great because my brain is blocked for ideas. We used different elements for the pages too - one page we did a "fold out" castle, another did using chalk and making a split page (2 pages using the chalked item as the centerfold) and then another using two different papers and some stickers. It was pretty good I thought and I'm excited to go to the next class. I think she has classes once a month.
