Teachers...

Ok teachers can someone give me an opinion on these gifts:

1. I know that many have said they don't like soaps and lotions, etc. But, what I usually buy is the anti-bacterial kind at Bath and Body. I also thought of that as the useful type of gift. I get the kitchen scents. Is that OK?

2. I was going to make some gift baskets with: fleece blankets, hot chocolate mix, and Christmas cookies. Sound OK?

3. The movie gift baskets several have mentioned - pop corn, block buster gift certificates, and some movie candy.

1. I love Bath & Body Works stuff but really do get enough of it.

2. These gift baskets sound great. I would just leave out homemade cookies. I personally do not eat homemade goodies unless its from a mom I personally know. Homemade goodies end up in the teachers' lounge for the night custodians.

3. The movie gift basket sounds great too!!

Your children's teachers should be very appreciative!

I think what they meant was don't get anything that you wouldn't want yourself. Teachers are just people after all. I went with a book store gift card and I love the starbucks idea for the middle school teachers- we never do that...I may have to stop and get some today (and perhaps a venti mocha frap for myself!) :rotfl2:

Would you fee better about the homemade food if they came from a Chef. We always do a gift baskets of treats for the teachers. Usually something like a coffe cake, muffins, bread, cookies, fudge and a gift certificate to Tim Hortons. I always write a note and tell them to sleep in the next morning and enjoy breakfast on us!!! Dh makes the big item and the fudge at work and I make the cookies. My children go to a small rural school and we really get to know the teachers well so I hope they enjoy the treats and not give them away!!

Do you buy for the school support staff (Libarian, secretary, principal, janitor staff, etc...) I never know what to do for these people, without a doubt they are very important part of our childrens education. However I always have a hard time finding the apropriate thing for these people.

If you would like to include the support staff and everything you could send some kind of food treat to the teacher's lounge. I know in the schools I work in they always love treats in there and the support staff usually goes in there also. Bagels and/or donuts in the morning are a big hit around here.

About homemade treats. If you are in a small rural school and they know you they will probably eat them. In bigger schools or a poorer school like I work in sometimes teachers are a little nervous about homemade treats. Not to sound like a snob (I sometimes eat them) about the poorer schools but if the child is not clean the kitchen probably isn't. So the kids don't get hurt we usually say I'll put it on my desk for an afterschool snack. That way if it is someone you are nervous about or something you don't like they don't wonder why you ate the other kids right away and not theirs. I always make sure that it goes out in the garbage that night. Nothing would be worse than for them to see it sitting there the next day on your desk or in the garbage in the room.
