When filling out a manual attendance (the old school squibbs type) do you skip pages between your classes so that you don't have to re-write all of the names every 3 months? In school we only used computer attendance.

I do, although invariably I have students come in and out and I end up rewriting them anyway so everyone is in alphabetical order.

I did. It makes it easy to flip through the year for a particular class and look at grades and notes and see student and class progress.

How many pages do you skip? I've been skipping one. It is for student teaching which is 15 weeks, but they are starting a new marking period on Monday. Also, do you need to it alphabetical. I have not been doing that. I"ve been copying the names in the order of the attendance book.

My former CT used graph paper and created her own squibbs style.

IIRC, she did skip pages.

I only used computerized attenance as well.

I have the first two periods done with one page skipped between them. Before I add any more classes should I tear the second group out and skip more then one page? Would this be bad to do since the pages are numbered?

Depending on the semester - I skip enough pages so that I don't have to rewrite any names - I also keep track on other paper for 2 weeks so that I don't have to cross out any names once I get them looking nice!

BTW - I am not loving my CT placement. He is very regimented, doesn't want to release his class at all and when he does he is expecting me to do exactly what he does. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. FWIW his students mostly love him and do well so he's doing something right.

What does you CT want you to do?

I never realized that the pages were numbered.

I made a mistake once in my CT "old school" grade book, she wound up ripping it out and redoing on her own.

wow, I didn't know that anyone still wrote out gradebooks and attendance records. I do planbook and gradebook on the computer.

Been there done that!

My CT doesn't want me to use his computerized program. He won't give me access to it.
What he does is students fill out work packet day one, day two is lecture and note taking from notes on overhead. Day three is another workpacket.... At the end of the unit is a movie and review packet, then class review. All worksheets and notes are numbered and coordinate to matching numbers in review packet and on tests. The final will include a study guide that fits with all the numbered earlier work. I will be leaving when the students still have 2 1/2 months left and he wants them on that same page when I leave so he can jump right in and give them the same file with the same review packet.

What did you do? My supervisor said to do whatever he wants and I agree as it is his house his rules. I'm a guest. However, it is difficult as I am supposed to be doing certain things when I"m being observed. They have told me to do what he likes and then differentiate what I'd do differently in my plans.

I do attendance on a grid I designed myself. It's on paper so if a student asks how many days they have missed I don't have to log on. Grades are on computer, but at the end of the quarter I print them out and staple them in my gradebook for a hardcopy. I save all my old gradebooks--VERY weird.

Well, he is organized.... That is either some OCD going on or just a control freak-- take your pick.

I thought my student teaching placement was hell! You can't differentiate for that at all! I take that back, you have to be very creative with it. I guess you could give kids some vocab or concept flashcards (very quietly on the side) and tell them to review them at home.

Can you make a game out of the review packet?

I never had access either on the computerized system. I made my own sheets in Excel and did it that way.

My university supervisor preferred that over the old school books.

I'm doing my first class tomorrow. I"ve put the notes into a powerpoint presentation where I inserted pics and a short video clip. I"m hoping that this goes well. Also I haven't had US history since I first went to college long ago. I"m trying to brush up on the content but don't have near his knowledge. I need something like powerpoint to organize my thoughts.

You do exactly that. In your pre or post observation conference state what you would have done differently. If there is a spot on your written plans to do so, write it out (I made a Differentiated Instruction section). Sneak some things in and say that the supervisor needs to see it. I snuck a lot of differentiation in by doing all types of activities.

CT hates DI but he doesn't realize he does alot of it naturally. He is a good teacher. Just not a good choice to place a student teacher with. He really really doesn't want to release control and I"m a week behind everybody getting started. Alot of them were given more then one period the second week.

It will get done I promise. I was a week behind as well. My CT didn't want to give up control either.

You do what you can. The idea of a Powerpoint sounds good. I wouldn't worry about the content THAT MUCH, after all he is the veteran teacher and you are not.

I'm also working on a blog. I am hoping that these two things together will meet my technology requirement.
