Teachers or grade-school parents

thanks for the sites, everyone..DD could always use help in math and some of these seem really fun.

keeping up over the summer has always been a priority for us - we never know when our DD will make that "leap" where she just "gets" it - always feels good when that happens...luckily, our school sends home a packet every summer (glad I know now as I went out and bought books last year - ah well, can never be too prepared I guess)...even with those packets, these sites are a great resource!!! :sunny:

Thanks everyone. These are great! I will be busy reviewing all the sites!

I have seen some of these sites but you guys have really given me many more!

I was planning on having both boys (8 & 6) keep a journal over the summer. I think they might actually like that!

As for letting him "slide"...believe me, he will enjoy the summer. He is a very bright boy who has had some "motivation" issues. I let it go last summer and felt like he really had to play catch up this September. He is a voracious reader so I don't worry much about his reading/language skills, but He has convinced himself that he "doesn't like math" so he tends to avoid it. I am trying to make math more fun for him 'cause he genuinely gets the concepts, he just has decided he doesn't enjoy it. He scores well on his tests so far, but it is like torture to get him to do homework etc that involve math. Soooo, we'll be working on that over the summer so that we start 3rd grade more positively (I Hope!)

Believe me, if I wanted to torture him over the summer, I could sign him up for our town's every day summer enrichment programs!!!! ;) He would disown me!

Also, I love the idea of him giving me a test!!! He would love that! :thumbsup2

vettechick...As a side note, and just an observation, but I'm a little surprised to see the abbreviation for the words SPecial EDucation. When I was in school, the word "sped" was derogatory slang used to tease those in the special education program. Now, as a mom of a special needs child, it still bugs me to see this word or abbreviation.

Sorry, I just saw this note. Here it's not derogatory at all. In fact, in SEMS (our IEP software) Special Education is abbreviated SPED (SPED class, SPED teacher, etc).

Unfortunately there will always be a stigma attached to exceptional children...I dont think we'll ever grow past it as a society. :sad2:
