Summer is great...especially if it is somewhat removed from the holidays (4th, Memorial, Labor, etc.)

Teachers and such aren't the only ones limited. I work for the post office and it is in our contract that we cannot have any time off from (appx.)December 1-24th. So any December outings are always out for me, as is-obviously- Podcast Cruise 2.0.

Thanks so much for considering those of us who are so interested in joining but have schedule conflicts!

Yep! My DH works retail. November and December are completely blocked off the vacation calendar

No reward necessary Aaron. The reward is knowing all of you (insert sucking noise here) In any case, I am also sorry we didn't meet. I may need to figure out a way to do the Indy meet. I have to check with DH's schedule. I am so easily influenced.

Finances are truly ruling our lives right now...love daycare costs, and DH has put the breaks on any vacation that doesn't use DVC points for a couple of years....BUT, that being said, I am interested in seeing what the price range would be. We have never done Universal or RCCL, and DH has been VERY interested in RCCL as of late as well. If the price is "doable", I know he'd look seriously at it!

I had a conference call with Universal and RCCL today for Dreams and I brought this idea up to them. Of course, they were VERY excited and I got the impression that they would definitely work with us to make this memorable and affordable. And yes, Harry Potter should be open by then!!!

This is not "official" pricing - I'm just grabbing this from Disney and RCCL's web site to give people an idea. For a 4 night cruise only (no land portion included) in mid July for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) in the lowest possible category inside stateroom, a Disney cruise is $4281 versus $1616 with Royal Caribbean. A difference of $2600. This is why we couldn't do the podcast cruise during the summer months - it's just too cost prohibitive. Of course, when we get pricing for the land add on that price goes up.

Now, it's only fair to point out that the Monarch of the Seas is not the Wonder - but it has had a major rehab recently and gets fairly good reviews on Cruise Critic (especially considering it's an older ship).

I'm going to work on group pricing and see what we come up with. Just to manage everyone's expectations this can be a drawn out process with a group like ours, so please be patient

Thanks for the update, Pete. I voted "Probably not..." as DD has a VERY narrow window during which she can travel at that time. Because of her year-round school schedule, she only has a few days between ending 7th and beginning 8th grade. (She gets 3 weeks off in August.) BUT.... I may be convinced so give it your best shot!! BTW, you would have a better chance if you could score a great rate at the HRH!

It'd be two adults for us if we get to go. Just guessing about the price, it might just be doable. I looked on RCC's website tonight a bit. I wasn't sure what ship to look under. I know NOTHING about cruising, but have always wanted to go on a Disney cruise. DCL looks amazing so I'll see what RCC is willing to figure out for us all. Either way, thanks again for doing this! I'm excited!

Just a thought, Pete, would Disney negotiate with you guys for a shorter cruise and better price if you mentioned RCC's offers to them plus your other two cruises through them (PCC 1 and 2 and a possible 3??)?

The main draw of a "podcast cruise" for this to me is exactly that ... the podcast. I'm looking to meet the podcast crew and fellow Dissers. Whether it's on DCL or RCCL, it makes no difference to me really. I think it's a great idea. Would we be able to do a cruise only for this? Or maybe only a 1 night at Universal?

Thanks Pete for your thoughfulness! I'm a retail manager, so November and December are blacked out for me. But my family and I are definitely looking to do our first family cruise together. Disney cruises are so cost prohibitive for us being that there are six of us, but this sounds like we could actually make it happen. Besides, my wife and kids have never been to Universal, so this would be a great combination. Count us in!

This cruise would be better timing for us, as well. We wouldn't have to pull Zoe from school. I think my family could be talked into doing it, too - as they have a strong interest in seeing Harry Potter.

Plus - we get to go with all the rest of the parent-types!
