Teacher gift ideas?!

After the year I had this year, I would have gladly accepted a nice bottle of wine!:rotfl: :rolleyes1

Heh.......actually wine was probably becoming the standard gift for thanking a special teacher. Quite a lot of families did this and there was almost a spirit of one upmanship on who would take in the wine that the teacher enjoyed the most.

I guess teaching is tough profession all over the world.

Lady, if you are good at it, I take my hat of to you

kindest regards :)

Gift certificates. Can't go wrong with gift certificates.

Now for next year, I shall pass on the best idea I've heard. At the beginning of the year, give your teacher a favorite things list to fill out. Things like favorite coffee place, favorite resturaunt, movie theater, teacher supply store, sports team, movie....It makes teacher gifts easy as pie to shop for.

Last year my DS was in private kindergarten. Instead of giving a gift to hang on the wall with all the kids' pictures on it, etc., the parents pitched in and bought a Shutterfly scrapbook. In that school, pictures were taken all the time by the teachers, helpers, etc and over the course of the year our kids had gone on 8 field trips - there were over 800 pictures! This was a nice way for the teacher to have a page for each child along with their name and various photos in one place. She loved it since she didn't have time for scrapbooking and our school didn't do a yearbook. This was something personal with notes from each of the families, slim to fit on a bookshelf and something that was very personal.

This year my DS is in public school and I have been volunteering in the classroom every 2 weeks. Something I noticed early on was that I was always the only one with a camera. So I took what pictures I had, put them into a book along with a very nice personal note thanking both of his teachers (they were part-time teachers) for all of their hard work with my DS. I understand that teachers don't want to remember every class but do you think this is all right? After reading this board, I am beginning to think that this gift won't be appreciated?

These are all good ideas - what about teachers' aides? or the specials' teachers? We have a bunch of these!

I spoke with our teachers friends at the school and found out she likes to go to the spa on her days off. I am the room mom so, I called all the parents and ask for $5 to $10. Everyone loved the idea and most pitched in. Having to buy multiple presents, it was a great $ saver.

I got my DD's fifth grade teacher a Cookie Book

and some moose munch in dark and regular chocolate.

We all chipped in at Christmas and at the end of the year for gas cards. That way the teachers could visit their grandbabies!

I usually give a flowering plant at the end of the year. We have a local greenhouse that has the most beautiful flowers. It is a gift that I would enjoy receiving. I do gift cards at Christmas.

Well, maybe this only works in the UK as we are pretty liberal about alcohol

In senior school my boys always took in a nice bottle of wine for favourite teachers. In addition my wife makes home made rum truffles and each teacher received a hand made pouch of rum truffles. We tried to select wines to match where they had been on vacation or that had names with links to their hobbies or interests. We never had a bottle refused. My youngest son had a lovely teacher who was a muslim and so my wife used no alcohol in her truffles and we bought her alcohol free sparkling fruit champagne.

My eldest lad who now works in IT had a lot of support from his music teacher who did not drink wine but drank beer. We used to spend a good few hours driving and walking around the wine cellars looking to put together a selection pack of 6 beers from micro breweries around the UK and Europe.

In junior school it was rum truffles plus a small bouquet of flowers (most teachers at these grades were women)

Really extra special teachers were invited home to dine with us, my wife is a great cook, and I would act as taxi driver so they could have some nice wines with each course including some Sautern with desert or one of my favourite Brown Bothers late bottled Muscat

Could I please teach your kids? I can teach English, History and Psychology and I am certified (granted in the U.S) for 5 year olds through 18 year olds. :lmao:

My ds' teacher is going to Disney twice this summer...so we're giving her a Disney gift card and a homemade bookmark (Mickey ears of course). For his other teachers we are giving smaller Target cards.

I have 2 DD. The 6th grader has 3 teachers. She is giving her homeroom teacher a beach towel with monkeys and a card she made saying "School's out, school's out, teacher let the monkey's out." Another teacher we found a bracelet with her inital and a key charm on it and she made a card that said "Thank you for holding the key of knowledge and for unlocking it for me." (Something like that, that doesn't look quite right.) Another teacher is getting a bathtub with mini lotions in it. (She loves bathtubs.) My DD who is in 3rd grade has 2 teachers and is making a cookbook for one. She will apple stamp a flour sack dish towel and make some trail mix. She only has her other teacher for 1 subject and he will get trail mix with a homemade card saying "Happy Trails for the summer." I really tried to get small tokens and make it budget.

We did little things all year long. (Gift cards for Christmas, Candy bars for Teacher Appreciation, We brought them each an Easter egg from the White House easter egg roll etc....) Good luck!

My DD first grade teacher is a HUGE Mickey fan, just my luck :thumbsup2 So I got her a Disney Beach bag and a towel to match at the Disney store. I only have one teacher so I spent a little more than I wanted to, but she is worht it, I just love her. She had the kids all sign a flower pot of flowers for me saying thanks for all I do for the class, it was awesome, I even cried. I am not a teacher but can imagine the mugs and candles get old, I wouldn't want them either.

Hi,

I just went today and got our teachers each

A small gift set of yankee candles it has a votive cup and three candles and is wrapped very nice they were on sale for $5.00

and I also got them a set from bath and body works with a lofah, shower gel and lotion that was 5.00 and it is also wrapped up nice

So I spent 10.00 total on each teacher which I don't think it is bad I was not sure what to get them after buying them gifts all year. I just am going to put them in a nice gift bag and a thank you card.

Excellent ideas. I'm a manager for Bath and Body Works and notice that alot of parents also like to buy from our anti-bacterial line for teacher gifts.
