Tea Tree Oil

My hubbie used the tea trea oil from The Body Shop. He commented when he first started using it that "it smells like turpentine" but he says the smell burns off pretty quickly. He's had good success with it.

We use TTO as an antiseptic. We also put a drop in the bottom of our trash cans.

I love Tea Tree oil! I use it to cleanse my skin and open my pores before applying Henna. :) It works GREAT! I bought mine at Trader Joe's, it's 100% pure and in a small bottle. I also have Melalueca oil but I have not yet tried it.
And I guess I'm weird.....I think Tea Tree oil smells good, not something I'd want to wear in public but I think it has a very clean smell. :) Strong yes, but clean.

Tea Tree Oil and Melalueca Oil are the same thing. The Tea Tree plant is Melaleuca alternifolia.

I tried Tea Tree for DS' acne, but he hated it so much that it just wasn't worth it -- some people just gag on the smell.

I know it's the same thing, I just haven't tried the Melaleuca brand yet. :) I just got it yesterday and since I use it for a specific task I haven't had the chance to try it out. But yes, it's the same thing. :)

I have used the TTO blend from the Body Shop since I discovered it when I was 21. I'd had mild acne since I was 13 and tried everything known to man to clear it up to no avail. I did have luck with the Body Shop's line of TTO products. My face was cleared up within 2 weeks and I have used it every day since the day I discovered it and even through pregnancy, I did not get pimples! Whichever version of it you find, the pure stuff or the blend, I hope you have as good of luck with it as I did!

The tea tree oil is an antiseptic just like alcohol would be. We've tried this system with my daughter who has struggled with acne since she was 8 years old, she's 14 now. Proactiv made a difference but didnt solve the problem. The prescription benzicleans has been a miracle for her. See the doctor and then watch the results..

To Update:

I have used the OCM on my daughter twice now, on her face and back. I've used a mixture of Extra Virgin Olive Oil mostly, Castor Oil amounting to about a quarter of the total amount of EVOO, and just a teeny bit of tea tree oil. At first my daughter squinched up her face at the scent of the tea tree, but then after a while she said it made it seem like a real spa!

This morning when she got up and went towards the bathroom I had to stop her and STARE... I could NOT believe how much better her back looked!! She craned herself around to see it as well and was SO excited! We're going to keep this up each evening, with her regular cleansing in the mornings (since she usually doesn't have time for the whole ritual in the morning).

OH!! And if anyone's looking for it, Rite Aid is currently having a sale with Tea Tree Oil buy one get one free. Since the teeny little bottle cost $10, that was a REALLY nice find!

I use the OCM, and love it! Amazing what it does for your skin! Keep using it; you'll be amazed at the difference it'll make.

I've found 100% pure Tea Tree oil at Wegmans and Whole Foods. The Body Shop has Tea Tree oil but it is not 100% and is very overpriced for what you get.

Some folks don't like the smell of tea tree but it works wonders on my skin. I'm in my late 30's but have acne like a teenager. In addition to prescription meds (BenzaClin, Differin gel), using Tea Tree blended with either grapefruit or rosemary essential oil works wonders for me.

So do you use it 2x a day on the back? Or is it ok to just use at night? I am going to try this. Proactiv did absolutely nothing except stain her clothes and sheets. Using Murad now. Stuff from the Dermatlogist didn't even help. Also, do you steam the back, too?

I have used it only twice so far; going to do the whole thing each night and she takes her regular shower in the AM. The prescription we got for her at the doctor's did nothing for her, either.

When I do her back, when it comes to the steaming I just lay cloths that have been run under very hot water on her back. WOW did the pimples stand out :lmao: but once they settled, this morning, the difference was amazing! I hope it continues to work as well.

I think I might try some with grapefruit essential oil next time I mix up a batch; that sounds like it might be nice! :)

Thanks, Darsa. Will you let me know how the grapefuit oil works? I am so eager to help her poor skin.

Will do! Happy to help :)

I bought ours at a Health Food store. 100% Pure and DD used it for a month for ance and put up with the awful smell, we noticed no difference at all in her acne.

Did she just use the Tea Tree Oil? There are a bunch of different combinations of oils that can be used based on the different skin-types. My DD is using the "young acne-prone skin" one, I'm using a different one, and my mom is expressing interest in another one. This keeps up, I'm going to end up opening my own spa!

The brand "Thursday's Plantation" is pretty good. They sell it in health food stores. They also make an acne cleanser and a bunch of other tea tree oil products. I have the tea tree oinment and it seems to work on my excema when I consistently use it. It just stinks though!

:bump:

Just wanted to bump for an update. My daughter's back looks FANTASTIC compared to how it did before we began this! :cool1: It has done an amazing job, and we'll be continuing with it for, like, ever :) This weekend my niece came over and we started her on it too, heh. Sent her home with a bottle of the concoction and instructions. It's also working well on her face, but her back was her biggest concern, heh.

I did also increase the amount of Castor Oil in the mixture, because her skin is SO oily.

you're not weird.. I think it smells good too! I may just be used to it though because I have been using it for a long time.. I use it for any sort of cuts/spots, etc.... you can use tea tree oil for a lot of different things!

I'm going to do the trash can thing now .. what a great idea!

btw, I've heard of the oil cleansing method.. and heard great things about it.. maybe I'll try it after I run out of my facial cleanser that I have now!

My family has been using Melaleuca oil for for over ten years now. In everything from our shampoo, to an acne system, to putting it straight on burns and boosting our laundry :laundy: . As someone else explained, Melaleuca oil, is the real name for Tea Tree Oil. It works amazing on acne. My 15 year old son and 17 year old god daughter both us an acne system based on Mela. oil which runs $14.95 a month. And our goddaughter had tried it all, from doctor prescribed treatments to pro-active, with minimal success. It does also work great on dandruff, but you do not apply it directly to the scalp. I personally also like the smell of it, and have a cleaner made up of primarily mela. oil that I use to sanitize my counters, toilets, and everything in between. Best of all, it is natural and not caustic like all other cleaners you can buy. :grouphug:

I have to tell you, yesterday, I went to CVS after reading this thread. I found a bottle of tea tree oil while I was there. After reading all the comments about how nasty this stuff stinks, I had to see for myself. I was really worried that if I opened up the bottle to smell it, it would stink up the entire store. :rotfl:I was surprised to find that I didn't mind the smell at all and isn't as bad as I have read(at least to me anyway). They were selling it as a hair/scalp treatment.
