Hello everyone. Just thought of this. I will be traveling with a 17 month old and when we port in bahamas we plan on heading to atlantis for the aquarium. Will we be required to provide a car seat to the taxi?

As far as I know, yes. A car seat is required. And most taxis don't have them.

I found this on the internet:
It is the law that all drivers and their passengers wear seat belts while riding in a vehicle in The Bahamas.

  1. A child weighing less than twenty pounds shall face the rear of the vehicle secured in an infant seat fitted to the rear seat.
  2. A child twenty pounds and less than forty pounds—convertible car seat fitted to the rear seat.
  3. A child over forty pounds or up to 4 ft. 9 in. tall shall be secured in a booster car seat fitted in the rear seat.
  4. A child taller than 4 ft. 9 in. and between 8 and 12 years old shall be required to use a seat belt.

The taxis won't have any problem taking you if you're comfortable not having a car seat. Its a pretty short ride from the port to Atlantis...no highways, just bumpy local road.

Alternatively, you could avoid taxis completely take the water taxi/ferry from the port over to Paradise Island. Its a 5-10 minute walk over to Atlantis from the dock where you get dropped off. The water taxis are a little slow, as they wait to fill up before departing.
