Have you ever seen it? Know someone who's had it done? I know if I could afford to clone my pug I defintely would but it got me thinking as to what extremes others may go to to "keep" their pet forever.

It's kind of a little creepy.

A neighbor lady in my parents neighborhood has one of her dog... you can see it from the living room window. She moves it about... like on Halloween, it is IN the window... like it would have been, perhaps.

I agree on the creepy.

And I would find it more than a little sad to have my beloved dogs immortalized for life with no personality, no movement, no spunk. My dogs are never still, so it would be disturbing to have them be "still" forever.

I also don't think I could ever clone my pets. I think my male German Shepherd is the most perfect dog ever, but there's only one of him and I couldn't imagine ever trying to "re-create" who he is.

I love old Victorian taxidermy but think it would be too sad to have a beloved pet stuffed. I've always said I'd have my maine coon stuffed but I don't think I could deal with it. I also think it is sad to keep someones ashes in the house, they're there but not. I don't think it's creepy, more melancholy.

I agree with creepy. You love your pet for it's personality not it's skin.

Very creepy. My first dog who lived to be 15 is cremated and after she died I didn't feel "right" until her ashes were home with me, but no way would I want her stuffed and sitting in the living room with me..that's just bizarre!

I would not want my husband to have me stuffed and placed in a corner so I won't do it to my dog either.

As much as I love my funbabies, that would be too creepy for me.
I have my kitty's ashes in an urn that looks like 2 books with her picture and stats on it and it sits on my computer desk.....that works for me.

I don't think I could ever do it. It would be creepy for me, not to mention the cost involved.

When I had to have a cat put to sleep I did buy a stuffed one that looks a lot like her. They were popular a few years ago, made of rabbit fur and curled up to look like they were sleeping and some came with little wicker beds. It's not full size, but does really remind me of her so it's a memorial to her.

Bury the thing for crying out loud! :scared1:

Awwww, I can't bury my pets. This is not my forever home and I can't imagine leaving them behind when I move. My pets are cremated and in a wooden box.

I would NOT stuff them and sit them in the corner.

OMG! This stuffed animal is exactly what made me think that people may taxidermy thier pets! LOL

I agree with PP's that I feel it's creepy/morbid but if it helps people get through the grief, who am I to judge.

Uh no. My pets only mean something to me when they are with me. When they die, they take what makes me love them with them. Having their body stuffed and hanging around collecting dust does not interest me in the least. Take lots of pictures of them smiling and wagging their tails and put them up around the house if you miss them. Donate some money to your local animal shelter or rescue group in their memory - hold the stuffing.

I know people who have had their pets preserved. Not something I would do, but I understand why they do it.

We have our deceased pets cremated and keep their remains. When I go, they will go with me.

Here is a link to pet-preservation. I think the results look amazing, but I would feel very sad to see my pet laying there without any life.

And although I have had many pets I would have loved to clone, there is no way I would do that with so many wonderful pets out there waiting to be adopted. Same with breeding, why make more pets when there are already so many homeless in the world?

My DH's uncle actually had his cat taxidermied - before we met thankfully. I have a horrible fear of taxidermy animals. I have never seen the cat but I'll still nervous that it may be around when I'm at their house!

I just lost a pet today (granted, it was a mouse but she had A LOT of personality) and I could never imagine having her stuffed. We're going to bury her in the backyard this weekend. Her poor baby (we had mommy and baby - granted baby is a year old) doesn't seem to understand why her mommy isn't there with her anymore There's been a lot of tears at my parent's house today. :(

:scared1: I right away thought of Roy Rogers horse being "preserved" The pets we have lost have been cremated and as pp stated will go with me

oh my. I don't think I would want my pets stuffed around the house. It would be too sad. To have them just there. Not doing all the things they used to do. No I would not do it. I do have my first dog's ashes though. I wanted to hold onto something. My lab barks at the ashes. It's kind of creepy too now that I think about that.
