We are flying into LGB airport and trying to figure out the easiest and cheapest way to get to the hotel by Disneyland with a family of 5. I have searched the other LGB airport tranfer threads and am liking the idea of just grabbing a taxi out front. We have a family of five and I wondered if how much more a van taxi is than the car, which i understand is the flat $45 rate. Is it the same? Also do you need car seats in the taxi? We are bringing my three year olds booster, but wonder if we will need one for my short 7 year old.
I also read that someone rented a car for one day and dropped it off in Downtown Disney. Has anyone else ever done this? I wondered if with would work also as we were going to eat at Rainforest the first night also. Thanks sooooo much for any help!!

We always fly into Long Beach, and yes, you do need a booster seat for the taxi. I'm not sure about your 7yo, but you will for sure need to bring one for your 3yo. For the older child, it is more often about the height than age.

We took a van last time we went with our friends, and I believe they charged us $45 per family. So since you only have one family, I'd assume it would be the standard $45 since you are only one family, or possibly a little bit more since it's a van. I think if you make it clear you are one family though, you should be fine. We had 7 people with three kids in car seats, so we were kind of a handful!

Taxi Vans should be the same rate as the cars (at least it was when we used one before our cruise in April). Car rental for 5 is going to be hard to get for less than the ~$50 taxi ride.

Awesome! Thank you both, KateDrake and ErikdaRed, for your responses!! I think this is the way we will go. We dont need the car during the week so the taxi van just sounds so easy to grab and go. Did you guys fly in with Jetblue or Delta?

Oh great! We are in SLC, flying in on Jet Blue. We're planning on using the taxi again this time, it is just so convenient. I've done the shuttle before, which can be a good deal if you get a coupon, but I hate that they make you arrive at the airport so early. LGB isn't big enough to hang out in for two hours!

When are you guys headed down? Sorry I don't know the answer on the car seat for your older child, we only have a 3yo, so we haven't dealt with that yet!

Yes, you need a booster for your 7 yo unless she is 4'9", iirc. I think the law is 8yo or 4'9" in Cali.

Hi we just got back on Monday, we are a family of five and have done Disney via LGB several times, using different methods, sometimes you can find a cheap limo, other times not. Right now there are none, and super vans and shuttles cost more and you have to share.

So we land and walk to the taxi place, then, if there is no van we ask, usually the vans are around the corner because only three taxis can be there at once, but as you walk across the street you will see a cab man and he will ask if you want a cab, just tell him you need a van, he will tell you to wait and it take maybe 5 minutes for a cab van to come along.

It cost $45 no matter van or car, but they may try to tell you more, but long beach has a fixed rate so it they turn on the meter which they will you still only have to pay the $45 and they can not ask for the higher meter price which will be about $56.

Going back it will cost more, it is not a fix price so expect it to cost $10 tp $15 more when you go back to the airport, which is about the price of a super shuttle. Also, if you want the cheapest when going back, call a taxi yourself, depending on what hotel you are at if they have there own taxis they use, then it will be more, we had our hotel call a taxi for us once, when it arrived it was not a taxi it was a suv or a van with nothing saying taxi, they charged us $72 for the ride, they had no meter so how can you argue. At Disneyland hotels they call you a regular taxi, in a yellow cab or van and they have meters and then it should cost between $55 and $60. So just make sure if your hotel has there own people they call taxis you call one yourself if you want it cheaper.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! We were wondering if we would need one or if she would be ok. I read some taxis wont even take you if you dont have the proper seats for kids. We will bring one with us. Thanks!

This helps a ton!! Thank you! These are great tips! Im pretty sure we will go with the taxi as it just sounds so easy, though my kids would love a limo! I didnt think about that. We actually have 3 other families of 4 that we are traveling with so maybe we will have to look into the limo for the afternoon.

We are a big family planning a trip into LGB next month, so I recently had this same issue in the planning! From many posts I read on these boards, the trip back to the airport costs a decent amount more than the flat rate of $45 to get to the hotel. Like any other taxi, it depends on traffic and such. Seems like $75 is not unheard of... So that in addition to tips, it adds up. Anyway, I found a shuttle through the LGB website called AMPM Shuttle. For our family of 7, roundtrip, it's $100. Something to consider!

Thank you! We are flying into LGB in December and out of SNA. Looked up AMPM Shuttle and it looks like they have the best rates for our family! $50 from LGB and $43 to from DL to SNA...total of $97. Looked at rental car for the week and it's over $240.
