Taxi van at SNA - availability and space?

We're flying into SNA, and we'll have 4 adults and 3 children. We get in at 10:30 at night - is it ever a problem later at night to get a big taxi van?

Second question: We'll also have a big double stroller (Chariot)...with all 7 seats taken in the van, is there room in the back for a stroller? Thanks!

We've flown in late and the lady who works out there waived us to the taxi that was next available (a bunch of them are outside in a line). If you need a van, I think you just need to request one from the attendant outside. You may want to call the Orange County taxi office just to be on the safe side, though. (714) 999-9999

"John Wayne Airport Yellow Cab offers convenient taxicab service to travelers from the Ground Transportation Center (GTC) on the Arrival (lower) Level between Terminals A and B. In Terminal C, Yellow Cabs are available on the Arrival (lower) Level at Column 14. Taxicabs include standard 4-passenger vehicles, large capacity 7-passenger vans, and wheelchair access vans, and because all taxicabs are either powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or are certified Ultra Low-Emission Vehicles (ULEV), you’ll be riding in some of the greenest yellow vehicles in Orange County! Look for the taxi coordinators who can assist you and get you on your way."

We're taking 2 ubers. Cheaper than an uber x.

Plus, you can get codes between the adults for $15 off.

We have used vans previously from the taxi line. We are only a family of four but I cannot stand to squish into a sedan so we ask for a van. It was not the next vehicle in the line, but further back, so the attendant motioned for the van to come over. I think one time we had to wait a little bit for one to appear as there wasn't one in the line at all. I seem to remember the van being a multi passenger van and there should be room for luggage and double stroller. However, if they only have a regular, family sized van then, no, there won't be enough space. I feel pretty confident the taxi line people will be able to get you what you need.

Good luck!

I feel like all that is not going to fit in one van. I have a single chariot. It has to go in sideways in the van cargo area, I think a double would go in the same way but go up even higher. Thus leaving room for maybe one big bag and one carry on in the cargo area until it is stacked to the roof. I think you will actually need a van and a 4 passenger taxi. Plus the kids that fit in that stroller need car seats under ca law unless I am mistaken. This might be the one instance where I would recommend magic express.

I've thought about it - we've never used Uber, and my husband seems to think people would get pissy with us having to install 3 car seats. Do you think that would be a problem?

Thanks! I think I'm going to call the taxi people and see if anyone can give me more info.

I would prefer that, but we're not getting in until 10:30 and night and it looks like they don't run that late! ETA: I know, chariots are beasts. If there aren't some weird regulations that would prevent us from doing it, we can totally shove bags under the kids' feet and our feet for that matter...it's just a question of the chariot actually fitting probably.

Yes I think that's what she means - none of those guys run that late at night, so we either need a super shuttle type of thing, taxi van, or uber.
Super Shuttle doesn't run that late either. That was our go-to transportation, but we called and were told that they close at SNA by 10 p.m. (I think that was when they closed). That trip was the reason why we had to use a taxi instead, which made things easier because we didn't have to wait or drop anyone else off. We were able to fit about 5 large suitcases into the back of the taxi, which was the car that was larger than a cab but smaller than a van. However, that particular taxi only fit 4 passengers.

If possible have someone install in one car and 2 install in the other car. Then the 4th can direct the drivers with the bags. I've installed 2 by myself in an Uber no problem in Seattle.

We ended up using Lyft on our recent trip instead of taxis. Lyft had a promotion so what we did was use my husband's app on our way to the airport at home and he got $10 off that ride. We then used a referral from him to get $10 off our trip to Anaheim from LAX by creating an account for me. He then got a promotion for $5 off his next 4 rides so we did a two small rides in Anaheim, one to LAX, and one from the home airport using Lyft Line to save more money. There may be terms that limit you from using them at the same time but its worth looking into what they can offer you as you would save on multiple cars vs a van. I also believe others have mentioned if you use Uber X you can request a specific car. Someone here also posted a link right before I left for a car service with reasonable rates, that would ensure you have the car or van you need which may be a better option as you will not want significant delays with small children. We discovered that due to conflicts with taxi car drivers Lyft and Uber cannot pickup or drop off in certain areas, so we still had a wait but it was better than the taxi lines at LAX.

On that note our driver from LAX to our hotel had a nice conversation with us and he himself was a father with two small children. One of the drivers we had in Anaheim was nice and the other was older and very quiet. Since you have a wide range of people working for these car services you never know, but compared to NYC taxi drivers they were very charming and kind ;)

Do you have to bring the chariot? I feel like it might be less expensive to rent a double stroller for your time there. Then you would all fit in a single Van taxi

Yeah I think we do - with a chariot we can cram all 3 kids in if necessary, as opposed to a typical double...and we're going to Palm Springs afterwards for a conference (the point of our trip...my husband got suckered into Disneyland per usual :) )so we need it there also! I found a $22 off Uber, so we'll probably try the taxi van and if that doesn't work, we can do 2 ubers I guess. Or hitchhike! Haha

Thanks! I'll have to look into Lyft too. I didn't want to deal with a car since we end up not using it and parking is usually $20/night, but this has been more difficult than I thought it would be. ha!

A private service is very easy and probably about the same cost. We have used Lansky's and JAG bot were fantastic and I think both have vans that would work for you. Good Luck.

I agree you need the chariot. DH & I are flying alone part of the way meeting my sisters in a different airport. We don't have enough hands in the airport to get all our stuff on the plane. :)

haha that's also true - when the kids refuse to sit in the stroller, in go the 3 carseats and the bags! All the storage space for food in the park is just too convenient.
