I might sound stupid with these questions, but I've only ridden in one taxi in my life. We don't have any in my small town. :rolleyes1

First of all, I was thinking of taking a taxi from our resort, AKL, to another resort for dinner ADR so we would waste less time on the bus. After dinner, we'd go to a park for an hour or two, and then ride a bus back to AKL. How much would that cost approximately? And how far in advance do I need to schedule the ride?

Secondly, I also thought about calling a taxi for a couple of later nights in the parks. For example, on a night we're seeing Fantasmic, I would rather get a cab than to wait in line for a bus and then maybe have to stand on the bus (I have feet and balance problems). How far in advance would I schedule something like this, and how much would it be?

Does this even sound like a good idea? I priced car rentals, but it would be around $300 for the least expensive. I just wanted to see if taking the occasional taxi would be cheaper.

Subscribing because I would like to hear the replys

I also have only been in a cab a couple of times in my lifetime so for my last trip I looked on mousesavers for advice and here is what I remember. Use the yellow cab name because they have a relationship with disney and always ask BEFORE you get in what the fee will be. I needed a cab to DTD form BWV so I went out to the Valet stand and there was a cab already waiting the fee was $10. I got another cab right where I was dropped off at DTD. The phone # I had for yellow cab is 407-699-9999 and if you have 5 or more you can ask for a van at no extra cost. I'm sure a CM at the desk at your resort can give you more info.

I'm needing the same info!

We have never NOT rented a car, but this trip we are considering it. I would like to have a car, so we don't have to depend on the bus service to get to all the TS meals we have planned. BUT, I would rather not have a car, so I can enjoy a drink or two!!! (I absolutely refuse to drive if I've had even one drink).

Taxi seems like a fair option, but at what price????

Would you believe I rode in a taxi for the first time at WDW earlier this month and I'm 50 something years old :rotfl2: We were transferring from All Star Sports to Saratoga Springs and did not want to leave our bags at Sports so we took a taxi and took our bags with us. We also wanted to check in early in the morning. We called the front desk and they gave us the number and we called them the night before and made arrangements. It was $17 plus tip.

Did you go through Mears, Judy?

I was thinking of budgeting around $20 per cab ride, which sounds reasonable considering your price. We have five trips we want to make.

I just asked my daughter. She said it was owned by Mears which would make sense as to why Disney recommended it. When we called the night before we asked how much it would be. It took a while for them to figure up but they told us $17.

I just looked at the package we got at POP last year and the telephone directory that we got had a taxi service number on it. It's 407 422 2222.

I will look for our things from this trip and will let you know if the number is different.

I found my papers from three weeks ago and it has the same number. When I did a reverse look up it says Yellow Cab.

This is a great thread to ask this as I don't feel quite so alone in being new to cab service.
Our daughter will have a near two month old baby with us when we travel to Sea World from OKW. Can you request a cab/van with a car seat available for the baby?
Thanks for any input! :wave2:

To get a taxi at WDW you simply walk outside your hotel or the park and there should be a taxi stand (waiting cabs). If for some reason there are not cabs there a CM should be able to call one. We took one cab last year (BC to MK) it was something ike $10-15.

As far as rates, if you go to the MEARS site there's a taxi fare calculator -- you type in your destination and your starting point and it gives you a fair guess of what you have to pay, minus the tip.

I wouldn't count on getting a newborn seat. Even if they sent a cab with one the straps most likely wouldn't be adjusted for a baby that small and you'd spend forever fixing them. I'd vote for bringing your own seat, although I admit I don't know where to store it while at SW (never been there).

And finally, my understanding is that yellow cab is a subsidiary of Mears.

Probably not. If you get a cab at the lobby of the resort, you'll get whatever car is parked out front waiting for a fare or already in the area that they dispatch over and I've never seen a car seat in a cab. Then again, we don't have children, so I've never asked for one, but I've never heard of a cab having car seats.

You might want to check with some of the town car services to see if they can assist, but that may be a more expensive option. Either way, I don't think I'd be comfortable borrowing a car seat from a car company- even if they did have one, how would you know if it was newer and met safety standards, is regularly cleaned and checked for frayed straps, damage, etc? I think you might be better off bringing your own.

When we were at WDW in 2004 we used allot of cabs because of my DH and his inability to stand very long. Usually there were cabs waiting outside the resorts so getting one from a resort to another resort (for ADR's) was simple. The only encounter where we had a long wait was after the Luau at the Poly one night -- we were staying at AKL and wanted to go there without going to another park. The valets were nice enough to call the cab company for us, but it still took awhile for them to get to us (the cabs that had been at the Poly were scooped up by those exiting the Luau ahead of us).

All in all, no cab ride (with tip) was inexcess of $20. The longest journey was at the beginning of our trip when we were at the AKL as that is furthest away from everything.

I will not hesitate to use cab service again this December when we go.

If we take a cab from a Disney resort (CSR) to the MK, will it drop us off at the front gate like the buses do, or would it drop me off at the TTC? I know, we can take a bus to the MK from the hotel but we'd like to arrive earlier than the first bus will get us there.
