Does anyone know what the standard taxi rates are on the islands? When we were on the Magic, I called Guest Services and asked for the rates from the port to Orient Beach on St. Maarten. They told me it was $7 per person (adult or child) for a total of $21 one way for two adults and one 4 year old child.
At the taxi circle though, the quoted rate for Orient Beach was $8 per person one way from one cabbie. Are these standard fees they are quoting or should people choose the cab that quotes $7? Is there a discount for more people or something?
I spoke with a passenger from a Royal Carribean cruise to St. Maarten, and she told me they paid only $5 per person to Orient Beach for a party of 9.
We ended up going to Dawn Beach instead which was quoted at $20 total for the 3 of us one way (I added a $2 tip at the return) even though Dawn Beach is much closer to the port, but the taxi did return to pick us up.
If everyone posts their findings, maybe we can get a concensus on what a fair taxi rate is.
