Taxi in Vancouver

Do most taxis in Vancouver accept credit cards, and more specifically, Discover?

I took a taxi a couple weeks ago from the airport to the port and the taxi I was in accepted all major credit cards, including my American Express.

I would ask before you get in the taxi. We used a MasterCard with no problem, but I asked each time I got in a taxi.

Visa/Mastercard is preferred for the lower merchant fees.

When waving your American Excess card, you driver may ask for a second card.

Discover is not a popular card in Vancouver.

Discover cards are not widely accepted in Canada.

As pp mentioned, Discover isn't widely used in Canada as it us in the U.S. DH was bummed to learn this since they apparently have no or low international fees, which is useless if it's not widely accepted. We've since gotten a Chase premier card for this reason as they have no international transaction fees.

That is what I was looking to avoid was the foreign transactions fees, and my Discover is the only one that doesn't have any. But hubby pointed out that if it is just 3%, we'd pay $3 on $100, so I guess it really isn't a big deal. I just see the word "fee" and I freak out a little.
