What would be the closest/best grocery store?

Any idea what a taxi would cost?

Staying before our cruise and would like to use ME, so no grocery stop on the way from MCO to the resort. Can't see the expensive of limo service, if I can figure a way to get the guys to a grocery store to pick up some drinks/water/adult beverages.

TIA

You'll find it less expensive AND much more convenient to use a grocery delivery service. No need to take the time away from your vacation to shop, and the service charge will cost less than round-trip taxi fare.

You could use a grocery delivery service, granted there is a delivery fee but the cost would be less than a cab and the two that I know of, we go shop and garden grocer both will deliver alcohol.

Or, you could rent a car from Alamo or National, one way from MCO and return it later that day to the Dolphin. I've done that a few times, and it is not always too expensive. I've gotten one for under $30 with a coupon once or twice.

Just make sure you put in that you're returning it to the Dolphin when you book it - the code for National is orlr13 I think. You can look it up.

That way, you have a car for the day. You can stop at the store, get what you want, drop off everyone at your resort, then go return the car. Maybe meet up at Epcot then?

It's also quicker than ME.

I personally LOVE the convenience of a towncar. They meet you at luggage pickup area, help you with your luggage, and even with a grocery stop, you'd be at your resort quicker than with ME. It's worth the $50 or so to me.

If you are set on using ME, then it would save your vacation time to order a delivery.

To answer the OP's question, we went to the nearest grocery store, Winn Dixie, from SSR, which is a little closer then WL, for $40 round trip, including tip. ;) There is another closer store, Gooding's, but it is expensive and does not carry everything.

I very very strongly disagree that a car service + grocery stop will get you to your resort in less time than Disney's Magical Express.

In fact, a car service WITHOUT a grocery stop will be, on average, maybe just a few minutes less than the average DME run. On my 3 times using DME, I timed it from airplane exit to resort drop-off. Those 3 times were 63 minutes, 56 minutes and 57 minutes. I can't imagine that you can walk off an airplane, walk to baggage claim, wait for your bags, claim your bags, go to the car service vehicle, have the driver load the vehicle and then drive directly to your resort in substantially less than my best DME time of 56 minutes. Could it all be done in 45 or 50 minutes? I'm sure it often does take about 50 minutes from airplane to resort via a car service ... but I'm not thinking that the "extra" 6 minutes it took me was a problem.

And this is why I'm saying that a 30 minute grocery stop (as part of the car service) will almost definitely take you longer than taking DME.

I always advise people to choose for the car service (and pay accordingly) if that level of service (personalized, private) is important to them. But if they're just interested in getting there in a safe and timely manner and don't care to pay for personalized service in a private vehicle, then DME will get there in roughly the same amount of time.
