Was wondering if folks have done this? Which grocery store would you recommend, how much was the fare to the store approx, did you just hail another cab after you were done shopping or did the original cab wait (cant imagine that??). With rental car rates we are seriously thinking of just doing DME to the resort but we do need a grocery stop as we are in a Villa.

Any info would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure that if you get a towncar for your ride to the hotel from the airport you get a 30min grocery stop and I think the rate for the car is like $130 or so after tipping...then you could take DME back to the airport. I don't know about taxi rates but I figure this was at least worth mentioning

We usually rent a car on our trips so I don't know about a cab. There is a Publix about 5 miles or so away from AKL on Bronson Memorial Hwy.

How about ordering from Garden Grocer or WeGoShop? That way you will not have to worry about doing it yourself.

We've used Garden Grocer twice and been very pleased. The prices are a bit higher than here at home, but much better than WDW prices! You can arrange when you want your items delivered and it is an easy transaction.

You can fax an order to Albertson's ---- see link below. I don't know where they are located in relation to WDW. We used to have an Albertson's in my area and I remember their pricing was not the best. Wal-Mart and Publix seem to have good pricing.

Grocery delivery will be cheaper and easier and take less time than getting taxis to and from a store and wandering around a strange store where you don't know where anything is. Three times, I've used Goodings (www.goodings.com).

Depending on your airline's free checked baggage allowance you might pack items like cereal and coffee. Pay resort pricing for milk. Consider what you're saving by not paying to rent a car, using a taxi or paying a grocery delivery fee. Paying resort pricing for a few perishable items may be both cost and time effective.

You can always use Disney transportation to go to one of the Hess mini-marts. Hess has competitive pricing on bottled water, soda and "fun foods".

Those suggestions won't work if you're going to use your kitchen for preparing real meals and want to buy items like fresh meat.

I would also consider renting a car for one day. Pick up at MCO drop off at the Dolphin. This will allow you to do your grocery stop. This cost us $28.00 including taxes and fees for one day in December through Alamo using the Walmart code and either the one way rental discount or weekend rate discount. Check in online, just use kiosk at airport and walk across the street to your car.

I agree with the grocery delivery service suggestions. We stayed at AKL and they delivered, it worked very well.

www.gardengrocer.com is the company we used.

Maybe you want to be able to pick out the groceries yourself, so another option would be to rent a car from Alamo with their $20 weekend rate. You are required to have Sat. night to get this rate, can pick it up Thurs. afternoon, and must return Monday by 12:00 noon. You can use the location at the car care center CCC, and they offer free shuttle pick up/drop off to all the Disney resorts. I have done this the past 2 trips and it has worked out great to have a partial car rental. I did all my shopping when I had the car, plus scheduled my ADR's that were harder to get to! Anyhow, just another option for you to consider.

I just love the partial car rental idea and didn't know Alamo had such a great deal. Where can I find out more? Also how do I get to the car center place from a park or resort?

I'm doing the Alamo/ Car Care Centre one-day rental in just 11 more sleeps!! Unfortunately, we're staying during the week, and I can't get the $20 weekend daily rate. I'm paying $40 for a 24 hour rental, but I'm saving $30 on baggage fees as I'm not packing a bunch of personal care items and snacks like I usually do, just picking them up at the Walmart Super Center. Plus DD is dying to go shopping at an outlet mall, so it all works out! I love the Disney section at the Super Centre too, always find some great, cheap buys for clothing there. Can't wait!!!:cool1:
