Taxi costs over national holidays

Hello All,

We will be staying at Port Orleans in October (including Columbus Day). My thoughts are to avoid the Parks that weekend and do some shopping on I-Drive.
I have a couple of questions:

1 : Do Taxi's charge more for using the service on national holidays?

2 : If we used a Taxi, do you think the I-Drive area will be very busy i.e. expensive fare due to sitting in traffic that weekend?

Any opinions would be great.. :)

Best Regards, Alex.

1. There should be no additional fare on the taxi. I have never lived in Florida, but I am American nad have lived most of my life there (in case my current location throws you:thumbsup2) and have never experienced higher taxi rates on a holiday.

2. I cannot speak to traffic the area you reference. What I can tell you is that Columbus Day is a MINOR holiday in the USA. Banks and government offices will be closed. Only about 1/2 of schools will (maybe less) and very few other businesses. I doubt very much that park attendance will spike signifcantly for the day or weekend (a bit yes, but not much). It is day in which many stores traditionallly have sales (often they run all week long but are marketed as "Columbus Day" sales) and I do think you will find a much bigger spike in the number of shoppers for the day than you will in park attendees.

I hope this helps a little. Have a great trip.

You are most welcome. I have no idea how it is in the UK--but I see that here in Germany everything (and very school) pretty much shuts down for all national holidays so I did not know if you would realize we have some very "minor" national days. It is kind of an odd thing I think to have in the US.

We have been here a year this month and made it to DLP Paris once (last May--for 5 days). It is a very different experience, but we really enjoyed it. We could not get over how beautiful their Magic Kingdom is. I think we will try to get back every other year or so.

In the UK, the National Holidays are called Bank Holidays. Everyone will be out and about and all the shops are open (except Christmas Day).
I stay off the roads during bank holidays...

Glad you liked Disneyland Paris. I love it, although I miss having a partners statue in front of the castle (its next door at the Studios) and I am never keen on the fact you can see main street from outside the actual park, where as the original parks have the entrance either side of the station. I like the "leaving the real world" aspect of the USA parks. Having said that, the entrance is more of a european park type style... 8o)

Its only a two hour train ride from the uk, so thats great.

take care.. Alex.
