taxes on meals

We will be paying for a few breakfast OOP.

Can you tell me if the meal is say $18 dollars how much extra do we have to add on for tax percentage wise? I know we have to pay for the tip as well

You just have to get into the habit when looking at a price on anything there that what you see is not what you pay. For quick calculations I add 10 % and know that I will get a bit of change.

Yes, sales tax goes on everything over there, the odd time you will get something which includes sales tax or exempt but they are few and far between so just assume every price you see needs it adding.

You calculate the tip on a meal using the before tax price.

Yes, it does take some getting used too, we used to work out are money before paying as we weren't used to the currency and we would get to the checkout and the amount would be a little more. I have got used to it now after three trips.

Disney's pretty "good" about things like this and they put a recommended tip on the bottom of the bill (usually a price for 18% and one for 20%).

It will be all broken up on the bill, the cost of the meal and then the tax and then the total so you can see. They also put a recommended 18% & 20% tip worked out for you. You don't have to tip those amounts though if you feel the service has been poor or outstanding, you can tip more or less.

I thought since there was eight of us eating we had no choice on the amoutn of tip?

If your service has been awful, you can ask them to change it or get rid of it completely.

Opposite wise if it's been exceptional.

A tip is always optional

Honestly, it probably depends on the restaurant. You are correct that most still tell you because you have "6 or more" they will put it on automatically. The actual DDP guide says you will be charged 18% on your bill if more than 6 people. Now maybe if your service was bad enough, and you are persistent, they will not charge you, but you can't count on that.

If I was you I would just plan on 18% like the DDP plan says
