Tax refunds

This is just great!! I have to pay off my ressie by Mar 20th and now I am finding out I may not even get my return back by then. What will I have to do with Disney? Cancel? and hope there is availability when I finally get it? Plus to get the Spring discount.. you have to book by Mar 31. If it doesn't come by then, don't know if we could afford to g

We filed ours early so that we could have the extra money for our trip to Disney on Monday. So frustrating. The one and only time we used H&R Block. I told DH to just do it by hand, as usual, and he wanted to use HRB. We used to use Turbo Tax and got audited 3x, so we went back to doing it by hand.

GRRR . . . I have now been hearing at least another month before we will get it. Great. I agree with another poster, had we known about the problems with the education credit, we would have just amended later.

I called 1800 829 1040 and got through to someone after about a 45 minute hold time. She was very nice, but wasnt able to tell me much more than it had been corrected on 2/21 and was still being processed, and that a lot of people were in the same boat. I asked if it was the education credit and she said yes. She said if there was a problem with the return, such as a letter having been sent out, that she would have been able to see that, so that nothing was wrong. She could give me any estimation of time, saying it would just be a guess. I filed on 2/15 through H&R Block. She told me that she couldnt file until that day with the education credits. My ticker changed about a week ago to just the still being processed message, a date will be given when available.

Sigh- I'm both glad and frustrated to hear I'm not the only one in this situation. I'm glad because it makes me slightly less worried. I'm frustrated for all of us.

We filed Feb 1 with the home H&R Block software. We've done this the last 7 yer no problem. We got a notice it would have to wait because of the education credits. We received notice it was accepted Feb 14. The "where's my refund" bar never moved, just said the refund would be deposited in up to 21 days (March 6). Now the bar is gone and the message is there. Sigh- and like many of you I have a Disney balance due. My cruise balance is due April 9.

Any ideas about any of us who filed during that time that did not have education credits? We filed I believe on 2/22, no education credits, we went through our private tax accountant...until two days ago now it had the status bar. Two days ago it went to the saying "Still being Processed", will post a date when it is available.

Sorry, I am excited to pull the string to go to Disney, but I am starting to feel like I should just forget it. All the money we are supposed to have coming in, and none of it is coming through (Tax return for 2011; Tax return for 2012; State Tax return; Car Accident settlement)....

I am going to go pull our tax return and see if anything could be missing. I know our return was about 2x what we expected it to be (hubby is taking almost no federal deductions out of his paycheck, so was expecting lots of money to be owed).

Haven't heard about these. I will say, though, with my own return - mine said "still processing" until about the day before it was deposited. My brother's took a few days longer than I expected it too, as well.

I think they're more backed up than they want to admit, personally.

Thanks, a deposit date just appeared today....for Wednesday. At least it is one bright spot on this sad day.

Just wondering if you've gotten DDD yet? We are STILL waiting for a date. I'm so frustrated now. Never could I have imagined having such issues using H R Block.

Nope - as of 5 minutes ago, still nothing. No direct deposit date, no pending deposit in my account....

I am so sorry. I keep hoping that I will see others dealing with what we are getting dates. I have been following on H&R Block's Facebook page and it is filled with nothing but outrage. I am trying to keep calm about the situation, but I am about at my limit. If I could even see a deposit date that was 3 weeks from now, I'd be content with that. It's the not knowing that has me on edge. This is our first year with the education credits. I never ever could have imagined such a circus.

*No one* imagined such a circus this year. It's been headache after headache.

If people want someone to be angry at, send a letter to your Congressmen. Ultimately it's their problem for forcing IRS and software providers to deal with so many last minute changes. Every time that happens, the tax season is a disaster. Both IRS and software providers are far from perfect, and some of these issues could have been avoided, I suspect, but when so much is thrown at once.... well, forget it.

I wanted to say that we did have the Education Credit, we had our taxes done at H&R Block and we have received our refund. The taxes were filed on March 21st and we had the refund DD in our account basically by the end of the next week. I was somewhat surprised after I had been following this thread.

I'm still in limbo but I filed with Taxact? I'm going to call tomorrow. I'm at 5 weeks wednesday since I filed.

ETA actually its longer since I filed its been 5 weeks since I was accepted and almost 7 since I filed.

Time travel much? :) I assume you mean February 21st.

That's not surprising - that's the tail end of the week when they were having problems. Plus - it wasn't *all* education credits, just the American Opportunity credit.

Kind of makes you long for the day when you didn't have the ability to find out when your refund was coming, doesn't it?

I swear, knowing that it's hung up somewhere is worse than the waiting for it to come in the mail that we went through back-in-the-day.

I agree with your statement. I hate the fact that I know my tax forms are just "sitting" somewhere because of a glitch. I had planned to have DW's SUV paid off and a credit card paid off. We are in the process of getting our house ready to put on the market and I had hoped to take some of the refund to put towards some little things that I wanted done. Guess that too will be on hold. We all have our reasons why we wanted the money. I will continue to try to be optimistic, but it's getting very hard to be.

Still in limbo. Call HRBlock this morning. The woman would not/could not tell me anything. I was asking for a refund for the $282 that I paid them. The only thing she would tell me was to go to the IRS website. :confused3

We are in the same boat with you... I have been claiming the ed credit since our eldest went to school.... and it's nuts.. now we have 2 ed credits we claim(2 college kids).. Like I told my DH there is nothing I can do but wait it out... but reading the facebook page, I told my DH was addicting because it's a three ring circus and you just read to see what the next act is going to be.

I'm just disappointed by the lack of communication...

Hopefullly we will all hear something good soon... I just want my money in time to pay for tuition in August!

When this first began and others started getting their ed credit returns quickly I told DH that our return did not go LEFT like we do at Disney... What was it thinking?? :rolleyes2

I filed on the 5th of March - with Education Credits - and I have both deposits back already (1 week!!!). It is really messed up that people who filed weeks/months prior to me are still waiting.

I agree with a pp - contact your congress-person. What a joke.

The problem is with returns that were efiled between Feb 14 and Feb 22.

I should note that my state refund was deposited on Feb 15. So, at least I know it's only the American Opportunity Education Credit that's the issue. I noticed that the Where's My Refund site doesn't list the refund amount for me anymore.

I have not yet received a letter from the IRS about the issue that some people have received. I haven't received the email H&R block claims to have sent out. I'm just left to wonder and come up with a zillion back up plans to get the cruise paid for in time. We had planned to pay monthly installments. But that was before my daughter broke her back, then her leg and my husband had to have spinal fusion. :rotfl2: best laid plans..... man do we need a vacay!

Yes. oh, the good old days when you were excited that a paper check came in the mail and no one stole it!

Not to mention filling out the FAFSA in time.
