Tax refunds

Mine is 21 days today and no refund or dd date. We had education credits and rental income. I'm glad to see I'm not alone. If there were going to be extra delays you think they would have gotten that out in the media and not have people worrying that there were errors on their returns.

Hopefully this will be some good news for you...We filed on Feb 4 with education and rental income which we thought would be processed on Feb 14. But we had to wait until March because Turbo Tax filed it with a Passive Activity Loss Limitation, Form 8582 (even though we did not have a loss.:headache:) They finally accepted it the Monday(?) and I got my direct deposit notice today that it will be deposited on Monday. Hopefully yours will be coming soon because they are accepting all forms now.

We just got a call from our tax man! We thought that we might owe, but we're getting a big chunk of change back! Woo hoo. I am so relieved.

TurboTax said I had to mail in my returns because I had an energy credit for a new furnace. Mailed it over 3 weeks ago and so far the IRS has no record of our return but says it could take 4 weeks. I am so MAD that we couldn't efile this year and that TurboTax didn't tell me that until after I paid them.

I filed thru turbo tax with the energy credit but did not have to mail in my return?? Now I am concerned I will get a letter and a further delayed tax return........
Don't need the money but would rather have it before the sequester slows everything down.

They "say" that the IRS won't be doing anything that will slow down the refunds due to the sequester, but you are right, I'd rather have it in the bank than it sitting with the IRS.

I called the IRS this morning, was told that I am getting a letter in the mail because something on the education credit paperwork wasn't filled out fully. DH did our taxes through H&R Block's website, we usually do it by hand but we wanted a fast return. That has backfired hehe

DH went to the website, researched it a little, there was a glitch with their software and everyone who has the education credit might have an issue because those buttons weren't filled out and will get a letter from the IRS telling them to fix it. So it looks like we paid a chunk of cash to have them do it and because we did, our return is now postponed for at least a few weeks. The IRS agent I talked to said that it could take up to 2 weeks for us to even get the letter to fix the problem, so we're probably looking at another month at least before we get our money. GRRRRRRR

DH said that once our refund is received in our hands, he is calling H&R Block for a refund from them for the cost of the software. I don't know if that helps anyone, sorry it's so long.
Well that might explain our delay too. You would think H & R Block would be aware of the situation and alert their customers of the problem and that there could be issues.

H&R Block is confirming the error with the software with the Education Credits on their Facebook page. Looks like we will be waiting quite a bit longer for refunds.

Last nights update have me a dd date of march 12!! Yay!!!
Energy credit, education credit and mortgage interest, turbo tax filed. Was accepted 3/4. 8 day turn around=awesome!!!!!

We are one of the unlucky H&R Block customers that had education credits.....will be in limbo for who knows how long.......VERY Frustrated!

is it only h&r block with the mistake? I used taxact and I see nothing on their pages about the mistake... *crossing fingers*

ETA does anyone have a # for the IRS... I looked on their page and there are a few on there. If you've called what one did you use? I was able to order my transcripts last week so I'm hoping they come soon and they have some kind of info on them... still no DD date for me or any change on WMR. I hope I dont have to wait until June for this but there isn't much I can do about it if I do... I'm so glad I filed early lol

By the way, if your "Wheres My Refund" page went from the progression bars to just a message saying you are being processed, it is in the errors department now. Some are saying you will get a letter in two weeks and a paper to correct mistakes and others are saying the IRS is going to let the mistakes through and process the return. The problem is HRB software put blanks where there should be a "No" in certain boxes, as this was the old format that the IRS accepted, but now the "No" must be checked or it is considered and error. So it's all HRB fault. :confused3

This is just great!! :furious: I have to pay off my ressie by Mar 20th and now I am finding out I may not even get my return back by then. What will I have to do with Disney? Cancel? and hope there is availability when I finally get it? Plus to get the Spring discount.. you have to book by Mar 31. If it doesn't come by then, don't know if we could afford to go......:(

UGH. We didn't go through HRB, we went through a private tax accountant (paid good money for him to do it too)....my return went from the progression bars to just a message saying it is being processed.

I am not seeing anything on my return like what you are describing....*sigh* I knew things were going too good this year...now when I want to book, none of the money we are supposed to get is coming through. *sigh*

My moms return went from progress bars to in processing and still says the same message now even thought she got her check 2 weeks ago!! Mine actually said they had no record of my refund the day before I got my direct deposit! It seems the IRS is having issues this year...

Ours went from the progress bar to saying our saying it wasn't found. Turbo tax says it has been accepted. I have no idea what is going on.

I realize I had zero credibility on this board, but I do work closely with IRS as part of a VITA (free tax prep program).

Here's what we've been hearing.

It's affecting nearly all tax preparers who e-file - not just Block. We use another provider and are also experiencing this problem.

It seems to mostly be affecting returns filed from February 14 - 22nd.

It also seems to only be affecting the American Opportunity Credit, not the Lifetime Learning Credit (I can attest to that - I filed 2/14 with an LLC and have had my refund for a week and a half).

The problem is that three of the new questions - about whether the kid has a felony drug arrest, and two others - were not carrying through to IRS' processing system. We had them filled out on our end, in our software - but somewhere in the "sending over to IRS" process, those answers vanished.

We had a call with IRS and our software provider on Wednesday that said "we're looking into it". There's basically nothing anyone can do at this point but wait. They haven't even figured out whose "fault" it is - although, personally, since it's more than one software provider, I blame IRS.

Not good news for a filing season rife with problems already.

is it good news for me, bad news or no news if I was able to order my transcripts? I got them in the mail today. On my transcript it says Education Credit per computer $XXX and then under it Gross Education Credit per computer which is about 200$ more but then in the total its back to the first figure at $663 :confused3 I would have seriously just filed an amendment if I knew this was going to be such a hassle over 600$

No clue, honestly - IRS error processing is a complete mystery to just about everyone. That *seems* like it should be reasonably good news, because it sounds like it's theoretically processed - but they *may* still hold the refund if they got the return without those questions answered.

Any ideas about any of us who filed during that time that did not have education credits? We filed I believe on 2/22, no education credits, we went through our private tax accountant...until two days ago now it had the status bar. Two days ago it went to the saying "Still being Processed", will post a date when it is available.

Sorry, I am excited to pull the string to go to Disney, but I am starting to feel like I should just forget it. All the money we are supposed to have coming in, and none of it is coming through (Tax return for 2011; Tax return for 2012; State Tax return; Car Accident settlement)....

I am going to go pull our tax return and see if anything could be missing. I know our return was about 2x what we expected it to be (hubby is taking almost no federal deductions out of his paycheck, so was expecting lots of money to be owed).
