I have a question for those of you who get to claim the student loan interest deduction on your taxes.

Do you actually have to submit the 1098-E form (interest statement) with your return? I haven't gotten mine yet, but I was able to get the exact amount of my interest paid when I called the US Dpt of Ed.

I can't remember if I had to submit the form along with it last year or not!

No, just keep it with your copies of everything in case you ever get audited.

Thanks. :) I'm ready to go ahead and send in my returns but wasn't sure if I should wait for that form or not.

Nope. You don't need to attach it, but if you'd like it for your own records, you can print it out from the Dept of Education website. That's what I did so I could finish my return.
