oh
my
word.

The "newest" wal-mart in my area is officialy TRASHED now. (wow - only took 3 years to get it so crapped up to the point i refuse to step foot in it now.)

I just ran in to get ONE thing last night...I was so disgusted with the state of the store, that I just left and bought what I needed elsewhere. (the "back to school" aisle was the WORST)

I overheard people - buying clothes - saying "this is great, no tax!"

um...clothes under $50 in the state of CT have ALWAYS been tax-free... how many articles of clothing (except jackets maybe) are over $50 at wal-mart?

as much as I'd love to take advantage of tax-free-week...I just don't want to fight the crowds...

Stinkerbelle, I have never really understood the appeal of tax free week. Like you said under 50.00 is always tax free anyway. What am I going to purchase for my DS8 and DS 11 that is more than that? I won't even buy things for myself that are more than $50.00 a piece. We did buy DH a suit one year just to save the tax. Happy back to school shopping for everyone. ( now all I need is the letters from the schools)

well - basically it's good if you are looking to buy pricey sneakers, winter coats, fancy dresses, jeans at the gap. (hehehe - cause most of them are over $50! heheh)

I think THAT'S the appeal behind it...but you say "tax free" and it starts a shopping frenzy...heheheh

I think it gets the consumers out, thinking they'll save a few bucks in 'tax'...but in the long run, you end up buying more anyway I bet.

I think tax free week is beneficial. I mean saving 6% is saving 6% no matter how ya look at it.

DH went to BOB's yesterday and purchased new sneakers, workboots, 3 t-shirts and 1 sweatshirt and saved $20 in taxes and he received an extra 10% off for his municipal employee discount. He made out really well.

I already have been taking the kids back to school shopping the past few Fridays, Kohls, the mall, staples, etc. The only thing we have left is new sneakers which we'll get this week. We've spent about $100 in clothing for each kid, $60 or so at Staples and then whatever else we spent with sneakers. If I waited until tax free week I probably would of gotten away cheaper, but I really cannot stand last minute back to school shopping with lots of people. We do it at our own pace.

As they get older it does get expensive and tax free week probably really helps out a lot of families who have more than 1 kid. ::yes::
