Okay so I've been waiting for my tax booklet in the mail....

Does anyone know if they have stopped mailing them out? I am talking about the Federal Tax book.

Thanks!

My understanding is that they are no longer mailed automatically. If you want one, there is a place at the IRS website where you can order one.

Yes, they have stopped mailing them. I think they want to encourage everyone to efile, so they stopped sending out the booklets.

Glad to see that we're not paying taxes to pay for the sending out of tax forms that people may not end up using! :rotfl:

I didn't think they'd mailed them for several years. We have used Turbo Tax for a long time. The post office used to have all the forms. I wonder if they still do.

Last year only my local library had the forms/booklets. You can download and print anything you want from irs.gov. It also has links for free efiles. I use taxact.com and I think it's like $18 to efile fed and state.

For some years, I believe, they were sending tax booklets to folks who filed via paper forms, or perhaps only those who filed via the paper forms that came in the booklets.

Believe it or not at one time, no one had the internet.:rotfl:

And the reality is, there are still a lot of people who file paper returns either because they don't want to pay for Turbo Tax, aren't aware they can file for free with the IRS if they only need the simple form, or don't like/use the internet or a computer. Yes, there are still people who don't. My MIL has never used a computer and she's afraid of them. My FIL has one, but she's afraid of it and he doesn't like anyone else touching his stuff.:confused3

Indeed, and we were stuck using much less efficient and costly measures for many things. It won't be that many more decades before an end to the lingering deference to folks who insist on sticking with the antiquated - insist on refusing to even go to the local library to use (or refusing to adequately fund the local library to support) public Internet terminals.
