I received an email today telling me that the Disney Store in the Silver City Galleria in Taunton, MA is closing on or before April 24, 2010. I'll certainly miss this store but my feelings on this is that the merchandise has become increasingly of poorer quality and substance. There is more and more junk and inexpensive toys rather than merchandise that appealed to adults that were interested in spending money on good quality.....JMHO.

I went to see if there were any good deals and sadly all the good quality stuff was shipped out it appears. I did get some pjs and a bathing suit super cheap for my DD. I might check it out again in a few weeks. My DD will be sad it's gone.

I'm sad too. I'll miss my Disney fix between trips. This is the last Disney store in the area that had the "original" set up. My DH wants to buy the displays. I wonder if Attleboro or Braintree will close also.

I received an e-mail this week that said the same about my local Disney store in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I am a little bummed, because it was a fun store to go into. I wonder how many they are closing in this new round of closings?

Hey OP -- I'm in Somerset too! My kids are a little beyond the clothes there but I used to go there all the time. Sad!

Even though their selection has been severely limited the past few years, I loved this store. I would always find an excuse to stop in whenever I was in the Galleria. I have no kids, so it more often than not had little to offer me personally, but every once and a while I could find something cool.
I bought some Christmas decorations this past year, and about a year ago I scored an awesome Oswald the Lucky Rabbit painting for pretty cheap. I'll most certainly miss it. Not as much as I miss the one in Boston's Quincy Market, however...

I am wondering if Marlboro will close. It is never busy in there and now there is a new store at Natick Collection.

I walked into Marlboro today and walked out with nothing. Girls pj's only up to a 6, they run so small my 4yo would be busting out of the top! They were 2 for $20 and quality was lousy, went to Gymbo and got spring ones that are much better in quality for $15.99 on sale and had a 20% coupon.

Now that Disney Store doesn't sell Disney Dollars in the store, I can get gift cards from Walgreens (anything $15 and up), and DD is quickly outgrowing their clothes I don't have much of a reason to go anymore!

I still miss the Disney Gallery on Rt 9 in front of Natick Mall (before they turned the art Gallery into a stuffed animal room!) When that store first opened they had some awesome things like fine China and Nicole Miller Disney bags.

The two disney stores that are close to me are so different -- the one at Square One Mall in Saugus is old-style, and the new one at North Shore Mall in Peabody is the new model. I prefer the old style! And I do agree about the merchandise -- the quality has definitely gone down. I was kind of sad to go in the new-style store. I'm sure the store in Saugus won't last long (that Mall is horrid in general), and for a 10 minute ride I can be at a mall with many more stores and options...The disney store used to be a "most stop" at the mall, heck, sometimes I'd go just because I was filling a stocking or Easter basket. Now, I really don't find much, and it's definitely not worth a special trip.

DisneyandRedSox....I, too, miss the Gallery store in Natick. I made the trip, from Someret, once or twice per month and a couple of the CMs would call me if something they thought i was interested came in. That's service....the Swarovski jewelry and the collectibles and china were of superior quality. I didn't mind the trip knowing what I was going to see. Their art offerings were awesome!! I don't remember the last time I made a special trip to the DS....if I was in the mall I'd stop in. Too bad....I don't think Disney made good choices with their stores.

Funny you say this... Natick just got a new store and I can't stand the design, it is all white with fabric hanging from the walls- almost sterlie looking. I heard they are going to completely redo the Disney Stores, it is almost as if they didn't put any design into the new store b/c they will have a new style soon.

Here is an article I just found:

This is sad. But I have to say I was in this store about two months ago. The didn't have much just alot of cheap type knick knacks. So where is the next closest disney store in the area? Up towards Boston?

Hi SE Mass people....I am so sad that we are losing our Disney Store...I actually think that whole mall has been suffering as of late.

PS....I am in Somerset too. :thumbsup2

Next closest store would be at the Emerald Square Mall in North Attleboro. It's a newer one and looks nothing like the older, traditional, stores.

Wow!!! I would love to shop in that store! I really hope it all comes together as planned, that would explain the lack of anything in the current stores. :lovestruc

I live in northern Mass and go to the Disney Store in Nashua, NH (old design) and Burlington, MA (new white design). I have found the Burlington store terrible since it reopened in the old Express location. Nashua is much smaller but has a better selection of merchandise. I always find something in Nashua and leave Burlington empty handed.

When I was talking to a CM in Nashua, she told me that Disney is in the process of redesigning the stores and they will not be ready to roll out the new layouts for several more months. Any stores that have moved/opened recently are the white, simple set-up because the new plans are not ready.

I miss the large store that was out in Framingham too. Loved that one. I also miss the one that was in Fanuel Hall. There was just something fun about walking up the stairs with the sorcerer brooms walking up next to you!

I haven't bought anything in a Disney Store (besides passes) in years! I often still wander into ours to see if anything has changed but I never find anything.

I hope that the redesign includes something for everyone.

Hi!! :wave2:

Found this after doing a search for Taunton - to see if there are any others on here close by and found a ton!

Sad to do that search though and find out our store is closing, I def. always make a beeline for it if I am at the galleria - though that is about once a year so I can see why they are closing. I typically just head into Providence.

Anyone in any sort of local disney meetup or whatnot?

Hard to trust the NY Times a lot but if what is in this article is true, the new stores will be amazing :thumbsup2

Thanks to this thread, I went over the weekend and got a lot of stuff. A woman was there that had been there a couple of days before and couldn't believe how much stuff was already sold. I got my DD7 shoes for her Belle and Aurora dresses for $3 each, my DD2 got the most with some sneakers, a hat, and a Dalmation stuffed animal. I asked where the closest store to there was and they gave me a 15% coupon for either the Emeral Square Mall in N. Attleboro or the South Shore Plaza in Braintree.
