While I wouldn't want to have to explain some tattoos to my littles (Well, honey, zombies are dead people, but they aren't really dead...
), seeing things that we may not approve of is a part of life. I find some people's clothing choices much more offensive and harder to avoid seeing than pretty much any tattoo.
Like anything, use your judgment. If you know your tattoo is deliberately offensive, it would be thoughtful of others to cover it up on a family cruise. Or save your shirt with the disgusting slogan and art work for a spring break party cruise (thank you very much!). And we parents will do our part in diverting attention away from whatever we don't want our kids to see without making anyone feel ashamed or uncomfortable about their body art. It's different for every person, so just be yourself.
Coincidentally, we are doing a tattoo-themed series at church. I can't believe how taboo the idea of tattoos still is!
