Tasteless commercials

In the past month I’ve seen two commercials involving suicide. One was a car commercial in which a less than perfect machine envisions himself [machine him?] jumping off a bridge. Just now I saw a WaMu ad where the bankers are planning on jumping off a building. What is up with these kinds of commercials? Is our society so hardened that using something so tragic to push a product is okay? Is anyone else bothered by these kinds of ads?

I am sensitive to your views, but I am not bothered by these ads.

I don't know....I grew up during the Wile E. Coyote stage....it doesn't bother me.

I don't take much of what I see on TV seriously so it doesn't really bother me. However I can see where it might bother someone else.

This is also why I love my TiVO, if I don't like the commercal I don't have to watch it.

I had a family member attempt suicide recently so when I saw both of those commercials I was uncomfortable with them. I keep thinking what it must be like for my family member to see things like this in such a joking manner.

I saw a commercial for KY Jelly either on the Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon recently. While a commercial of this nature does not bother me I thought it was inappropriate for the channel it was on considering the audience.

I also grew up during the Wile E. Cayote era. And YES THese commercials bother me. I saw one for Slacks Hoagie shacks involving the execution room of a prison. (what does the exectution room have to do with hoagies...mm mm makes me want to eat there! (note the sarcasm). Too bad to becuase I've heard slacks is pretty good. I'm also offended by the Herbal Essence commercials where the woman is taken to "extreme hieghts of pleasure" from shampooing her head. This commercial airs on the most innapropriate of channels. Again this is to bad because the shampoo actually smells really really good.

TV shows tend to glorify things like this way more than a 30 second commercial and yet they still bring in the ratings. I'm not sure how a commercial would be considered tasteless yet various shows/movies are left alone. My only problem would be the time/channel they choose to air it on.

I can see how someone could be put off. A friend of mine was infuriated by "Tombstone" Pizza. Even wrote them a nasty letter (and got a bunch of coupons in return, which ticked her off even more.:lmao: )

But if we can't joke about anything that might upset someone, there would be nothing left to joke about.

I thought I read somewhere that the robot commercial and the one where the guy is ready to jump off a bridge until he sees a new "affordable" VW are going to be pulled. I wish I could remember where I saw it. It had something to do with the suicide watch groups really jumping on the companies for it. I know the robot commercail made me sad. I felt bad for that silly machine!!!

They don't bother me. With my dvr, I hardly ever watch commercials anymore.

OMG....who has seen the Soft & Dry commercial? :faint: That's the one that blows my mind.

I don't like the Vehix commercial showing how fun it is for 4 teenagers to get out of the car and run around at a red light..... no where in that commercial does it say to no do this.
Now Mazda has a similar one, but that shows an ENTIRE family (dog included) doing this.
