Disney's Tarzan will swing into the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 W. 46th Street) for its first preview on March 24th before opening on May 10th.

The production will star Josh Strickland as Tarzan, Jenn Gambatese as Jane, Merle Dandridge as Kala, Shuler Hensley as Kerchak, Chester Gregory II as Terk, Timothy Jerome as Professor Porter and Donnie Keshawarz as Clayton. Daniel Manche and Alex Rutherford will alternate in the role of Young Tarzan.

Two-time Tony Award-winner Bob Crowley (Aida, Carousel), will direct and design scenery and costumes for Tarzan. Oscar- and seven-time Grammy Award-winner Phil Collins has written the music and lyrics, expanding his songs for Disney’s film into a complete theatre score. Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) has written the book, based on the novel, Tarzan of the Apes, by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and the film Tarzan.

Choreography is by Meryl Tankard, with aerial design by Pichón Baldinu (De La Guarda). Lighting design is by Tony Award-winner Natasha Katz (Aida) and sound design is by John Shivers. Other members of the creative team include Paul Bogaev (music producer/vocal arrangements) and Doug Besterman (orchestrations).

The creative team for Tarzan has re-imagined, and in some cases, reinvented characters from the original Edgar Rice Burroughs novel, and Disney’s animated film,” commented Thomas Schumacher, President of Disney Theatrical Productions. “We hope to bring a fresh perspective to the Tarzan legend, and we think that we have found a wonderful cast to make these roles their own.”

I'm going to see this in July. Ordered my tickets a couple of days ago. :)

But be warned: there are visibility issues ... some seats near the rear of the orchestra section have seriously obstructed views, and you may not be able to see some of the aerial acrobatics.

Advice: double-check your tickets to see if they are labeled "obstructed view" -- and if you can, avoid buying those in the first place!

I can't wait. I am going next month (May). I am going to a Sunday 3:00 p.m. show and after hopefully eating at Carmines.

Carmines is great! Portions are HUGE!!! 3 people can eat off one dinner.

Seen Tarzan this past Wednesday. see my reviews on community board.

Good Show! dancing incredible..vigourous show...
but not quite up to par with B&B , Aida and the best show ever Lion King,

Sets could of been better. think Disney cheaped out on this as well as costumes.

Special effects fantastic, score wonderful....

if you got tkts, you will enjoy. thankfully, I paid preview price of $65.

Don't worry about where you sit unless it is in the last 10 rows of orchestra and even then not so bad.

I don't think the small arieal showings made that much of a differenc on where you sat.

Granted mezzanine is better but if you have orchestra, you will still enjoy and see the entire show.

any questions, will be happy to answer

HEY!!!

Mary Popppins flies in October 2006

I will go and check out your review. I go to broadway twice a year and I still haven't eaten at Carmines. Everytime I try the wait is too long. There is only three of us, so I will keep that in mind.

I've seen both Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King. I actually liked Beauty better. However, my all time favoriate so far is Wicked. I saw it twice and want to go again.

Thanks again,

Steve.

Seen wicked myself and not anywhere near my all time favorite.. Only say that because I see our taste differs. So please take my review with a grain of salt. You may adore Tarzan and I hope so!!

I personally love Hairspray and the Producers. my two big favorites so far.

also loved Little Women which they took off after only 6 mos. so go figure...

did you see wicked with original cast?? I did ..loved loved storyline ...found songs kinda drab.. dismal,,,with the exception of "defying gravity" gave me chills....and which also made me vote with at thumgs up for show.... Ms. Menzel was beyond the best vocal I have ever heard. but normally
guess I like that stupid non sensical upbeat romantic comedies....

have fun!

you know there is another carmines on the other side of town that I heard is easier to get into.

get the tiramusi for dessert(yum) as big as an apple pie. and we loved the angel hair with lemon/ wine sauce with mushrooms...

mmmm

Your review wasn't that bad. Even the plays that weren't that great, I still love broadway. It's a real treat for us. Going to the City is a great day. Thanks for the info on Carmines, I never knew there were two. Where is the second one?

The last time I went to Broadway we ate at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory. It was pretty good, but we want to go somewhere else. Was also thinking about the Hard Rock Cafe.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks.

Other carmines is on upper west side. go to website ..believe it is carminesnyc.com

How many people are going in your party? Kids as well. If boys, my son always liked ESPN Zone.
Took my daughter to Hard Rock for her 16th birthday. we had fun. Both these places have okay food nothing spectacular. Planet Hollywood as well as Mars 2112 all have same type of food.

You might want to consider Stardust Diner. All the waiters and waitressess sing most of the time. If is a fun place.
PM me if you would like any more info. I love Broadway and try to grab a show whenever I can. Hopefully, I can help you with your choices.

Next weekend we go see Jersey Boys. I have heard it is the best musical this year.

Have fun!
