Excuse my ignorance , but I live in Canada and don't have a Target store where I live, but there are plenty of Wal Marts. I have heard Target is the better store. Is this true? What does Target sell that Wal Mart doesn't? Are there any other differences? TIA.

They pretty much sell the same catagories of items, but IMO, Target has a better selection at slightly higher prices. Especially when it comes to home goods. It depends on what I need as to where I shop. If it's stuff for the house, I stop at Target. If it's cheap stuff for school.....walmart.

What they sell is really similar. When they first open Target had much better customer service then Walmart but lately they have gone downhill some and it really just depends on the area you live in which one is better. When I was in college (a bit over a year ago) that area had a some really good Target stores adn the Walmarts were awful (like stick to the floor dirty and employees will walk away from you so they don't have to work).

Now the area I live in now the Walmarts are much better, they were recently renovated have always been clean and have a decent amount of staff. If my husband didn't work at Target (making us not really need to find employees to ask questions or need much service apart from ringing us up) we would much rather shop at Walmart around here since our Target tends to have 3 people on the entire sales floor most of the time... so you can never find anyone.

Oh and alot of people don't like Target for clothes since they have almost no Women's plus size stuff. Like the entire plus size and maternaty sections combined at my husbands store take up less space then the guys shirts.

I personally prefer Target for most everything. The only time I choose Walmart is if Target didn't have it or sometimes if I need a lot of paper products like plates, cups.... their prices are a tad bit better at Walmart. Target now, has awesome Clearance and I can find some great deals on almost everything. :cool1:

And Target lets you stack coupons. You can use a Target coupon and a Manufacturer coupon on the same item, sometimes making it very inexpensive or even free!

I never buy clothes at Walmart. They shrink right away and are of poor quality in my opinion. But, that's just me.

They more or less sell the same things but Wal Mart usually has the better prices.

HOWEVER, in my area of NJ, the WalMarts here are extremely disorganized, 90% of the workers are inconsiderate or speak little English and have been given the title "Pit of Despair" :sad2: I shop at WalMart solely for cheap seasonal soccer practice clothes for the kids and plastic bags and stuff like that.

Target, while priced around the same as my favored grocery store, is better organized, staff is friendly and I find many more deals on "name brand" items.

walmarts considers $1 off a $30 item a clearance but I have bought carseats at Target at 50% off including my most recent find - Graco Nautilus for $77.50 Target also has some awesome toy clearances too. I buy groceries at Walmart, most everything else at Target. Walmarts grocery prices are better as is their grocery selection. But these are Super Walmarts I am talking about.

Target stores tend to cleaner than Walmart stores. Target carries higher quality items and is cheaper to shop at in the long run. Walmart has their sale items which are discounted but overall you spend more money at Walmart. When we used to live in an area where Walmart was the only store available within 30 miles, we shopped there. Often the items were past their shelf date. Once shopping on the internet became available we no longer shopped at Walmart. Now we live in an area where we have choices of stores, including several Targets. :)

A biggie for me, Target is a better employer than Walmart, engages in less discrimination, treats their employees better and pays them better than Walmart (this info came from several friends who have worked at both Target and Walmart).

My only complaint with Target is their plastic bags. Apparently they have never watched the documentary “The Disappearing Male”.

We go to Walmart at the most once a year. There are two near us and they are so horrid. Nothing will ruin your day faster than walking into those stores. We had to go 2 days ago because DD had a gift card and we could get out of their fast enough.

I can find almost everything I need at Target for great prices and a better shopping experience.

Target is 100x better! The stores are cleaner, the clothes are much nicer and the staff is much better! I love Target, I only visit our nasty Walmart in a real pinch.

Check out the Target website for shoes and clothes, then go look at Walmarts.

I rarely go to walmart. I just can't stand it. The stores are always a mess, etc. I don't mind shopping online walmart though.
Target can be more expensive, but I look at their weekly ad and shop the sales! I shop their clearance stuff too and often find good deals.

I agree with the above. In my area, the Target is clean, well-organized, and over half of the employees are friendly and courteous. The Wal-Mart near me is dirty, crowded, difficult to navigate, and has a majority of employees that would rather stand around and chat then actually help a customer with anything, including check out. That's how it is in my area, so I shop exclusively at Target even though it's a little bit farther from my house. I'm sure there must be Wal-Mart stores elsewhere that are fine, but by my house, not so much.

My dh works at walmart, and we dont shop there!! They have redone all the stores here, took out the craft departments, made the store more target-ized, but they will never be Target. Now the manager from target now runs walmart, now they have to wear uniform like clothes, the itmes are on easy to reach shelves, just like Target, i find Target brand things(market pantry and up and up) to be wayyy better. These days walmart has not had anything i go there for!! They are having issues with someone, and not getting there stuff on the shelves! Its just so much easier, even if i have to pay a bit more, to go to Target, be treated a lot nicer, get the things i need, and have a nice, clean , pleasant shopping experience!!!:thumbsup2

To the OP.. Walmart is He$$ on earth compared to Target..:lmao: I CANNOT stand the place and do my best clipping coupons like a mad women to avoid the place.. They sell all the same things but Target is cleaner, they actually have people that are around on the floor to help if you need it. BUT the biggest reason why I hate Walmart, besides one day that they will take over the world is how they treat their employees.. They treat them like CRUD...I have worked for both Target AND walmart( when I was a teen) and the difference is night and day.

Fellow Canadian here - Target is like our Zellers - they carry the same brand of clothing and snack items.

In my experience Target has better prices on everything, except some food items. I shop almost on a daily basis and it's AMAZING how much cheaper things are at Target. Especially TOYS! Few home goods are cheaper if not the same as Target. Clothes, well Wal-Mart does not compare. The quality outbeats the SLIGHTLY higher prices. If you shop smart you can find great coupons for Target unlike Wal-Mart. I'm not a Wal-Mart hater, just find shopping at Target less expensive.

Target is MUCH better. Cleaner, better organized, higher quality, etc. Wal-Mart is a pinch better on prices but Target price shops about 1000 items with Wal-Mart and is always within one or two PENNIES in price.

Go to Target.

I find it funny when people see Walmart as cheaper. Walmart is really good at the psychology of it all... You will find an item marked $1.88 at Walmart- it will be $1.99 at Target, but Target will clearance it a month later for $.99 with no signs and Walmart will clearance it for $1.87 with a HUGE flag and poster announcing the sale... plus Target accepts way more coupons.

Target also has a better quality of items. Walmart does this thing where even with name brand items, they make a deal that the company will alter the product to specifically make one that retails for less at Walmart. They contract to get a lower quality product that is ONLY available in their stores... then they compare it to the regular ones. Some companies do not do business with Walmart because they refuse to lower their product and smear their names for them. My mom bought a crock pot there a couple years ago and after a couple months the lid cracked in half while she was using it (maybe about the 3rd use) when she called customer service they were really helpful until they got the model. They do not replace parts or even offer to sell the replacement parts for the Walmart models!
I thought this was just something crazy people said until I started looking into it, but if you shop home products at Walmart you will find everything is a tad "different"... different sizes (ie. 10 cup processor rather than 12), different warranty, sometimes different packaging.

In my experience, we find Walmarts to be dirty, crowded and usually messy (although the new ones in our area are somewhat better) while Target is cleaner with a bigger selection and quality of items. I find great deals at Target all the time and I love the dollar spot! IMO without a doubt, Target is better. :goodvibes

Go to Target!! Their name brand "Up & Up" stuff is pretty good.

Target has style! They have guest high end designers create lines of affordable clothing and housewares, and the stores are designed well. Wal-mart is a warehouse type store. Cheap stuff, in bulk, wide aisles, etc. Target is usually slightly more expensive than Walmart, but still cheaper than most dept stores. Target stuff is much, much cuter and better made. If Target was open 24 hours like Wal-mart is, I'd do all my shopping there!
