Target Toy Clearance Tip

I've been watching the K'nex Rippin' Rocking Roller Coaster at my Target since Christmas. It went to 50% off ($37) and just stayed put. Our store had lots of them so I waited patiently. Yesterday I called to check and the lady told me that the clearance toys were GONE and that they had been "sent to salvage". Today my mother found them at Goodwill for $15!!!!!!!! Not sure how other Targets handle this but we have found several great Target items at Goodwill over the years. It might be worth a check at your local Goodwill or Salvation Army stores.

I used to be a manager in a department store a few years ago and when we sent something to "salvage" that generally meant that it was either destroyed (usually broken items) or sent directly back to the company because the company would give the store credit for the items that were accounted for.

Target has always sent their stuff to goodwill. When it gets below their set profit margin they zero it out and donate it and use the tax write offs. At least this is what I have been told by friends in management at Target. I've NEVER been lucky enough to find any of their stuff at goodwill. :confused3

I see stuff at Goodwill all the time from Target.

I am bummed, however, because many of the toys went to 50%, and then never got lower, and were then pulled off the floor. They were never at 75% off. I was watching an Imagenxt set that went to $17, and then never lower. I was going to send it to my nephew, but wanted it at 75% off, because the shipping would be expensive.

Oh well.......

Wow. That's pretty interesting. If they buy something for 20 to sell for 40. It makes more sense to give it away and claim the 20 (or 40?) tax deductable donation rather than to sell it for cheaper. I've never thought about that before.

It must vary by store, because I actually bought two of the Knex roller coasters about a month ago for 75% off (around $19.00 each) at Target. I know that they did have an entire aisle full of other toys that never made it to 75% off, but most of them were purchased at 50% off.

I was able to buy three of them @ $20 from our local Target and put them up for birthday presents.

Note to self: Check Target on way to work monday. GS's would love these.

the problem I have found about the target items at goodwill is that they are usually close to the retail price when they sell them there. I know last summer when they marked the swim suits down, I got DS one for around $3. A few weeks later goodwill had the same suits and they were on a rack marked NEW ITEMS and the suits were $6.00.

Thanks for the post. I've been waiting for our Target to go to 75%. Now I know where to check if the toys disappear! I've found some good prices on toys at our Goodwill Superstore before and I wondered where they came from.

A lot of the toys around here went salvage at 50% this year. They have been gone for a week. Some were marked down, others were not. I have seen Target stuff at Goodwill, but usually it's a lot higher than Target's clearanced price.
