Target surprise...

I don't like Targhetto (bad experiences at the one near my house), but politics are part of any big business.

While the GLBT market is a big money-maker, the fact of the matter is that the fundamentalist market is even bigger. Any large company is going to try and woo both sides. Just look at Disney, they make large contributions to the Florida GOP (we are after all a red state), and host the "Night of Joy" as a Disney-run event.

Then there is Gaydays, and while Disney doesn't officially support it, the company has always shown that they appreciate it and have shown indirect ways to support the events, including contributions from some of their subsidiary companies.

It is my feeling that Target gave money to MN Forward because they felt it would advance their corporate/business agenda, not because they were looking to enable an anti-LGBT candidate.

And, Tolliver is cuter. But I might be slightly biased.

Blather on, all you like.

Tolliver is the most fabulous. I don't need to argue the point with you, it's a fact. No argument needed. :thumbsup2

Tolliver isn't agressive. He's a good watch dog, though.

And he's the most fabulous regardless! :thumbsup2

Over promotion is so sad when it
reaches this desperate state.

My partner works for Target and I can tell you with certainty that they are very supportive not only of GLBT causes but of their GLBT employees. So I would ask that you not react too quickly to this news.

I sent an e-mail to Target and this is the responce I got back from them.

Dear Nicholas Shackelford,

Target has long believed that engaging in civic activities is an important and
necessary element of operating a national retail business. What's more important
than any one candidate's stance on a particular issue is how we nurture
thoughtful, long-term growth in the state of Minnesota.

To continue to grow and create jobs and opportunity in our home state, we
believe it is imperative to be engaged in public policy and the political
process. That is why we are members of organizations like the Minnesota Business
Partnership, the Chamber of Commerce and many others. And that is why we decided
to contribute to MN Forward.

MN Forward's objective is to elect candidates from both parties who will make
job creation and economic growth a top priority. We operate best when working
collaboratively with legislators on both sides of the aisle. In fact, if you
look at our Federal PAC contributions year to date, you will see that they are
very balanced between Republicans and Democrats. For more information please
visit www.target.com/company, and view the Civic Activity page.

Target has a large stake in Minnesota's future, which is why it is so important
to be able to provide jobs, serve guests, support communities and deliver on our
commitment to shareholders. As an international business that is proud to call
Minnesota home, it is critical that we have a business environment that allows
us to be competitive. Our guests, team members, communities and shareholders
depend on Target to remain competitive.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Hanson

I think that's a fair answer. I know as a large company Target gives money away left and right, and I don't think they can really keep track and vet everybody that thoroughly. I was having this conversation with a VERY liberal friend, and she kep coming up with "they could's." They could hire someone to blah blah, they should do more research . . .

In today's media environment it feels like outlets are just looking for the next thing to get people outraged. The whole money trail story in this particular instance I thought was pretty flimsy.

I think it distracts from the real issues at hand, and just kind of polarizes the camps more.

By the way, I vote for Stella.

I know there where some words befor this but I don't remember them. :thumbsup2

The words you want for this situation are "The check with the money I used to bribe you into saying this will arrive at your location shortly"

:rotfl2:

And Luis is only voting for Stella because he's still mad at me over the whole Elmo nonsense.

Me, Mad? Never:mad:

Just because you killed a beloved childhood icon and got away with it? I barely even remember your slow speed getaway in the white bronco.
