I have had my Target Red Debit card for a few months and have used it a few times. I need to make a large Disney gift card purchase for an upcoming trip. Does anyone know how much the daily or weekly limits are?

Thanks!

There should be a number on your card that you can call directly to get specific information. :)

they will not be bale ot help you if you call. I just got my card and have just started using it and i too was curious about the limits. I called and was told that they have no way of knowing what the limit per account is as it is a based on purchase history and the amounts you have spent at those times. He told me that is decided by the computer. I was also told that is a larger amount did not go through then what I can do is a split pay option. That way you still get the discount. You would pay like $150 with the target debit card and then write a check or use your banks card the rest.

So if I understood what you are saying I could pay part of it with my Target card then pay the balance with a check or my regular debit card in the same transaction? And since I am using the target card for at least part of the purchase I still get the 5% discount?

Laura

If you partial pay target card with another form of payment you will only get the discount on what you spent on the Target card.

So a $200 purchase, only $100 on the target card means your discount is $5.

I thought you only got the discount on the amount used with the debit card? At least that was what it said in my paperwork when I received my card.

You can do a split pay, but as PP said the 5% discount will only be applied to the portion paid with the Red Debit Card. I just read that in the Red Card legal agreement today.

I believe their customer service can override to give you the 5% discount if you split pay due to to a decline. My suggestion would be to give them a heads up before you make the purchase--see of they can flag the acct.

Thanks everyone for your help! I will give them a call tomorrow and see what I can find out.

last week I bought 900.00 worth of gift cards to pay for our dining plan and I used my Target debit card for the entire purchase. I was told that as long as you have the money in your account it will not decline. I was also able to use my additional 5% off (after you fill 5 prescriptions you get a 5% off a day of shopping), so I paid 812.25 for 900.00 worth of gift cards!!!

The bolded part is wrong information.

They have a transaction limit, so if you are buying 2K in cards, try perhaps splitting them up into $700, $700 and $600. If yo'uve had your red card for a while perhaps you can split them up into $1K and 1K.

I have a Red Debit card. A month ago I called asking about my purchase limit. The person couldn't give me a clear answer. She said I "should" be able to make up to $1000, but couldn't promise. She said that a $500 purchase would be no issue. For safety I did a $500 purchase and it went thru with no issue. I've had my card for a year, but tend to only spend around $50-70 per visit.

They don't have a direct connect with the bank, so they can't see your balance.

If you use the Target Debit Card regularly (and have been a cardholder for awhile), you may not have a problem with limits, etc.

However, if you don't use the card regularly, or if you are applying for it for the sole purpose of buying the Disney cards with it, you may run-into some problems.

Also, be aware that your current checking account balance has no "real time" effect on the "swipe" you perform at the register, since the REDCard transaction is processed via the Automated Clearing House (ACH) and will hit your bank about 1 to 3 days after the swipe.

Best advice for those who have held the card and used it is to make a few trips spread-out over 3 or 4 days and buy about $400-$500 worth of cards at a time.

Sorry, I was just saying what was told to me when I went to my local Target and asked the manager.
