We are planning on signing up for one on the way down to Disneyland in September to get the 5% off the gift cards. My question is how many gift cards do they generally have in store? Also if we end up with a lower than desired limit how quickly can you buy again after paying off the balance? Does it post imediately?

You will need to check it out...but Target does not give a discount on gift cards. From their website:
5% discount does not apply to the following:
•Prescriptions, Target Clinic® services and Target Optical® eye exams
•Target gift cards and prepaid cards
•Previous purchases
I have had this card for a few years and never got the discount on gift cards.

I thought it did count for Disney Gift Cards, I saw several threads here and elsewhere talking about it :confused3

The 5% discount does NOT apply to pre-paid cards (the VISA/AMEX/MC gift cards) or to TARGET gift cards.

It DOES apply to gift cards from other merchants (Disney, Olive Garden, etc) because they are considered "entertainment cards". I have bought over $1000 in Disney gift cards and have always got the 5% discount when I use my Target card.

If you ask a cashier, they will often tell you that the discount does not apply. It is an automatic discount, though. If they ring up the gift card and then you pay for it with your RedCard, the discount automatically applies. I have had more than one cashier shocked to see that it discounted my Disney gift cards.

Target payments do NOT post right away, like the Kohl's card does. Paying online is the quickest way to get it posted.

I would apply online (if they allow it). When I applied for my debit card, it kicked out and they said I would have to contact the processing center in a couple of days to find out why. It turns out they had a bad file connected with me (some fraud in another state). They took it off but it ended up taking a few days to process. If there is any delay with your process, you wouldn't be able to use it that day you need to.

just a thought!

I bought my store out a couple months ago- they had $1400 at the time.

Usually they have a stack of them by the front register- probably usually around $500-$1000. After I bought them out they had more about 2 weeks later.

There are usually 2 different denominations available. $50 cards and $25 cards. The higher value ones are usually near the books/electronics and the lower value near the cashiers. You do get the discount on Disney GC. Not sure about how fast to pay them off and get more though.

Can you apply online ahead of time? Then you can at least have the account up and running. Might make it easier to get it paid and get more GCs.

Our store usually has a few inches worth but I've never bought a lot so haven't counted.

Unlike other credit cards, it had no option to add a second person to the account, so my DH and I have separate accounts. It's a pain to have to pay 2 bills every month but it might help with the credit limit if you're trying to buy lots of Disney gift cards. We just shop there a lot so we both got one, because the 5% is a good deal regardless of whether you're buying Disney gift cards or not.

I would buy them periodically if you can or pay in smaller amounts on your credit card. I purchased $1200 worth of disney gift cards and when I made the payment it took 2 months for my available credit to bounce back after paying it off. when I called and asked about it I was told that the system lags when you make such a large payment and next time break it into two or more payments for it to be processed faster. Also my particular Target can take upwards of 3 months to new stock of gift cards in.

I bought my store out a few months ago (around $1400 too). They still haven't restocked.

If you don't want the CC, try the Target debit card. You still get the savings but it comes directly out of your checking. Took about 3 minutes for me to sign up at the register. All I needed was a voided check and my drivers license.

And yes, the discount applies to the Disney Gift Cards.

If you use the red card to fill prescriptions, after 5 they will send u a coupon for an additional 5% off. I just used this to buy $2000 worth of Disney giftcards for my upcoming trip and it cost me $1800.

Thanks guys :) I was sort of hoping they'd have a faster turn around on payments but that's okay. We can always each get a card.

I would love to apply online but I'm in Canada so that's an issue and I'm pretty sure I have to do it in store. I may call them though.
