For the first time in years, target just denied the 5% rewards coupon off the Disney Gift cards. :( :( :(. Still got the 5% off for the red card, but this was the only reason I used the pharmacy where there is no drive thru. Anyone else suffer this injustice lately?

Yup, I am going back to Walgreen's for our pharmacy needs...open 24 hours, closer to home and has a drive-thru. The only time I used the extra 5% was when I would buy $300-$1000 in gift cards. The extra $15-$50 in savings was worth it to me. Now, I don't see myself ever spending over $100 on other items in a single day with the pharmacy rewards coupon so the extra $5 saved is not worth the hassle of dealing with the Target pharmacy.

I will still continue to shop at Target as long as the RedCard discount on Disney gift cards doesn't go away. With Wal-Mart moving in right down the street, Target will lose my business if that discount goes away.

"Injustice", really? I mean it's been crazy that they have allowed it for so long.

It's not a violation of anyone's rights that they stopped doing something that they were likely losing money on. That is what "injustice" is. Not Target changing so someone can't save 5% on a Disney gift card.

Yep, no longer works. No surprising really. It was a nice little perk while it lasted! I'm still happy to save the 5% with my RED card, although I expect that to change before long too.

:thumbsup2

Do they no longer give the 5% on all gift cards or just disney? I used to buy some fast food cards there with my target card.

To clarify, it's the pharmacy rewards discount that is now gone on the giftcards (though I think they are called Entertainment Cards at Target).

Stop blaming Target for giving you a great deal for a long time. I have heard that other retailers are going to stop giving perks on them as well.

I agree.

Target allowed it for a very long time and many of us benefited from their generosity. Some also took advantage of Target and felt entitled to discounts that were not being offered to them. I am not surprised at all that Target has taken this step to end the pharmacy rewards on gift cards and wonder if the RedCard discount will be next.

. My daughter works at Target and she no longer gets her discount on any gift card. She would get Subway gift cards and yesterday she checked and no more discount. Target did not tell their employees at her store.

Let me clarify...I will be switching back to Walgreen's simply because I will not be using the additional 5% from the Pharmacy Rewards enough to justify staying with Target's pharmacy. When I was able to save an additional $15-$50 on my gift card purchase, it was worth the hassle to use the Target pharmacy. Without the gift cards, I won't ever have a large enough purchase (using the pharmacy rewards) to justify the added hassle. The Walgreen's pharmacy is closer to my house and since I work 7a-7p, four days a week, it was very difficult to get to Target's pharmacy while it was open.

I'm not hostile or angry with Target. I agree, it was a great deal while it lasted, but they have every right to change or discontinue a program that is costing them money.

I had the RX card and went today to purchase my last group of giftcards for our trip in May. I have purchased almost $4k over the last year to pay off our cruise and money for our trip. I purchased $550 today and the manager let them give me a $27.50 coupon since the RX card didn't work. I won't be buying anymore. It then took the other 5% off with my redcard. So glad I don't need anymore.

I wonder if Target factored the offset of losses from those who may now leave the pharmacy. I have a large family and our perception bill is huge with many of the meds not having any generic equivalent. I did not buy a huge number of gift cards so I would be willing to bet any discount I enjoyed did not equal the profit on the drugs they will now lose when I start shopping at a more convenient pharmacy. Maybe the fact that socialized medicine is coming means lower profits which drove this decision....so its Obama's fault I can no longer afford Disney.

Please note my original antt-Target post was tongue in check and so is this one. This one in particular is just for fun. :)

It was great while it lasted and I'm bummed out that I just earned another 5% coupon that I won't be able to use for Disney GCs. It was good while it lasted.

I can't say that I didn't see it coming. The 20%-off coupon fiasco in December drew too much attention. Those whiners, complainers and "guests" who brow-beat cashiers and managers into applying the discount were too plentiful and too vocal. I'm just glad that I was able to grab $3300 in GCs a couple of weeks ago, using the previous coupon before the deal was killed.

Now, I have to keep my eyes open for different opportunities and be prepared to jump on them when they present themselves.

I feel the same. The quality of the pharmacy is not high enough to justify the extra 5% off card now, and I never was a big GC purchaser. I've had two bad experiences - one where I did an express refill and they didm't call the tell me they didn't have the medicine (drove 30 minutes just to get the rx filled on a crazy hectic day and was leaving to go out of the county the next day) and the last time I filled one (different location) they only put in 25 tablets of a medicine that cost over $250. Highly suspect for someone at the pharmacy skimming.

I don't blame them for discontinuing the benefit either. I did think the 20% off coupon problem would be the end of the GC loophole. I do think their pharmacy will lose some business - that would be interesting data to see.

I agree ! How would you like to be the Disney cast member taking 90 gift cards for payment !

I'm sill happy with my easy to use Disney Visa 2% w/ 6mo interest free for my ONE transaction! JMO !! I currently have $700 in rewards for my August trip ..... I use it for ALL my purchases and bills !

Just for clarity... does the RED card discount still work?

And yes, I was one of the people who 'brow beat' Target mangers into giving me a 20% discount at the holidays...and by brow beat, I mean-- I asked and they were completely 100% supportive. The manager was actually excited to sell me GC's and kept recommending rides and resorts....

Apparently, the REDCard discount still works.

By brow-beating, I wasn't referring to customers who asked for the discount and got it without difficulty. I'm talking about the people who ranted on Target's Facebook page, repeatedly called Target customer service about it (or sent angry emails), posted the names of managers who complied and their locations, and otherwise doggedly pushed to get a discount that they were not meant to get.

I don't know whether you were among that crowd or not but from your post, it doesn't sound like you were. Just a few random customers going into your local Target and asking for the discount would not have been a blip on the radar. An internet hoard of rabid deal-hunters harassing cashiers and managers at multiple stores across the country is a different story and was bound to raise a red flag.
