I had heard about Target being cheaper for dry goods stuff but it was never worth the trip for me to only get a few things. Well all that has changed now! Target now has frozen stuff, dairy, and one of them here even has produce. The prices are fantastic. Even cereal - the most ridiculously priced food- was super cheap there. Frozen veggies were a lot cheaper as well. They even take coupons and they give out catalinas. So if you haven't been there recently I highly suggest it. I am trying to get our grocery bill down and I know this will make a huge difference.

I wish we had a Super Target, they are fabulous. We get what we can at our regular Target, but they don't carry all groceries. They do have some great prices.

Check online, they always have store coupons and those can be combined with manufacturers coupons for an extra discount. I have also signed up to receive texted messages and about once every 2 weeks, they send me a message with a bar code and what items are available the next 2 week period, just take your cell to the check out with your items and they scan it for the amount off. I also get booklets in the mail every couple of months, sometimes it is coupons for their store brand items, sometimes it is just regular brand items, but every penny helps.

same here!:)

I price compare on our staples (peanut butter, cereal, frozen veggie burgers, salsa....) and find the best deals at Target. It is limited (no produce) because we don't have a super Target, but a smaller food section. Prices are better than Walmart and I much prefer Target!!!!:):wizard:

After I moved here last year I had to find something to replace my beloved Kroger.

Tried Albertson's. blech...like a Winn Dixie

Tried Publix. Like Kroger but with nothing on sale...ever.

Tried Super Target. Hallelujah!! :)

I have never heard anyone say Target had cheap groceries. I live in Texas and know I will spend at least 10% more in Target than any other grocery store. Why to I shop there then? It is super clean, wide aisles, never crowded crazy like Walmart and I don't have to park a mile away or back side of the parking lot.

We have at least 12 major supermarkets within a 5 mile drive of our house. Out of all of them Super Target has the worst prices. It is large, brightly lit and well laid out. We pass through it on the way to the Department Store section.

Wish that were the case here. Our Target is not a super store and over all the prices are outrageous and the dry goods well above HEB or Wal Mart prices. I can get Kraft Mac and Cheese for way less than $1 at either other store. At Target it is consistently over $1.20, just for an example. We also do not get great clearance prices, just mark downs.

Target has become our new store for shopping as well. They remodeled ours, so we have a full grocery store (although it isn't a super target). The prices are so much cheaper than the other grocery stores in the area. Just bought Kraft mac and cheese and they were .89 a box.

We switched to Super Target about three years ago. We love the low prices, the quality, and the ability to purchase organic meats! We won't shop anywhere else. I live in Texas, too. :thumbsup2

That's interesting you should say that. Target's pricing structure must be pretty reasonable, because I read the first few posts and thought "Huh?? Target, cheap??" I'm in Texas also, and we have two different Super Targets pretty close to us. I have tried them both several times, but am always way less than impressed with them. The selection itself is pretty good, but no better than my Super Walmart or even Kroger, and the prices were noticably, distinctly higher, even without my Kroger card savings. No more Target grocery shopping for me!

That's interesting about it being so expensive in Texas. I'm in NY and where we live there are no Super Walmarts or Krogers. I could not believe how cheap Target was. Even my dh couldn't believe it.

I have been in a SuperTarget (Birmingham, AL) and their prices were even less than at our regular Target, I stocked up on what would make it home in a 2.5 hour drive.

We have Publix (practically in our back yard) and I can find some decent specials there, but not always, love their BOGO's.
Winn Dixie, all of ours are dirty and expensive
Piggly Wiggly, sometimes they have good specials and I love their meat counter
Lewis Jones, small and expensive
Super Walmart, which is where I get most of my groceries and if not in the mood, I wil price match something from the Target ad.
A Fresh Market opened here this week, but I heard it is expensive, I haven't been there yet.

I miss being able to use our Commissary, they had the best prices anywhere.

Target is high here as well. which is very odd considering that Walmart and Aldi are all within a block of Target. Without a great sale, no way would I grocery shop at Target.

Target is high here also. I end up going to Meijer's, they end up doubling my coupons and I usually end up with a catalina for $8, $10 or $20 off of $100 grocery purchase. Sometimes $4 off a $20 purchase. They also have Super Saturday sales which are pretty good.

From Texas too and I don't find our Super Target's to be cheap either. Their brand, Archer Farms, has some good things but I normally shop at Walmart.

it's definitely by area of where you live. Our Target has groceries but it's WAY higher than our local grocery stores. I LOVE Target for everything else but the groceries are too high for my wallet!

Fresh food is no longer limited to SuperTarget stores -- Target is currently remodeling stores around the country to carry an expanded line of foods (such as packaged meats and produce) and a bigger selction of pre-packaged stuff.

I understand they did a "blitz" a short while back and converted every Target store in the Philadelphia area to this new format making Philly/South Jersey the first sales market in the U.S. to carry expanded grocery -- anyone from there care to comment??

In my local area, there are no SuperTargets (as the 3 "legacy" chains have a chokehold on the St. Louis market), but Target did recently remodel one of their old "Greatland" stores in the local area to fit this new format -- I'm sure there are more to come.

Our Target was recently remodeled and man I LOVE it!!!!!! Just shopped there yesterday, saved a bundle on groceries. :) We have everything at our Target, meat, produce, dairy, frozen, dry goods....it's great! In fact we bought mac & cheese, we bought Annie's shells and white cheddar for $1 a box (almost $2 at the grocery store) and Market Pantry brand for .42 cents a box....can't beat that!! :)

We just have a regular Target (Massachusetts) but the the prices are much better than the grocery stores and I just don't go to the Walmarts in the area as they are dirty and small.
