So, what is the discount here everyone uses? The credit or debit card gets - is it five percent off? And if I have a room only reservation, can I pay some with these cards before I get there or do I present about a thousand cards for them to enter manually upon arrival, because I just would rather not do that. If I'm not mistaken, I think someone said the gift cards don't go any higher than $50 increments?

If you have a Target Red Card, you can get a 5% discount on purchases of Disney Gift Cards. I've mostly seen only the $50 GC, but I have seen a $100 GC at Target a few times.

Yup 5% with the Target Red Card (credit or debit). And they have $100 Disney giftcards. I bought a $100 cards for my spending from Target and got $5 off of each. I also went on the disney giftcard website afterwards and input then in and had them all go on one card so I don't have a bunch of cards when I go and have to keep track of them all.

Thanks so much! And I had no idea there was even a website where you could do that. That will be fantastic.

It is very easy, just set up a log-in and register each card. You can merge all gift cards to one card up to $1,000. So much easier than carrying a bunch around and figuring out how much is left on each one.

Don't wait until you check in to apply your gift cards. Oftentimes they will charge your credit card on file before you arrive. You can have them reverse the charge and apply the GCs, but it is a PITA. I typically call about a week before we are to arrive and have them apply the GCs then. Make sure to keep your GCs in case you cancel your trip. The payment will be returned to the GCs -- the original form of payment.

Unless this has changed I don't believe this is accurate. For room only reservations you pay your first night's charge + tax when you reserve the room, then the balance when you check in. I have heard of people calling and sometimes getting a CM who will accept payment for a room only reservation in advance over the phone, only to have the payment reversed a few days later.

I have shown up a couple of times at check in with a fistful of $50 gift cards from Target to pay the balance on my reservation. The first time it was a new CM who didn't know how to apply gift cards. No problem she just called over a supervisor to show her how. Second time was no problem.

Then I stop down at the front desk every couple of days when my balance was getting close to the limit to pay it down. I misjudged once and the put the charge through. But it was what I had charged to my MB while there, not the cost of my room itself. They reversed the charge then used my gift cards. No problem.

I've only ever seen the $50 GCs at my Target. I just put a rubber band around them. And I use all of them like I would $50 bills. I only have to remember the balance on the one that still has a balance. And the front desk CMs gave me a post it to note the balance on that card.

You can use either the Red card debit or credit card and receive the 5% discount. Most of the cashiers don't know about it but the cash register knows.

I have made many trips with room only reservations and have always paid it in full before I arrived. It has never been an issue and was never reversed.

My statement is accurate. What has happened over the last few years is that the resort will post the balance due prior to your actually arriving at the resort. I have gotten notifications from my credit card company that a large transaction has posted while I'm on the DME bus to the resort. It's just a lot easier to have the GCs applied in advance. Like winterman, I often pay the balance before we arrive and have never had a problem paying in advance.

You can also apply your gift cards to your reservation balance online. I go to disneyworld.com (the full website) and log into MDE. Then go to "My Reservations and Tickets." Where it shows your remaining balance, click "Make a Payment." For the "Amount to Pay Today," enter the amount of your gift card. Then scroll down to "add a Disney Gift Card," click, and enter the gift card number. If you've entered everything correctly, it will then the display the amount of the card and allow you to apply the payment to your account, up to the remaining balance on the reservation.

I just applied a whole stack of cards to my account yesterday. Since I don't have a Target card, I buy GCs at Sam's Club at a 5% discount using a rewards credit card. The savings are worth it!

Whoops, I just realized that the discussion is about room only reservations, not packages. Not sure if the procedure is the same for those. FWIW, I have paid off room only in advance over the phone with no problems too. Good luck -- hope it works out for you!

I paid off our room only reservation for 2 rooms in June well before June with no problems of reversals. I used my DVA. I am also doing the same for our trip in December. I call in and pay on the balance of our room only reservation every month.

FYI; No payment option for RO reservations:( They had the option there for like 2 months and then it disappeared and has not been seen since.
We have been lucky enough to get to go to WDW many of times in the past 11 years and I think in that time my balance was charged to my CC once or twice before we actually checked in. I have found it is sooooooo much easier to use the disneygiftcard site to consolidate all our GCs. You can combine up to $1000 onto one of your GCs, I have just took my 16 ($50 & $100) gift cards and combined onto one of them. So this way when I call to make a payment on my balance I give them that 1 GC # and $1000 is posted towards my balance. I have already started combining GCs onto a second card for my final payment:banana: Like a PP mentioned, I have never had a payment reversed and I have been doing this for over the last 5 years (10+ trips).
