Target Discontinued Online Purchase of $100 DGCs?

Well, just to test this situation I placed an online order for one $50 Disney gift card and paid with Target gift cards - and it was cancelled 5 minutes later. I frequently order the cards and pay with gift cards - I ordered $500 within the last week or so with no problem. It certainly seems to be true that they have changed the policy based on what I'm seeing here and my attempt today. I suppose I'm surprised it took Target this long to make the change, but I'm still disappointed. Oh well!

You guys I'm so depressed. I did so good on this! End of an era I suppose.... got an extra $1100+ on my family's $10,000 payments, so as you can guess, I spent quite a lot of time on the raise/target/disney circle of life.

I used my Target Red Card to get 5% off.

The loophole that just closed involved buying Target gift cards at ~5% discount, and then turning around and using those with a Red Card to get another 5% off the actual Disney cards. Some people went even further with eBay, but I didn't venture into those waters....

I'm with you olookasquirrel! Over the last two years I've saved well over $3000 between paying for cruises, annual passes, etc, etc. It did become a bit of an obsession for me, so maybe while it's huge disappointment it will be healthier for some of us!:o

I was at Target today and bought another 50.00 Disney GC , used my Red card and got the 5% discount off the entire purchase including the gift card.

That isn't the part that changed. People were buying TARGET gift cards and then using those gift cards to buy DISNEY gift cards from Target.com. Now you can not use a GC to purchase another GC. No change has been made to receiving the 5% off for the Red Card, well at least not yet.

Yes, I know as I was one of the folks that got my Target e cards online at Cardpool at a discount, then went to Target.com and bought Disney GCs with my Target gift cards and Red card discount. Most recently as Wednesday when I got my most recent Target.com purchase. I wanted to see if the would still honor the red card discount at the physical store when I used my red card.
They did.

I just ordered a $50 DGC and used 3 $5 target gfs and my Target card. I got an order received and 1 min. later it was canceled. The order received had the 5% but not the $15.

This is what happened to me about, oh, seven times before I finally got the hint, lol. :(

I wonder if it still works on Southwest cards? Definitely can use the money there too :)

You can't use Target gift cards (that was cut off even earlier than Disney).

But I was able to get Red Card 5% off about a week ago on Southwest gift cards.

Blah. Well, at least I have a great Christmas fund going :D

...if what they want is at Target :D

This just stinks! I use my swagbucks to get Target cards and those Target cards to get Disney cards.

For you swagbucks folk out there.....What about using SB to get PAYPAL and that PAYPAL to purchase DISNEY cards thru Target?

I don't quite have enough SB to test it out yet.....

HHHMMMMM

Buying another stores gift cards with the store's gift card drives no revenue for the original store. In this case, it is Target. They sell a $100 gift card with the assumption of $100 in revenue. If you use that $100 GC to buy a Disney GC, they are only getting maybe $1 in revenue.

I have no issue with stores doing this. It is manipulation of a policy that was not policed previously. This was like people buying $1 coins from the US Mint on their credit card with free shipping. People would by $10,000 worth on their credit card, get the $10,000 in coins, deposit them in the bank, and pay off the credit card. They could do this 15-20x per month. $200,000 in cc points every month racks up ~$2,000 in reward money. Imagine that on a Disney Visa card. $24,000 annually in Disney Rewards without making a real purchase.

Love your positive attitude! :flower1:Wish I had looked at the board before buying another $250 Target GC! Yep, I'll be doing my Christmas shopping at Target this year apparently! :thanks:o_O

I'm just surprised they let you do this in the first place. I know at other stores the ONLY form of payment they accept for any gift card they sell is cash or debit card.

The difference (used to be) that Target doesn't consider Disney Gift Cards as "gift cards". They are deemed "entertainment cards". Like AMC gift cards.
