Target 9pm Thanksiving Night - How Bad Will It Be?

Ugh! I was thinking of going to target Thursday. I want things like pjs, towels, etc. there is also a vacuum I really want! I guess I'll have to suck it up and go thurs night because it will be gone Friday.

I keep seeing comments about "let the workers have time with their families" and think those people must never have worked retail over Christmas. Do you not realize that in order for a store to open at Midnight, they have to have workers in at 10pm or so? It takes a lot of time to get the money ready for the day, and to open the registers, and get everyone in place. Not to mention security watching the lines. They have to get there hours ahead of opening.

Having a law in place that a store can't open until Midnight doesn't keep people home with their families until Midnight. It is not much different than opening at 8 or 9 pm.

If the store opens at 8pm, then the workers have to be there by 6pm if they are required to come in early - which could totally interfere with people's holiday dinner. Which I think totally sucks. I work part-time in retail; we do everything we can to make sure our big sales are set and ready to go the night before. Tonight I'm scheduled until 11pm to sign everything since we are closed Thanksgiving (thankfully!!).

The stores opening so early this year is really bugging me. No doubt the "Black Friday" sales will start even earlier and completely ruin employees' holidays in a few years. And all for corporate profits. Blech. It also irks me because it's tempting people to leave their family dinners and go wait in line to get good deals. It's reducing the importance of holiday - which is to be thankful for what you have and to spend time with those you love. I'm all for Black Friday shopping - I start at 3am Friday - but I'm against any shopping on Thanksgiving Day itself.

Has anyone actually been able to find any of their deals live for red card members yet? The Red Card site is completely worthless.

I always go to Target on Black Friday but I have a feeling this year is going to be a bigger nightmare since Target will be doing the price matching. I am not sure if Target will do this at the register or at customer service.

It looks to me like there's only 20 items available, and none are that great of a deal. Unless I'm missing something...

I thought Target's won't match Black Friday ads?? :confused3

Maybe the employee I talked to was wrong. She said they would be doing price matching.

I wish they would price match! But, here's what I found on their website. (Second to last line for Black Friday)

Holiday Price Matching: Target prices and competitor printed ads
Well match the price if you buy a qualifying item at a Target store between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24 and find the identical item for less at Target, Target.com or in a competitors local printed ad. Simply bring in proof of the current lower price and well match that price at the Guest Service desk.

The original Target receipt must be brought in when requesting the price match by Dec. 24.
The item must be the identical item, brand name, size, weight, color, quantity and model number.
For matching Target.com, the retail price must be shown on the Target.com website and must be valid at the time the price match is requested. Target.com pricing must be validated by a Target team member.
For matching competitor ads, the retail price must be shown in the competitors advertisement and must be valid the day the price match is requested.
Competitor catalogs can be matched as long as the catalog displays a current date, retail price and meets all other competitor ad match qualifications.
Price matches for prices offered Nov. 22-24 by Target, Target.com or a competitor are excluded.
We reserve the right to verify a competitors advertised price and the availability of the item.

...Target tends to offer the best Black Friday experience (in comparison to Walmart), as PPs have said, the whole event is much better-organized with little of the Black Friday antics you'll be reading-about over the weekend.

However...

...not all Target stores are built/laid-out the same way! I strongly recommend visiting target.com on Thanksgiving Day to download the map of your local store, as many items in the ad will not be in their usual departments (they normally have "one-shot" cardboard displays for pajamas, etc. while TVs/other large items will be on pallets throughout the store).

Good Luck!

Price matches for prices offered Nov. 22-24 by Target, Target.com or a competitor are excluded.

Most stores offer this one-time exception to price-matching policies, because Black Friday/Thanksgiving Weekend is considered a promotional event (and the prices set for certain items are one-time "promotional" pricing driven to get customers in the stores).

I did find the Lego Black Pearl for $74, you have to enter your red card number at checkout, and then it discounts.
