Tonight I was at Target picking up a prescription. As I walk past the clearance end cap I always keep my eyes open. There was a giant sign that said "30% OFF or MORE!" in huge letters, along with "price as marked" in small type at the bottom .

So far so good, especially when I spy 4 boxes of Benedryl single dose spoons. These things are gold for an allergy mom, I keep them scattered everywhere (cars, diaper bag, almost every room in the house) just in case my ds has an anaphylactic reaction. So I look a little more closely at the price on the box and it's $5.49 down to $4.66. Seemed a little high so I price checked it on the machine. Then I sauntered over to CS with the two boxes I wanted to buy to tell them it wasn't 30% off. Here's where the fun began.

CS tells me that they are only 15% off and that the part of the sign that says "priced as marked" means they could be clearanced at any price including 15% off. I told her that didn't make any sense, it's not what the sign said, and I was going to go back and take a picture. As I'm back there, I see a stock boy and ask him to look...he agrees the sign says "30% OFF" and nothing more. So I asked for him to call a manager back. In the meantime, I overhear the front of the store CS girl on the radio asking him to check the price signs. Kind of humorous since I'm standing right there. I tell her over the radio it definitely says 30% off.

Manager shows up and hems and haws. Says things get moved around and it's all clearance stuff at different prices. I point out to him that there's another whole end cap 3 rows down where the sign says "15% OFF", but these 4 boxes were here where it says 30% off. He flips the 30% sign over so it now reads 15% and tells me I can have a price override.

New price for me: $3.86 x 2. Not bad.

Yeah, but it's always fun when you win. If time isn't of the essence, it's not that big of a deal.

Really, time elapsed was only about 3 minutes, while I was wasting time waiting for the rx to get filled. Thought the whole thing was rather humorous. :goodvibes And a dollar saved.....

I'm surprised they agreed to discount it more. Someone probably picked them up and decided they didn't want them and just set them back there. But hey you saved yourself a dollar.

You got a good deal but I would have bought all 4 after what you had to go through to get that price.

Sounds like someone put them back in the wrong place.

Not something to argue about, let alone gloat you got an extra dollar out of Target.

Now all you will see is signs that say "clearance, price as marked" without the %. I have never seen as a sign that says "% off or more" always "up to % off"

Possibly, but it seems unlikely that someone would pick up and move all four boxes.

Either way it's a win-win deal, Target moved two clearance items and you got an extra savings, good job OP!

I don't think it's unlikely at all. If there was something we use a lot of and I wanted them all if the price was right, i'd grab all 4 then head to the scanner. What's unlikely is that i'd mess with taking it all the way back to the 'correct' clearance end cap. I'd probably just set it back on the nearest one. I've never seen a clearance sign like the OP stated was at her store. The ones around here are either %off or UP TO %off. So I wouldn't hesitate to just put it on whatever one.

Well that's apparently not the case at her store.

These are the type of signs we have at our stores:

The whole "win" thing turns me off. I guess I missed where shopping is now a duel between customers and stores.

And like others, I can totally see where someone would have picked all 4 of them up (you did, OP), change their mind, and then put them in another sale bin, not realizing or maybe not caring that the discount was different.

Gotta love Google images...
Here's the sign I see most in the HBA, a general 'clearance' sign.

Here are 2 different ones on the same display, one up to % off, one % off

This is another up to % off one

Yes Google Images is great but damn girl nobody is disputing the signs are your store. You seemed skeptical that "XX% and off signs" exist so I posted an example. There are thousands of Target stores so there are going to be differences in the signs.

You quoted me in particular and showed me a pic of a sign. I never said the sign didn't exist, I followed your lead and posted pics of other signs. It's no big deal. Was just showing the variances
