I meant more like the rising costs of groceries and other essentials tho but I get it, you haven't thought about it all that much.

Even if you steal an activated iphone from a user, you're not likely to get even a whole day's use out of it before the owner gets online and remotely bricks it.

My company had to close several of its downtown Philly stores because of rampant theft and shoplifting, as well as other problems. One lasted less than a year.

That influencer is also hawking merchandise on her Instagram. Her mother is posting the link in the comments on stories about the lootings.

I have a feeling she’ll soon have new T-shirts to sell featuring her mugshot.

One article has her expressing remorse and regret about her involvement, but her actions since being bailed out speak otherwise.

i have not been in a target in ages. i'm curious-have they jumped on the private security bandwagon like our region's walmarts have? not sure if it's common at all walmarts but all the ones around here have a MASSIVE private security presence-vehicles driving round the parking lot, standing at exterior entrances/exits, several up by the registers. VERY uniformed/apparant.

You all realize prosecutors, well there boss the DA or AG are elected,
If you don’t like the job they are doing you have every right to tell them….

If they are not prosecuting thefts, tell them you’re not happy with their job performance ….

That only works if you can get a critical mass of voters to pay attention to down ballot races. Look at the DAs in the cities which are losing Targets, what were their priorities in their last campaign? I bet you it was not getting tough on shoplifting and seeking actual sentences for felons.
In Target's home market of Minneapolis, they and many of their top employees donated to the campaign of the current DA that refuses to charge or prosecute most crimes, those that are charged are given deals for their 10th, 15th or even 20th felony conviction that involves no prison time. Not a day goes by I don't see something on Twitter about police having to be called to Target's flagship store on Nicollet Mall. It's been a known issue for 30 years in Hennepin County that the prosecutors office and judiciary is very soft on crime, unless you're white and affluent.

I can speak to my area. I have been to a couple of the Target stores slated for closure. The one in San Francisco is this oddball small format store with a parking lot. I don't recall seeing anything other than normal "loss prevention" employees wearing Target specific uniforms. But in other stores I've seen contracted, armed security guards, including the one in Oakland that is slated to close.

The Oakland store is rather different. It's built into the subterranean section of an upscale apartment building and rather difficult to navigate. The area itself is rapidly gentrifying, but it's easily accessible by freeway, if one can find parking. The store itself is pretty small, but not a Target Express format.

The issue that Target is citing is organized theft rings and not necessarily random shoplifting.

And I can't necessarily make heads or tails of why one store or another gets tighter security or is considered a bigger threat for organized theft. The busiest Target I've seen is in Emeryville right on the border with Oakland, and I think part of the store is in Oakland. That's got access to freeways, although somewhat convoluted since it's several painful blocks to make an exit. But they always have armed security there. But there are other nearby stores like Berkeley Central and Albany where I don't think I've ever seen an armed guard. The store in Albany is right next to the freeway. These stores are all in Alameda County, so I don't get blaming the DA per se.

As a resident I get your sentiment. Whenever I'm in NJ where there are Walmarts, I'm loading up the trunk of the car with stuff from Walmart. (I also do a lot of my pantry shopping at Walmart online as the prices are sooo much cheaper than the supermarkets here.)

Yet, as someone who's watched local mom & pop businesses which are into their 3rd generation of ownership go under as they can no longer afford the super-inflated monthly leases here, and that's without Walmart here now, I agree with our city officials keeping the mega-giant corporation out. The reason Walmart can afford to give us cheap prices IS because they are a mega-giant and can afford the loss leaders for some items. Little mom & pop shops can't hope to compete and make a profit at the same time.

We had the hardest time during the worst of the pandemic keeping out neighborhood mom & pop shops in business during the never ending closures. And we had one of the most restrictive and longest Covid protocols in the nation, as THIS is where the pandemic began. (WA state and the west coast had the first cases in the U.S., and were somewhat able to keep it contained at first. But the spread unfortunately started here due to the density of the population mingling with each other on the subways & such. I'm about to start wearing masks again when I'm in the subways.)

But my feeling run along the lines of “try that in a small town” not quite the the point of the line from judge Dreed about expanding excursions for lessor crimes ….

And no I have never lived in a city nor would I ever want to….. and the 80s were over before I was a teen

However, I remember having a paper route to earn money before I was ten….

Getting my first real job at 13…

Working for every single thing I ever got in this world…

Raising a family and putting myself through college, at the same time, making sure my kids got to go to Disney once or twice a year…


But what I can tell you is I have a skill set that prepared me well for most things that life throws at me…..

And I had a good ride all the way…. On my own dime…

Sad you feel that way but in my experience everyone everywhere is exactly the same but that doesn't get people fired up so the PR firms that run the News create stories about who to hate and why... this makes me sad too.

I do not agree with giving criminals a pass at all, with anarchy everyone who can go flees and those who are stuck slide into tribal affiliations, nothing good about it.

Not directed at you, more of a general observation, it seems like the difference between being hated and loved (a person, a state, a country, a region, a food, a race, a religion a XYZ) is having the right agent or the right advertising campaign paying the right people the correct amount to get the best coverage. Such a farce to me that we are all split up and divided in this way, whoever it serves, it is not us everyday people.

I'm not so sure the people being blamed or taking responsibility are actually coordinating these things on their own. The whole enterprise seems sort of advanced to me, as in how is it the shout-outs aren't hitting the employees and police too? I have a tough time believing a bunch of ragtag looters can evade both law enforcement surveillance and the big stores security which must, at this point, be on the lookout for their names trending.
