Tappen Edo or Coral reef?

Personally, I would do Teppan Edo. We haven't eaten there yet, but will on our upcoming trip. It just looks like so much fun!!

I haven't eaten at Coral Reef. However, on our last trip my DW and I loved eating at Teppan Edo. Watching the chefs prepare and cook the food there in front of you was amazing. Also my wife is somewhat picky and while most of us requested mushrooms in our meals hers was made without. The chef will cook the meat to the level that you ask... honestly I can't say enough and I think this is where we will have her birthday dinner next year.

This is good to know. I have an ADR at Tappen Edo that I was thinking of changing. I will keep it now!

Last year I would have said Coral Reef hands DOWN but that changed on this last trip.

We ate at Tappen Edo our first night (9/19) and it was very good. Had a fun chef and found food and service a strong B+ to A

Went to Coral Reef on Sun (9/21) and after having the best steak ever back in Dec 07....was very disappointed this time around. The delisiously thick steak was now thin and tasteless and no more au gratain (sp?) potato
the service was also lacking....he was condesending since we were a party of ladies with our kids...just did not like his attitude...not sure if I will go back on the next trip. C-

Teppan Edo...the service at CR is horrible. It was so bad in '07 we left! Teppan Edo we just did last month and it was sooooo good! I have a bunch of pics from there in my trip report if you wanna take a look...

WE ate at CR in Sept. It was the best place we ate at. Service was great and the fish I ordered was the best I have ever had anywhere! We have never ate at Teppan Edo, so I can't help you there.

My family loved them both on our last trip. Now that they have taken the crab legs off of the Coral Reef menu, Teppan Edo wins our vote!

I am considering Teppan Edo for our next trip, it sounds like alot of fun. I ate at Coral Reef in 2006 and did not care for it. Probably won't go back there.

I say they are equal for me. I really liked the food at Teppan Edo but our service was lacking and portions are just right. I didn't feel stuffed when I left. Our Chef was entertaining but we did not get refills until she had left the grill for a few minutes.

coral Reef has an awesome atmosphere. And our service has always been great. I can't comment on the food so much because I have no saliva (due to radiation treatments to the throat) so all the food is tough and dry to me. My family says the food is great. I have to stick with veggies or salad @ CR.

We dined at Coral Reef early Sept and it was one of our best meals of the trip, food, atmosphere and service were awesome. I haven't eaten at Teppen, but hear it is similar to Benihana, which we can, and do, enjoy in NJ.
