Thinking about doing airbrushing. I've tried the Mystic Tan before and it didn't turn out so well. I'm beyond pale, so I'd like to have a bit of a glow for the trip.

Just wondering if anyone has done the airbrushing tan before?

haven't done it but not sure about putting those chemicals on your skin is the best thing to do. Why not just be who you are and use some sunscreen and just "tan" more naturally. You are probably way more sensitive to being "pale" than anyone else thinks you are. Women, we are so tough on ourselves! :rotfl2:
I am also a cancer survivor so, from my perspective it is not worth it. I use 15 (per the oncologist ) and get beautiful color (and some vitamin D too) that develops over time.

Good Luck and most of all, have a great trip! :wizard:

Well I am really pale too and so I prefer to use fake tan than to risk my skin. I have used the St Tropez tan before and it looked great, faded evenly and lasted a while.

One time I decided to get the airbrush tan (the one where you stand in the cubicle and get sprayed by the machine). The girl went through the five (i think) positions you have to stand in as it sprays you 5 times. It sprays from top to bottom and when it is done you switch positions. It was really weird getting done and I was terrified I was going to end up like Ross on Friends! (do you remember that episode!!!:rotfl:).

Anyway it looked OK but it faded really streaky and wore off badly where it rubbed eg my feet!! I had white feet where it came off in my socks! I couldn't wear sandals at all till it faded properly!

Needless to say I will never be spray tanned again. I will always get the beautician to apply it by hand.

use a self tanner or moisturizer.I have had skin cancer 2x and do not advocate any tanning.I also see horrid cases of melanoma at work( I am an oncology RN) I tried mystic but have had an allergy to mystic tan. I found the best thing to do in my case is use the jergens moisturizer with the tanner in it for about a month before I go

I got the airbrush tanning to my face and neck for my best friend's wedding. The things I did as Best man, lol! (That's ok though, because I made him have his eyebrows waxed). Actually, his parents did to, as did most of the wedding party. It was his dad's idea, because he was in a theater production of King Lear several weeks earlier and had it done for that.

It goes on quickly and easily and looks good when first done. There is a degree of "bleed out" the first day/night. Then it starts to turn slightly orange. Or, in the case of my friend's mom-really, really orange! She had a reaction to it and had too much of a glow in all the wedding photos. Not sure I'd want to risk that on my vacation!

Honestly, I can't see myself ever getting the airbrushing done again, and I'm pretty pale myself.

I have done mystic years ago and I get air brushed ever so often for vacations or special events. Airbrushing has come a long way in the last 2 years. Check out the local salons and see who has one of the new systems. No orange at all anymore. Or as my salon states - No oompa loompas ( wizard of oz)

I have been airbrushed several times. I loved it. I had an actual person airbrush me. You could either have your bathingsuit on or be as nude as you wanted to be. Find a good salon that knows what they are doing. When you call to book it they should give you instructions on what to do before and after you get sprayed in order to make the tan stay longer. I was advised to get it done in the evening and then not shower until the next morning. When I woke up I was VERY VERY tan, but after a shower it looked great. Good luck!

last summer I bought Aveeno moisturizer with glow to it, the year before I bought a Jergans product, just for pricing. The Aveeno was an end of season clearance.
But I was very happy with the natural looking glow, no pale legs and using it everday as a moisture too. My face did not need makeup, It certainly was not a heavy Fl tan, but real happy with it all summer. Even if I skipped a day.

My mom did the spray tanning (the kind where an actual person sprays you) for my wedding last year and it came out very natural looking. She did it once a couple months prior to the event to see if it would work and then she was able to tell the girl to spray more or go lighter in different areas. She did say is was a little weird but the results were nice for her.

Thanks for all the responses ladies - definitely something to consider!

I'm still a fake baker. I do tanning beds.....love 'em. Once April rolls around I start getting antsy to get back to tanning. I do use tanning lotions with SPF, so my tan is more gradual than people using nothing at all, but I still get brown as a berry...LOL

I used to do tanning beds before my vacations but the last two years i came to my senses and decided not too especially now im getting older. Plus took up too much time for me. Last year tried the Jergens glow stuff and it worked out great. I started about 1 week before my trip and applied every night. It was much much easier than going to the salon. This year though I may try the spray tan and see how that goes.

I worked in a tanning salon for almost five years and I still go to a tanning salon. I have never been huge into tanning even when I worked there, but I do like to go to have a healthy glow. I don't look like I just walked off a beach, but I have a good healthy color. For me I go about three days a week for a month and then I have a decent tan to go to disney and I don't burn there. Whatever you do remember to do it in moderation. :thumbsup2

This is what I do also...I go 3 days one week and 2 the next and so on for about a month. I tan really easily though as I have a American Indian in me so my skin always has a little color. But even so...this is really all you need to do to have that healthy glow. I was airbrushed once...never again! Looked great for about a day then the streaks came:mad:

PSA>> repeat after me... There is no such thing as a healthy tan. I just treated a 35 yr old woman for metastatic melanoma ( she only tanned in tanning beds and used spf )Any tan is skin damage and even olive skin tones are not immune to cancer. My whole life I tanned and did not burn ( love those Mediterranean skin tones) I have had 2 bouts of basal cell carcinoma.

I begin getting very small doses of sun about now (with sunscreen) and supplement with self tanner mixed with moisturizer. In about 3 weeks I have good color. My main "problem" is remembering how intense the Florida sun is vs my Illinois sun. I have to slather on the sunscreen several times a day while at WDW, but it's SO worth it. PLEASE take heed regarding the advise on skin cancer. I work in a hospital, and you can't believe how a small "spot" can quickly become life-threatening.

I used to tan all the time. In recent years I tried the Mystic tan (awful results) and now I use the Jergens moisturizer that tans you. They have one type for your face and then another for your body. Works great and gives a nice healthy glow to take the edge off any paleness you have. I like the Jergens best, probably because I'm too lazy to go over to the salon for the tanning beds and its cheaper (not to mention safer).

I can't believe people still use tanning beds. Really, it is just mind boggling to me.

Me too!!! I used to bake in a tanning bed when I was in my teens. I'm a redhead with a light skin tone but I tanned really well. Well I became wise in my early 20's and vowed to never lay in the sun or use a tanning bed again. You are just asking for cancer people!!

My mother is polar opposite of me. She tans constantly. Bought her own bed as soon as possible and is tan year round. Well, let me tell ya something...she is 56 and looks like she's 70. She is skinny but she has developed such thick wrinkled skin on her legs that I'm surprised she wears shorts. It reminds me of elephant skin.

If you want to look old, develop tons of freckles and age spots, and risk the chance of getting a deadly cancer then keep on tanning!

Sorry for the rant
