Tank top for man at Restaurants

We are going to the world this summer with my brother and sil who are first timer. My brother use to wear tank top during the summer. I know that he shaves, but I was wondering if this is permitted in the TS for Lunch and dinner ? (not signature restaurant) :confused3

I assume that it should be ok at CS, right ?

Here some restaurant we will visit this summer for dinner :

Park : Sci-Fi; LTT; Coral Reef; Tutto Italia; Le Cellier; 7 dragons; Tepan Edo; Mama Melrose F!; Rainforest Café AK; Akershus

Hotel : Ohanna, Grand Floridian café, Wispering canyon; Boma

As my DH never wear it, I was just wondering ...

seriously, no it is inappropriate for an adult to wear anything less than a T shirt. He will likely be stopped and that is so embarrassing. Let him know he should "pack a t shirt" for eating establishments. He can throw it in a bag or something.

Gross, gross and gross. Also Ewww. Did I say gross?? Why would any man want to wear a tank top anywhere except maybe the beach. Just looks awful.

I don't have any tank tops but are normal t-shirts without collars allowed in nice restaurants?

I don't think it's that big of a deal. There is a dress code for signature restaurants that should be followed. I have see some guys that look okay in tank tops and if they are comfortable then :confused3 I have cetainly seen alot worse in restaurants :rotfl:

the night before you leave, go through his stuff and replace all his tank tops w/ normal t shirts. everyone wins.

LOL at the hairy nipples. I find it very sad people even have to ask if it's acceptable. I was at a chinese buffet the other day, and I know you see it all there, but the large and very hairy man in the white wife beater undershirt did take me by surprise, I admit. Especially as it was in the middle of a snow storm.

Just tell him that tuxedo's are required at all restaurants, but he can be a rebel and buck the system by wearing one of these shirts :lmao::

Thats a difficult conversation to have with somone- good luck. I also agree that it would be very distasteful for a male to go to even casual sit down dinners in a tank top. A tshirt is fine except at Le Cellier- that is becoming a signature restaurant in March (hopefully you realized its 2TS credits if you are on the dining plan since you said you didn't have any signature places.) I agree with PPs- if he HAS to wear the tank top in the parks, he can throw something over it before dinner.

Just to note that t-shirts are acceptable at ALL Disney restaurants (Signatures included) as long as they have no "offensive" wording or pictures.

TO add: Not at V&A of course.

I am reminded of our last meal at AP. There was a sweet little couple at a table across from us. Bless their hearts - had been at the parks all day and were full on in Disney t-shirts, socks/sandals, fanny packs, lanyards, and jorts - not cut offs - just your absolute typical Disney tourist. Total package!

We don't dress up, per se, but we wear something you'd find appropriate for a casual day at work when we go to AP. They couple certainly did NOTHING wrong and didn't take away from our experience in anyway, BUT they did stick out.

Absolutley nothing wrong with that at all - I've seen that at CG, AP, Jiko and a number of other signatures - NOTHING wrong with it, and reasonable since people don't always go back to their room or want to pack extra clothes. It can stick out though as the signature restaurants are often places that Disney execs use for business and locals use for nice dining.

Regular table service just runs the gambit. A hair guy in a wifebeater at WCC probably wouldn't phase me as the whole experience is so unpleasant for me, if he was across from me at Kona or Maya Grill - he would stand out. Inside a themepark - well what can you do?

my thanks for all your replies.

honestly, I was guessing that wearing a tank top would be unconvenient, but now I am sure.

Now the more difficult part : having a discussion with my brother... he is the kind of man who do not understant why he should do something he does't want to during the vacation...:headache:

Tank tops aren't the most advisable under the summer Orlando sun. Regardless of the sunscreen diligence, he's likely to get cooked on the upward facing parts of his shoulders.

Having a loose fitting button down shirt (I buy mine at Old Navy - super cheap) over the tank top will provide him added comfort in the sun and will be cooler both in physical experience and physical appearance.

I was eating in a restaurant one time (not at WDW) and out of the corner of my eye I saw this middle aged couple. The woman's back was to me but the man was facing me. He had a very hairy chest and was wearing a tank top that was too large for him. How do I know it was too large? HIS NIPPLES WERE SHOWING!! HIS LARGE HAIRY NIPPLES!! I lost my appetite right then & there.

Before this dinner show, my DH had been known to wear tank tops during the summer. The ONLY time he wears them now is at the gym, not even to the beach.

MEN - there is a reason your momma made you put on a shirt before you went to the dinner table!! A tank top is just an undershirt that some parts of society has labeled acceptable!

omg omg omg....I totally just threw up in my mouth

I cannot even come to laughing about this as the simple thought just repulses me :scared1:

Personal taste aside, tank tops are allowed at all but the Signature restaurants. I do agree though that he may want a button down shirt he can just toss on, as they do tend to turn the air conditioning on to the freeze setting.

As far as wandering around the parks goes, he is fine wearing them. Disney is not a fashion runway. I have better things on my mind that what someone else chooses to wear. As long as all the proper bits are covered.

It was the year of my first visit to WDW, got thorougly cooked on Miami Beach during spring break. Skin turned thick and leathery and then peeled leaving blotches of thick brown and tender pink.

Wearing any kind of shirt was very painful, but I managed to pull on something when going into restaurants. I forgot what I wore into the Magic Kingdom that time.

Would it have been better if he had shaved off all the hair?

Yes, that is bad, but seeing a woman's nipples at WDW is also scary, you would think some people would know a bra is a good idea..

I agree.

I don't think it's a big deal. Assuming he wears a tank top that is the appropriate size (meaning so his nipples aren't sticking out - LOL) it should be fine. It IS a vacation after all, and Florida is HOT in the summer. Women walk around in skimpy tight shirts and SHORT shorts that some of them have no business wearing... so why should a man not be allowed to wear a tank top. I would recommend sunscreen - for any exposed parts, for everyone, tank tops or not. ;)

Hey, speak for yourself. :rotfl2:

J/K..... as much as I may enjoy this (depending on the person) I do agree with you. ;)

he is gonna wear pants or shorts right?

OMG! I so needed to laugh this morning, and this thread is hilariious! In all seriousness, and as someone else said, personal taste aside, your brother shouldn't feel uncomfortable being comfortable on vacation. While a wifebeater may not be the most tasteful choice (its not what I'd choose for my hubby or boys), its not indecent. Kinda gross (depending on the person), but not indecent. If he's ok with slipping on a button up over it or wearing a t-shirt instead, ok. If not, I think the fashion police will back off.
