We are looking for interesting counter service places In Epcot. Any opinions on Tangeriene cafe? What exactly is shwarma? Anyone have any pictures?

First of all welcome to the DIS!!! :)

The Tangierine Cafe is our favorite CS in all of Disney. :thumbsup2

Definition of shawarma: "A shawarma is a Middle Eastern Arabic-style sandwich usually composed of shaved lamb, goat, chicken, turkey, beef, or a mixture of meats. Shawarma is a popular dish and fast-food staple across the Middle East. It is similar to the gyros of Greece. The classic shawarma combination is pita bread, hummus, tomato & cucumber, and of course the shawarma. The additional toppings include tahini and amba."

Sorry no pics.

That sounds so yummy! My husband and I thought maybe we'd share the platter and then maybe get something else at another Epcot CS also. Is it big enough to share?

Very yummy!! I could have shared my platter with my DS16, but not my DH! :rotfl:

But if you are going to get something else at another CS, then definitely!
(When we were there they also had the best Baklava so you might want to save room for that too!)

Here's a pic of the platter we had last Sept. It was the combination one. It was just okay. Now the fresh strawberry slushie was quite good ;)

oh yeah - we loved this place! We got a shwarma platter (chicken & lamb) and a lamb wrap and we just shared everything. Similar to a gyro you might get at a greek place. The chicken was spiced similar to the lamb - very good, but I liked the lamb so much that next time I would get all lamb.

Oh - get the baklava! (and don't misplace your to-go box of baklava like I did :scared: )

We would definitely do this place again.

I had never tried lamb before, but it ended up being my absolute favorite thing on the platter! Like you, next time I will get only the lamb, no chicken.

Maybe I should have tried the shwarma... I got the falafel sandwich the last time I was there. I love:cloud9: falafel! But it was just okay there. The couscous was just okay as well...

I was less than impressed with this place, had the combination plate (chicken/lamb). If you have never had any of this before you probably would be satisfied. If you are familiar with this type of food you will probably be disappointed.

the meat was mediocre at best, stay away from the chicken, that was the worst thing on the plate. The hummus and couscous were OK, the tabbouleh (the greens and tomatoes dish) was pretty good, the bread was so-so. The Baklava is good, but nothing special.

We try to eat here every time we go to WDW. The lamb is better than the chicken. I also like it much better than their sit down restaurant Marrakesh.

This is my DH's favorite CS restaurant and is a must every trip.

slimplaw: I agree, we've had much better luck here than at the TS restaurant, Marrakesh.

TC is our favorite CS place in all of WDW, the food there is incredible

This is one of our faves. When we have newbies with us we take them there and they are always surprised at how great it is. We love the vegetarian platter with all the salads. Soooo good! This is a great choice.
