Does anyone own this lens? What is your opinion? For the price(less than $120) it seems like a good deal. Most reviewers on Amazon.com like it. I am looking to branch out from my kit lens, but do not have the $ to spend on something really expensive. Thanks.:)

First, what is your kit lens?
As far as that lens, I have the comparible lens for Nikon, 70-300G, and I think that I would rather have one of the "Real"70-300 with VR.
The mount most likely will be plastic, The optics are probably not as nice as a more expensive lens, but it will be a very usable lens, you may only notice it's problems when at the extreme end (300mm) and when the light is not quite as bright as you would like it.
"Investing" in the glass is one of the best choices that you can make.

I have the Tamron 75-300mm lens for my Rebel XTi. It is a great lens, and takes some nice, crisp shots. For the money, it cannot be beat. One thing I really like about the Tamron lenses is that they come with lens hoods. I wish Canon did that!

how expensive do you want to go? the only thing i have read about these is they are really best around f8-11 ( ok some say only good at all at f8-11 but they could be exaggerating lol) so unless you only take photos in broad daylight you are going to be pretty limited. you could get a canon 70-200 f4 L or canon 70-300 Is for around $500-600( they may have rebates, not sureabout the amount) if that is to much i would see if i could find one used. if you do buy the tamron,go to a local store and take your body so you can try it out first.

the thing is anytime i have settled for cheap lenses i wish i had the money still in my pocket when it doesn't do what i want it to.
