We are flying into Tampa airport Friday and arriving very late so we've booked a hotel by the airport. We'll drive over to WDW on Saturday morning. Is there a better time of day to make that drive to avoid any traffic? I'm hoping that since it's a Saturday there won't be rush hour traffic.

There won't be any problem with traffic on Saturday so don't worry about it. Just get up when you wake and head out. It should take about 75 minutes to get to WDW.

You should be fine on a Saturday, the earlier in the day the better. The drive should be around an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes as you'll drive about 5 miles on I-275 before getting on I-4 where the World Drive exit for Disney is 62 so figure about a 70 mile trip.

I was glad to see this post as I can get tickets into TPA for about $50 cheaper/person from CAK - 254 w/tax. I think that's as cheap as I will see, so I should probably snag them. We are staying Sat to Sat as well.

Ok...just checked AirTran again out of CAK:

to MCO = for 3 $961.20

to TPA = for 3 $778.20

Nearly 200 bucks!

Don't know if I should wait to see what SW has out of Columbus. Columbus is a bit farther from us than Tampa is from Disney...decisions, decisions....:headache::headache:

I think the drive is short enough that you should not stay in Tampa the night you arrive. To me it is a bigger hassle to check in to two hotels than to drive on over to WDW. I look at it this way, the drive is 75 minutes and then you can check in and sleep in .... but it will probably take you that much time or more to check in and out of your Tampa hotel and mess with packing and unpacking. JMOFWIW.
