ALOHA!
My name is Tammy, my DH (Rob) and I are planning our vow renewal for August 2009 on our 5 year wedding anniversary (the 14th to be exact) we hope to get the date that we first said our "I do's".
I know that some people might think it is silly to have a vow renewal so soon into our marriage, but since we did not have our dream wedding the first time we did not want to have to wait. My hubby is just as excited about it as me about our vow renewal! (he actually had a wedding dress dream last night, and has been looking at these boards with me over the past few days!) We have been through a lot in our short time being married, from our move to Hawaii, to numerous deployments to the sand box (which we are still unfortunately enduring). We thought that we owed it to ourselves to have the wedding we wanted to begin with. That's why we chose Disney, and our 5 year wedding anniversary!
* Some background info on us *
I am 24 years old and my hubby is 26 years old. Together we have lived in Maryland and currently live in the beautiful state of Hawaii on the island of Oahu. I am originally from New Jersey. Rob is originally from Texas. I am a full time college student at the University of Hawaii, pressuring a BS in Elementary Education with a dual licence in Elementary Education and Special Education. My wonderful hubby is in the United States Navy (I am a very proud Navy wife!) We do not have any children. We have 1 fur baby, a yorkie named Koa (means warrior in Hawaiian) that we love to spoil!
Together we have visited Disney World for our 2 year wedding anniversary in August 2006, and Disneyland in October 2007 when Rob returned home from a deployment. We are planning a trip to Disney World this coming December (that is, if the Navy does not have other plans for my hubby). Rob goes on frequent deployments, and we have a hard time planning around the Navy's ever changing plans.
* Proposal & Wedding *
On Valentines Day 2004, Rob had duty but he only have to go check in real quick and then he could come home, but he had to get dressed in his working blues (my favorite uniform) so I didn't think anything of it. When he came home (only about 30 minutes later) he came into our then bedroom, and handed me a Valentines day card, I opened it and read it. He wrote in it "Koa has something for you too", I looked down and he had put the ring on his collar. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him (I'm not exactly sure what he said word for word, all I know is that I said "YES!!!") Rob later told me that he did not have to go into work to check in (he could have just called) but he just used it as an excuse to get dressed in my favorite uniform.
Rob and I were married on August 14th 2004, in Fort Meade, Maryland. We had a Christian ceremony at the base chapel, and our reception at a local country club. Our families came in from New Jersey and Texas to see us get married. Our wedding was taken over as soon as they all arrived, the problem was no one helped us plan our wedding in the months leading up to it, but once they arrived they changed things that made us upset, our center pieces, the rehearsal dinner location (after they showed up once the rehearsal was over!), tied balloons to our chairs at our reception, and caused more stress than either of us needed. All in all it I was happy because the ceremony was wonderful, and that was all that really mattered to us, because all I wanted was to be married to one another, the rest was just details.
* Plans so far *
We know for sure that we want to have our VR in the WP, due to the temperature in August. Only a few close friends and family members will be attending (possibly 10) so we are still at a loss for a dinner/reception location. We weighted both options for the wishes and escape packages, we figured we would end up spending just as much (with everything we want) on the escape up-grades so we decided to go with the wishes package. I spoke with Heidi yesterday, she said that she would send out some information to look over and that she would include a list of vendors.
I have so many questions, I do not even know where to begin! Thankfully we have lots of time to get everything together.
* Planning problems *
We are very limited on wedding resources out here. Hawaii does not have many bridal salons (I know of 3, and they only carry select designers) Thankfully one salon carries Private Label G (which I LOVE!) No David's Bridal and for you Target shoppers... the closest one is in California! (I think the lack of Target is the number 1 Military wife complaint on this island! ha!) We also have no Victoria's Secret. I loved shopping at Michael's but there is none to be found here on the island. The list of stores that we do not have could go on for pages! For now I will have to make due with what we have here and online shopping. We are planning a trip out to Los Angeles sometime before the VR to do some shopping, as well as the trip to Disney World.
That is all for now! I hope if you got this far you were not bored to tears!
I hope to update with some more info as soon as we make more decisions!
One more thing for future postings, I am 6 hours behind the east coast!
