well

my lovely wife has seen fit to pick up a rather nasty flu 2 days ago
within a day after me not having a cold or flu for what feels like years i got it as well :lmao:

so off to the DR we go and get ourselves some antibiotics and tamiflu

anyone have any experience with tamiflu ? ive never taken it before
the dr said he can prescribe it but it isnt cheap ($50 for 10 tablets) i said $50 is fine if it means i can shake this evil thing a few days sooner

last night was like a nightmare, i was panting (think the chick that turns into a dog on ghostbusters, that kind of panting, drooling from the side of your mouth panting) weasing, my wife thought i was snoring but i wasnt, it was an uncontrolable wease, no sleep, or very little

so i guess if we had to get the flu its best that we do it now :confused3

we have some extra tamiflu in case the kids develop symtoms, we dont wish to visit the dr in usa if we can avoid it (its not cheap yeh ?)

fun fun fun :dance3:

Actually my daughter said to me yesterday - best to pick up a bug now - keep your immune system on its toes !!

But we have two weeks, not two days !! :scared1:

Tamiflu is one of two antibiotics on the market that is still active against existing bird flu strains. The doctors have stopped prescribing it as "standard" so that if there is a mass outbreak of bird flu, it will be one of the two antibiotics used to fight it.

You'll find that most of the governments will have stock piled Tamiflu from about 4 years ago when bird flu was a real threat.

Because they are limiting prescription of Tamiflu, it may actually fight your bacteria faster as it is likely that the bacteria has not become resistent to it (yet).

I have taken Tami Flu on 2 occasions one when I was that sick that I couldnt even get out of bed to go to the loo and ended up in hospital and the other when I just had the flu really bad..

Both times it worked faster than the times i didnt have it and i was back on my feet a day or so after taking it.
Even though its expensive it seems to work rather well. or Has in both my cases.

Hope this helps
Lauren

Just wanted to clarify that Tamiflu is not an antibiotic- it's an antiviral. Influenza is a virus, so an antibiotic is going to do nothing to treat the flu itself. Some doctors prescribe an antibiotic just to ward off a possible secondary bacterial infection, but it's not going to do anything for the flu just like it wouldn't for the common cold.
